H2 XERO Landscape Design

Tina is an excellent choice if you are looking for a unique water wise garden. I own a large property and this project was one of the last parts of the yard to be upgraded. It was a very large, complex project. Tina is very detail oriented, she found some very interesting and unique plants and she put them together in wonderful combinations. She insisted they be planted correctly and as a result they have thrived in their location. She also pays attention to getting plants that attracted beneficial insects. I have a Monarch Butterfly nursery in my yard now.

I am so impressed with Tina's knowledge of plants and her ability to deliver on my front yard project design, which ended up so much more beautiful than I'd ever imagined. I told her I wanted a native low-water front yard design that looked "like a meadow" and included blues, purples, and orange-colored flowers (to cut and enjoy inside). Her design included four raised berms - to add height at the front and sides of the property and to provide privacy (so I can sit on my porch without being in full view of everyone walking down the sidewalk). The berms also add an interesting vertical dimension to my yard's design, allowing me to see more plants from my porch vantage point, and providing my new plants with the sandy loam soil they need to thrive. She also designed (and helped supervise the installation of) my new drip irrigation system. I absolutely LOVE my front yard now! - I even like working out there alongside the bees and butterflies, as I trim and deadhead the delicious smelling natives she included in my design, which provide an unending year-round supply of cut flowers for my vases inside. I have received SO MANY COMPLIMENTS from my neighbors, who've seen my original boring dead grass surrounding a silly palm tree transform into a unique, lush colorful panorama, as my yard has matured over the year or so that it's been in place. I wish I hadn't waited so long to get this project designed, installed and now growing, blooming, and thriving!

I met Tina from H2 XERO through our landscaper, who hired her to do our plant design. Within minutes of meeting her, I felt very comfortable and confident that our yard would be exactly what we wanted. I know nothing about plant design but had definite ideas (and lots of pictures) of plants that I like. I wanted a lot of color. Tina listened attentively, incorporated many of my favorites and also showed me so many other plant options that I had never seen before. We could not be happier with the finished product! Our yard is so bright, colorful, cheery and low-maintenance. There are always several different plants blooming at one time and we get constant complaints. Tina has also taken the time to educate us on some necessary care for our plants. We highly recommend Tina and H2 XERO for a yard that will make you proud!

I interviewed four firms to xeriscape our front yard. H2Xero based in Westminster, Orange County was the pick. There was an initial reasonable consultation fee. Both owner Tina and her designer Jen, who eventually helmed this project, inspected our front and back yard carefully, took tons of notes, and listened, listened, listened! Even more crucially for me, though they are a landscape DESIGN firm, for this job H2Xero was willing to MANAGE THE CONTRACTOR'S INSTALLATION work. That was worth its weight in gold. Lastly, Jen's plan and plant choices complied with Long Beach's Lawn2Garden rebate program. It took two rounds of Round-Up and three months to kill the 1,400 square foot lawn, but actual installation took just six days -- completely astonishing for such a complex plan... Over 60 feet of decomposed granite pathways curve around two gentle hills. A partly shaded sitting area with bench sits beside a realistic, functional stream bed with a french drain under the rain gutter channeling rainwater away from the house, back into the landscape. 70 feet of curbside strip, planted to be walkable. Another 70 foot strip up the property line toward the house, and two small beds by the front door. A few large boulders scattered on the hills to match the stream bed. Jen provided large-scale plans, and very helpful color printout of the water-wise plants palette, featuring purples and oranges, ornamental grasses and "statement" aloes. She sourced all the plants, plus incorporated ones dug out of the back yard and moved to the front, which saved some money. When the larger, colorful boulders arrived, contractor Blue Lagoon Gardening company's workers helped me pick perfect spots to feature them. From useless patch of grass to delightful ecosystem! The stream bed is so lovely, and the mix of rough and rounded stones looks so natural, I keep thinking I'm on a hike in the San Gabriels. The well-tamped DG pathways are even wheelchair-accessible. But it's the careful, artistic, esthetic plant placement -- from flower colors to foliage types -- that keeps catching my eye. Clumps of deer grass, grama grass and amusing "Cousin It" shrubs catch every breeze (our delighted cat thinks the swaying grass was planted just for him). The final bark mulch gives off a pleasant, woodsy aroma. Cars actually slow down when they pass our house. I've gotten countless thumbs-up from neighbors I never knew. My husband parks by the curb after his long commute home, takes the gracefully curved footpath "over the river and through the woods," and arrives at the front porch smiling. That's the best -- or possibly it's the magically improved views out our bedroom and bathroom windows. I highly, enthusiastically recommend H2Xero Landscape. Ultimate compliment? I paid them MORE than their final invoice. Their thorough preparation, hard work and excellent management merited more.

This company is very easy to work with and based on their knowledge and professionalism were selected over two other contractors to change the landscaping to drought tolerant plants and the irrigation system to drip. After an initial review of the existing yard and meeting with us to determine the basic plants and layout they provided us with working plans, drawings and specifications for the project. The project started on schedule and was projected for a 1 to 2 week completion however some unforeseen problems with root entanglements in the existing landscape and irrigation delayed completion another week. They did the extra work without asking for an adjustment to the contract price. We are very pleased with the outcome of this project and highly recommend this company.

Six months ago we contracted with H2 XERO to create a landscape design as well as supervise the project for replacing a traditional front lawn and flower bed design. Tina was always prompt to each meeting, she listened carefully to ensure she understood our vision for the landscape design as well as the living space we were creating. Her pricing was reasonable for her expertise. An added bonus is Tina's irrigation certifications. We wanted to ensure that after committing resources to this project the plantings would thrive by receiving the appropriate watering. The project was completed on time and within budget. Tina's staff and subcontractors were outstanding. From the very first day we have had neighbors as well as strangers stop by to admire our newly created front yard. The beautiful plantings continue to amaze six months later. We are very grateful to Tina and her team for their outstanding service.
