Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Heynssens and Grassman. Our main contact was Rene Heynnsens. In my opinion, we spent way too much time and energy with Heynssens & Grassman trying to get them to properly complete our yard project. In the end, it was necessary to hire a different landscaper to complete the job properly. After filing a lawsuit against Heynnsens & Grassman in Cook County Circuit Court, we were able to recover the costs of the project remediation. This was an exhausting, negative, and unnecessary experience.

Rene is knowledgeable and wonderful with our clients. She creates beautiful renderings that help clients conceptualize their project. As a seasoned design-build firm, we have worked with several landscape firms over the years. However, Heynssens + Grassman stands out. Not only do they design a gorgeous outdoor areas, with effective site management, they see it through to completion.

Heynssens and grassman did the landscaping in the front of our house about 10 years ago and it is beautiful and easy to maintain to this day. We recently had them move a stone wall, level our patio and remove and repair some work done by someone else on our front steps. They were so nice to work with. They worked hard, they were reliable, and their craftsmanship was top notch. I love our new wall along our driveway and appreciate how nice the stonework is every day! I highly recommend them and will definitely use them in the future for our landscape design needs! Five stars!

It was a joy to work with Heynssens and Grassman on the design and development of our garden. We started with learning the history of our area. Our property is located on a historic site and together we learned about the history of the area. We ended up with a totally redeveloped garden that preserved old cold frames that were part of the original estate kitchen garden. The result was a beautiful pathway, perennial garden and pergola which won an award from the Preservation Foundation.

The landscape designer and architect were superb: Although some plans were gorgeous, they were responsive to our budget requirements, our style and preferences, and incorporated our ideas. The work was completed quickly and they communicated the need for any changes from the original plan. The designer gave us detailed information, provided reasonable choices, took responsibility for any errors, and replaced plants as well as transplanted plants a year later under the guarantee.

We have completed 3 major projects, and several smaller ones, over the past 12 years at two different homes with Heynssens+Grassman, and have used them for lawn service and maintenance as well. Rene Heynssens has been a remarkably good (and patient) partner for a couple that often brings different sets of ideas to a project, and has helped us evolve each of our projects to an end state that we have both been very, very happy with. I would highly recommend them for design and execution of landscape projects.

Rene and Kristy were both highly involved in our backyard remodel from start to finish, and even came back one year later. Our budget was adhered to, and they were even able to break the project into phases. The design process was truly collaborative and we felt that our feedback was valued. When issues came up (as they always do with major projects) their team was responsive. We are extremely happy with the final result, and plan to use them again for the front yard remodel.

I cannot say enough good things about every aspect from design, installation and service. I can still remember returning home from a vacation to see our new yard!
