When we moved our house I was overwhelmed by the blank slate of our yard and what it could become- I needed a plan. Krissy was recommend to us and I'm so glad we went for it and couldn't be happier with the results. Kissy really listened to what we liked and what kind of spaces we wanted in our yard- Krissy turned our wants into a wonderful design far better than I could have imagined. We have a low maintenance front yard filled with native plants, a dedicated garden area, an entertaining space, and designated kids area as well as low water grass area. i love how the plants she chose flow from one area to the next- different areas all make sense and seem connected. Krissy was very easy and fun to work with and respected our budget and the fact that we wanted to be involved in the process. I recommend her to my friends- she is so worth it!
Kristien helped us transform our backyard in inner NE Portland, I would happily recommend her. Our yard was a blank, ugly, slate, with overrun weedy grass, a worn out concrete pad in the wrong place, and some random plantings. She listened to us well during our consult, incorporating elements we requested like a stone patio, a smaller patch of "lawn", raised beds, and areas for cane and blueberries. She also added elements and plants we love but wouldn't have known to ask for. She added a rain garden, which is now one of my favorite aspects of the yard (for our toddlers, too!), and our basement hasn't leaked since. She suggested taking down a couple of fruit trees along the side of our house, as they weren't thriving and didn't get enough sun. It was hard to cut down trees, but she was right. We now have 3 Katsuras that allow for much more plantings underneath, and will grow into delicate, lovely trees. Overall, her design was similar to sketches we had done in our planning stages, but with small touches we wouldn't have thought of. And, of course, she was expert in choosing plants that are interesting but don't need a lot of maintenance or irrigation, crucial in our lives right now with small children. It would have taken us years to do what she planned in 2 weeks. It is also worth noting that our twins were 1.5 years old when we did our backyard, and Kristien was nothing but gracious and thoughtful despite our half-attention during most meetings. Her bid was more affordable and appropriate (for the scope of the project) than others we received, and her work was professional and on-time. She is approachable, but also a brain, using plants that are well-researched and proven to succeed in certain environments. I highly recommend Fusion Landscape Design.
This was one of the most amazing and magical transformations of an outdoor space I have ever seen, and Krissy Forness of Fusion Designs is not only professional, knowledgeable, and efficient, but she is also intuitive, supportive and gifted with incredible vision. We wanted a garden that we could BE in , not necessarily one that we would have to WORK in. We wanted the front entry of our home to feel like you were entering a tranquil zone, a space where fragrance and color and form all came together and made the visitor (or the resident!) feel like they were traversing between worlds. We both work at home, and so having a space that is tranquil and visible from the front porch (aka home office int he warmer months!) was crucial. She was expert at plant choice on so many levels; she asked us how we felt, how we wanted to garden to feel, not just the simple questions about colors and plant likes and dislikes. She really climbed into our consciousness about feeling, and created a beautiful, functional, transformative space for us that really worked with all the limitations of the yard we currently had. We had a roof-drainage problem, and needed a solution. What happened? A perfectly positioned bio-swale and rain garden to capture the runoff. We had a diseased tree, and she removed that and replaced it with one that was much more suited for the space with perfect results. We both hate things that are pokey and itchy, and that was an easy fix, replaced with native grasses with soft, lovely textures. We also dislike watering, and thus the entire garden is full of amazing textures and colors that, once established, required nothing but our admiration. She has professional relationships with several wonderful landscape technologists for installation and preparation, in the realm of stone placement, heavy machinery work, grading, and more, and all these subs were professional, timely and frankly great people to work with. They gave excellent suggestions, many of which we implemented with terrific results. The job came in at exactly the bid we were given, and we couldn't be more delighted with the results, the interactions, and the ongoing support we have received from her company. I could go on an on about this experience, but suffice it to say that two years later, we hired Fusion Landscape Design again to do our entire back garden as well, and are presently installing that beautiful design plan as well in time for our summer wedding in the backyard. I recommend Fusion Design without reservation for perfect results and the very best in customer care; Krissy and her team are deeply passionate about both.
Kristien was professional, adaptable, and easy to work with. She had great ideas and loved to incorporate our needs and desires into our backyard plan. I would recommend her to anyone.
We hired Fusion Landscape Design first for our front yard and then were so pleased, we hired again for a complete overhaul of the backyard. The main purpose of the front yard design was to move water away from the foundation of the house. Fusion designed a rain garden, with two bioswales and native plants to beautiful effect. The backyard was a disaster until Fusion did a complete overhaul. Its hard to imagine how uninviting the backyard once was compared to how spectacular and usable it is now. The backyard is now the focus of all summer and fall entertaining for us. Pizza oven, fire pit seating area, cedar soaking tub area and even a chicken run and coop. Its hard to describe how the backyard now has flow and simply sings the moment you step out the back door. On top of all the beauty created, the owner was a dream to work with. I can't recommend her enough.
