About Us
Grateful Beds grew out of a mutual passion for the beauty of a well imagined garden, backed by the ebb and flow of the Minnesota seasons. It was something beyond mere coincidence when Cory Barton and Libby Rahn met in 2012 bringing Cory’s love of creating original, exceptional garden design, together with Libby’s unbridled energy and passion for working in the earth, to create gardens with a little something extra.
In 2017 Cory took over from their wonderful beginnings and continues designing exceptional custom garden today.

Corey and her team are top notch!!! They are friendly professionals who we would recommend to anyone and they truly love their craft! They will work with you to meet the vision of exactly what you need. In addition to overall cleanup/weeding and mulch in our front and backyard, they did an incredible job creating a custom corner landscape project in our front yard where some tree roots were coming up and now it looks wonderful!

Cory and Libby of Grateful Beds are a talented and creative team committed to complete satisfaction of their clients. They are knowledgeable, hard-working, reliable -- and fun! -- with a definite "can do" attitude. Friends and strangers are continuously asking, "Who did your landscaping? What are those plants?". A quality job!

Cory, Libby and their friendly crew were very fun to work with, and they designed a lovely plan for a new garden area! They are consistent in their work and the final product is gorgeous!

Working with Cory and Libby was such fun. I had a few ideas of what I wanted and they took it from there. They seemed in tune with my wishes for a garden that was low maintenance, informal, and lovely to look at from our front reading room.
I would heartily recommend them to anyone who is willing to work creatively and collaboratively with a team that isn't limited to a few standards landscape designs.

We lost one of the oldest birch trees in the neighborhood in our front yard last year. That side of our yard was anchored by the tree and very little else grew there because of poor drainage. Corey and Libby suggested a rain garden, anchored by a new and quite handsome birch. They added drainage and a stone walking path as well. I really appreciated them blending the plantings to my style in the rest of the gardens, and they provide gorgeous pops of color, contrast and foliage texture. The rain basin in the garden has been tested regularly this year with the frequent rainfall we've experienced. You will be hard pressed to find such unique design and an eye for interest from another landscaping/garden designer in the area. I highly recommend Grateful Beds.

This spring we bought our first home and this summer and fall we worked with Cory and Libby to transform our property into an outdoor oasis. The previous home owners had done considerable and unique work on half of the front yard and much of the backyard, leaving half of our front yard a blank slate of dirt. We wanted to match the unique style and environmentally friendly landscaping that the previous owners had done. We sought out other landscapers... but their plans were generic and did not complement what had already been implemented. We didn't know quite what we wanted, but we knew what we didn't want. We also knew that we had some fairly unique considerations, such as a pond, two rain gardens, an aversion to turf, and a desire for season long color using bee friendly plants. Cory and Libby visited our home and asked questions about how we wanted to use the space and maintain it, as well as our style, to help them develop a beautiful plan. They have patiently answered our many questions about maintenance and care and accommodated our desire to take an active role in carrying out the projects. They were also conscious to work within our budget. We are thrilled with our yard and receive daily (no kidding!) compliments from neighbors and strangers alike.

We have a small front yard which we landscaped entirely several years ago (no grass, just plants & rocks). Since we're pruners more than planters, we needed help with freshening the space (i.e. thinning spots that had become overgrown, replacing what had died, adding some renewed interest). Grateful Beds did a wonderful job not only complimenting what was there but bringing the space to an entirely new level with new plants that brought much more diversity, a better arrangement and more variety in color. It's absolutely lovely.
We were so pleased with what they did for us that we had them do the same to the backyard. The standout here was the Japanese water garden they created to manage the flow of rainwater (we have a problem with runoff from the driveway that slopes downward). The garden not only works but it's great to look at.
Grateful Beds also really cares about what they're doing. While working in the backyard replacing a Japanese Maple that didn't make it through the winter, they found big chunks of cement buried in the ground which was what actually killed the tree. Our previous landscaper probably discovered them during the initial planting but neither notified us nor removed them. Cory & Libby dug and dug and then muscled them out before planting the new tree which we so appreciated.
I really recommend Grateful Beds. They don't just make gardens but beautiful living spaces that are both wonderful to look at and spend time in.

Grateful Beds has done two jobs for me; 1) was a rather major retaining wall that runs along a long driveway. I tried for years to unsuccessfully landscape this long linear area. Grateful Beds came up with an idea for a retaining wall that had an inset softscape area in addition to the wall. It is gorgeous. I can't believe I waited so long to do something. The company designed, presented and built. The project was a bit tricky and I was amazed at the detail orientation and perfection of this group. Amazingly beautiful esthetic retaining wall.
The second project was reshaping a few areas in my boring urban back yard. Grateful Beds created three areas of soft mounding beautifully planted and landscaped. Again the work is thoughtfully designed, and beautifully executed. I am so happy.
If I could I would put this company in my annual landscaping budget.

I hired Grateful Beds to redo a small patio area in the front of our home which my husband and I had originally attempted to do. They came in and made great suggestions without going overboard. They did a fabulous job recreating exactly what I wanted...actually better. I liked their work so much that I asked if they could do more with the areas bordering our home and some trees with the same block. Also an excellent job done. I am now making plans to hopefully have them back this Spring/summer for some more "tweaking" I would like to have done with our landscape. Both Cory and Libby are very professional, but also friendly and fun. They work well together. I highly recommend them to anyone who it looking for outdoor gardening or landscape work.

We hired Grateful Bed based on a fabulous referral from an avid gardener. First, they listened very carefully to the needs of our family, how we lived, and what we liked/didn't like. They then came up with a plan and worked with us on the budget. The project emerged and changed scope a bit as we worked together and we are very pleased with the final result. We look forward to using them again and referring them to friends.
