When we decided it was time to have the 4'-0" chain link fence that surrounded our garden removed and replaced with a more private 6'- 0" wooden one- we turned to Hufnagel Landscaping. We found that their website was packed with great images and ideas. We gave them a call and arranged for them to come to our garden. They spent over an hour with us discussing our ideas and giving us new ones. Within a few days we received an email with two options and estimates. After reviewing the proposals and discussing our options we chose one design plan and gave them the go ahead. After scheduling a start date the team arrived and were great. Prompt, professional, efficient, hardworking, careful and very neat- the fence was installed. They checked with us and came back to make sure all the details met our approval. The finished product was beautiful and we were so grateful to have our yard back. We couldn't be happier with their work and we would highly recommend them for any gardening project you have. Valerie and her team were really great to work with. I felt very comfortable with her. She is very knowledgeable and explained everything step-by-step from the beginning, was very patient with us, and answered all of our questions thoroughly. Her team was very professional and did a nice job. The only thing I was not happy with was the iron company that she used to fabricate my new railings (Z's Iron Works). They measured incorrectly and still charged me for the extra railing that I did not need. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Other than that, job well done by Hufnagel!

We couldn't be happier! Our backyard was in rough shape. Broken fencing, rotten deck, and weeds everywhere! The neighborhood stray cats loved it, but it made the space unusable for us humans. Hufnagel concepted a layout that fixed all those issues and transformed our backyard into a beautiful, low maintenance retreat. The workers were prompt, courteous and clean. Valerie was quick to answer any questions we had, and to come up with smart solutions. We love our new backyard and plan to use Hufnagel for any future landscaping needs!

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. When I asked when I could expect my long-delayed project to be completed, the owner became abusive and cancelled the contract. Don't question the Hufnagels - they believe the customer is always wrong. They are living off the dregs of their reputation. Don't use them if you expect courtesy and timely delivery. Here is Valerie's email where she lists her many reasons that our project is late: "We have had the most awful year and non of it is your problem, but it leads me to the reasons we are so far behind. The weather is just one issue and yes it has been a big issue. We have also had some personal turmoil within our company. From a foreman becoming violent and attacking another employee in our office, which was a serious workplace violence incident, to another foreman being seriously injured in a motorcycle accident to a burglary in our shop, we have been limping all year. " I certainly don't want people who commit "workplace violence" working in and around my home. They admit they are limping badly, and then they go out of their way to alienate the customer. Reflect carefully. These people are trouble.

Jason & the team did an excellent job with the backyard, we are so happy with it. The crew is extremely professional and works very hard every day to make sure they are taking advantage of good weather in order to complete the work as best and fast as possible. -- The process starts by meeting the designer (and also project manager who will be your point of contact moving forward) & collaborating on designs. After a few iterations, you will reach a final design and pay for that upfront and separately from everything else. Once you've approved the design, you will continue to set a start date and sign a contract. In the beginning the timeline was slightly cryptic, especially regarding start date, but once you get through that, you will find that a lot of their work depends on weather and it's just a standard part of the process. So for us, our start got pushed back around 2 to 4 weeks. Make sure you try to get on the schedule end of winter, early spring to avoid that. Our backyard renovation was supposed to take 2 weeks, but it ended up taking 4 weeks due to weather delays and what not. But regardless the crew was great, showed up every day at around 9:00 am and left at around 5:00 pm. They always made sure the floors are protected with a tarp and always vacuumed any debris before they left. Their price is reasonable and they are great with adjusting the design as they build and as needed. If you end up having to change something in the design, they are happy to do it. For us, they never went over budget, but we did have to cancel some things that were pricey and turned out to be not needed. They ended up making up for the cost by adding something else to maintain the same total cost. They all know what they are doing, and they are really great & trustworthy. I highly recommend them, just be patient and expect weather delays, it's part of the process.

I am very happy with my new backyard. Hufnagel was the most responsive and communicative contractor I have every worked with. Val and her team were with me every step of the way and the results are spectacular. The project managers were patient and the people working in my home on a day to day basis were conscientious and careful.

The project consisted in removing a concrete pad and replacing with blue stone, building IPE planters onsite, selecting and planting plants. Great landscaping and hardscaping work. Excellent crew: knowledgeable, professional, attentive to detail and with a positive attitude. Worked within budget. Must book project and set deadlines in advance as they are very busy during prime landscaping season.

I recommend them if you want to have your dream landscape designed and installed properly, so that it will thrive and look great for years to come. In 2005, we hired Hufnagel to create and implement a design for our backyard which had become a construction zone for our brownstone renovation. My husband and I had some specific requirements on what we wanted in the yard and how it was to look including hardscape design and materials, and layout of trees, shrubs and perennial plants. What was created was an absolutely beautifully stunning backyard which incorporated our requirements including having the yard act as an extension of our house, or another "room" to our brownstone. All of the Hufnagel personnel were truly professional, efficient and reliable, which is in and of itself, worth the hire. We hire the company every Spring to do our clean-up, and whenever we are in need of a special service. In short, they are the best and I would not hesitate to hire them.

I have been doing business with Hufnagel Landscaping for more than 15 years. They have done numerous landscaping projects over the years along with a variety of landscaping construction projects. Most recently, they replaced my blacktop driveway with pavers, completely rebuilt my front steps and redid all of the pathways on my property and replaced the pavers on my 80 x 12 back patio. While redoing the driveway and front steps they also installed thermostatically controlled heating elements so that I never have to shovel snow again. A portion of the patio (immediately in front of my back porch) is also heated as well so that my husband and I can feed the birds without even having to shovel snow again. Both the management and staff are highly professional and extremely creative. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
