Huettl Landscape Architecture

We highly recommend Huettl Landscape Architecture and would look forward to working with them again, Joe Huettl developed a comprehensive design for a complete overhaul of our Danville home's front and back yard. Joe covered everything from the drainage, grading, lighting, planting, concrete work, pool and basketball court placement, etc. He incorporated our feedback for minor tweaks and gave us a design that we love and use every day. We highly recommend Joe!

We worked with Joseph and his firm on a large new hillside residence in Orinda, and the end results were excellent. The project was completed in 2016 and the home is around 5,000SF on 1 acre of land. A lot of retaining walls and custom concrete pavers and planters, all handled meticulously and the owners are very happy. We look forward to working with Huettl Landscape Architecture again.

As a design professional, it gives me great pleasure to refer Joseph Huettl and his team. Not a day goes by that we do not marvel at the transformation of our property. He has superior sense of the relationships of outdoor and indoor spaces and how important architectural relationships are to the landscape. Creating outdoor spaces that have an effortless sense of order can be difficult, but Joe does so with ease. His aesthetic sense for contemporary details is wonderful. He understands restraint and the importance of working to resolve complex issues. Personally, he is easy going which is a plus tackling the unexpected surprises that come with every project.

Joseph transformed a seemingly unusable space into our own private resort. (check out pictures under Northgate.) He is incredibly talented - from a technical standpoint he dealt with a difficult grade and oddly shaped space. His design aesthetic is superb. He also considers how we will live - so it isn't just pretty, it is infinitely practical. He was really fun to work with because he is so talented, saw things we didn't see and is just a super nice guy. We couldn't be happier with the outcome of this project. We used the word "resort" above because that is what our friends and family say when they come visit. We highly recommend Joseph for his design excellence, project execution and partnership.

I hired Huettl Landscape Architecture to do my design to build project in Piedmont, California. We selected this company because owner, Joseph Huettl's design aesthetic closely matched our mid-century modern house. His designer eye is absolutely impeccable - he turned our yard from a disaster into a beautiful masterpiece that is also completely usable. We love it. (Check out the images for "Killingsworth.") It has been completed for about two months. We have had many, many days of rain and the drainage around our multiple terraces is working beautifully - and everyone loves our beautiful stairs and water features. We have referred him to several friends and would definitely use him again!

Update - Hired Joe AGAIN. See below. He knocked it out of the park! The beautiful and purposeful composition of our yards tell a story of who we are and how we live. They allow the viewer a glimpse inside. For us, it was imperative the person we hired understand and embrace our view. Enter Joe, a soft-spoken, talented and likeable man who shares a passion for his trade and clients’ vision. He took something ordinary, our yard, and made it extraordinary – and in the process, earned our trust and deep respect. He held our hand, was attentive to our numerous questions, possessed unwavering honesty, and became a valued friend. We are thunder lizards now (supporters/advocates of the highest) and wouldn’t dream of employing anyone else. We love coming home. Strangers often stop and comment. Our life is enhanced and our neighborhood is a more beautiful place. Do yourself a favor and hire this man. You won’t be disappointed. We relocated to Reno, NV. Joe transformed our home beyond common words. Several of our neighbors have brought by multiple bottles of wine, profusely thanking us for the incredible improvement to the neighborhood. He has a gift that I hope you will have the good fortune to experience.

Joseph Huettl was a pleasure to work with, he involved us in the design of the fire bowl, was there to accept delivery of it, and produce a beautiful design.

Our experience working with Joe and his crew has been wonderful from design to installation. Joe met with us, took our initial idea and created a yard that captures the modern aesthetic of our Eichler home. Without him, small but important details would have been missed like pebble strips in the driveway, the honed cement block walls, and the simple cut out for the front fountain. Each is a small or simple item, but those details help make the project. We loved the front yard plan so much, we also had him do our backyard. And it is just as spectacular. People drive by our house and stop to look at the yard. Joe made sure all our concerns were addressed from drainage to the color of flowers. We gave him our budget and he stayed within it while providing a phenomenal project. His construction crew were also great to work with. They showed up on time, they left the site clean each day and kept us up to date on any changes or delays. Joe was at the site often to make sure we were happy with the progress, the plants, the layout, etc. When we did make some changes in the design Joe made the changes quickly, easily and perfectly. If this sounds like we are impressed with Huettl Landscape Architecture we are. Not only does he have a phenomenal design aesthetic, but he has a hardworking, experienced crew that is very capable of executing his designs which in our project included steel troweled stucco walls, masonry block walls, a custom deck, slate patio, pebble tile inset strips and 2 custom water features. We highly recommend Huettl Architecture.
