Working with Chris was great! We were able to schedule her promptly and she perfectly captured what we wanted in our backyard design. Everything we had mentioned that was important to us or concerns we had were addressed. She drew up excellent designs for both the landscaping and the irrigation so that we could get accurate bids from installers. She is also very familiar with the industry in the region and has any connections you might need or want regarding the necessary work. We wouldn't hesitate to use Chris again. She knows her stuff!

Our modern home built ten years ago on ten acres of juniper tree desert space was never landscaped by the original owner. Chris’s design that transformed our surroundings was a work of art. Not only did her plan complement the architecture of the house but harmonized with the natural beauty of our site. Chris is an excellent architect and a joy to work with.

Chris Hart-Henderson masterfully created an extensive contemporary design for our new home construction that met strict Firewise guidelines, HOA requirements, wildlife resistant plants, and Feng Shui recommendations. No easy task. She is a seasoned landscape designer in Central Oregon—she knows plants/trees, and what will work and what won’t in this climate. In our initial meeting, she carefully listened to our needs and desires, and delivered. She worked very well with us and the rest of our construction team. We began the landscaping for our home with a blank canvas, just dirt and some patchy areas of tired grass. Chris suggested a completely unexpected way of landscaping the property with an enclosed back yard and hardscape that would tie the house and the new garage together. She contoured the land in both the front and back yards to create visual interest and make the house look settled into the site. Chris had the expertise needed to resolve complicated issues related to drainage and elevation and was able to recommend highly capable subcontractors for paving, fencing, landscaping installation and tree-trimming (there are Ponderosa pines on the property). We worked together to create a beautiful native plant design that would do well in a yard with a lot of shade. She was always available to respond to our questions and concerns. The whole process unfolded in a smooth and timely way. Chris is extremely knowledgeable and super-creative.

Chris Hart-Henderson did a masterful job in designing and landscaping our home. Her design experience and expertise combined with her knowledge of the appropriate trees, plants, boulders, hardscape, water feature and integration of our sculpture is unparalleled. It is as though our home was just set into this incredible natural environment. Chris designed a private courtyard which is admired by all who visit and has enhanced our indoor-outdoor lifestyle.

Heart Springs Landscape Designer, Chris, is knowledgeable not only in terms of flora, but also hardscaping, which made it easy to choose materials for paths and patios. She also has had lots of experience with Homeowner Association guidelines, which helped me choose plants that were acceptable, thus facilitating the approval process. She listened carefully to what I wanted, advised me of issues regarding Oregon weather (I just moved here), and developed a beautiful landscape design that captured my vision to a tee.

We are currently working with Heart Springs Landscaping on a design for a second home building project in Bend. We were completely happy with their landscaping design on the first home we built in Bend. We were especially pleased to see how beautifully the first project matured over the years. Heart Springs Landscape Design is the best: visionary, knowledgeable, practical, adaptable. Very skillful rendering of landscaping options and recommendations. Very responsive to new ideas and suggestions. Clear explanations of the pros and cons of any choice. Our new construction project requires a lot of coordination among architect, builder and landscape designer. We feel very lucky to be working with Chris on our landscaping.

In 2014 we bought a new house in Bend on a 1/2 acre lot that was a clean slate. One of the major reasons we bought the house was the lot. We found Heart Springs on The Environmental Center Web Page. We worked with Chris in design of our front and back yard. In the back yard I wanted several hundred square feet of raised beds for my vegetable garden. Chris did an excellent job of integrating the raised beds and the small orchard into the total design. She also recommended Daniel Balyeat Landscaping to do most of the installation. We now have a beautiful yard with a productive fruit and vegetable garden.

Chris and Ani at Heart Springs helped us transform an ordinary, small side yard into a larger outdoor living space that we could use and enjoy. They also recommended skilled craftsmen and landscapers to do the work. They showed up on time, worked hard, and produced exceptional results! We now have an inviting patio and pleasant surroundings to enjoy when we step outside our home in beautiful Bend.

We hired Heartsprings to be a part of our team to build one of the first Living building Challenge homes known to date. This home is located in the downtown area of Bend, Oregon. To achieve the LBC water requirement, we had to collect rain and snow in an urban area to meet all our water needs. Heartsprings went to work on this challenge and calculated roof lines to collect enough water in an area with with 11" of annual rainfall to feed the home as well as the landscape. They then designed a landscape to include all native plants and trees. We are living in our home for over a year now and have a beautifully landscaped yard and enough water has been available to keep us comfortable. They were exceptional to work with and through the many years of this project, we have grown to respect them as a business and now as friends. We would not hesitate to recommend them.

I had the pleasure of working with Heart Springs for designing the landscaping of 2 of my homes. My garden turned out spectacularly and is my most favorite part of my home. Prior to that I had used a landscaper/installer to design and landscape my prior 3 homes and there is absolutely no comparison to the garden that Heart Springs designed vs my prior home garden designs . Not only do I love my yard, but I know all my neighbors enjoy it as well since I get so many compliments from everyone who walks thru our neighborhood.

Heart Springs Design is our personal go-to for any design services and knowledge base we need to learn. I originally met Chris when she redesigned our front yard. I had a concept in my head and I just couldn't' quite figure out how to put it on the ground. She blew us away, capturing that idea and expanding it in ways that we hadn't even considered. This is thee best use of landscaping dollars to be had anywhere. Since then, she designed a native and drought resistant garden for us (www.laurelpocketpark.org), Ani designed a community garden (www.franklinscorner.org) and we are sitting on plans for something incredible at our City Hall. Heart Springs Design provided landscape coaching for my existing garden and courtyard. They were both professional and delightful to work with. Design suggestions used and rearranged the plants I had to improve the beauty and flow of my perennial shade garden. Recommended new plants are critter resistant, growing well and looking lovely.
