Matt Kilburn

I am a Vancouver based landscape designer and garden builder who works with clients to develop customized, sustainable outdoor rooms. I co-own a landscape design/build business called Take Root Gardens, check us out on Houzz. My interest in gardens sprouted at a very early age. As far back as I can remember, I was digging alongside my parents, developing an understanding of plants and the dynamic nature of the garden. My education in gardens was expanded significantly by a year spent in England as a child where I was introduced to a wide variety of landscapes. I studied fine art in university focusing on drawing, painting, photography and sculpture. This training resulted in a successful career as a graphic designer but I always aspired to get back outside. I made this dream into a reality by going back to school for landscape design and found that my skills as a graphic designer were well suited to the design of outdoor spaces. This combination of artistic assets and technical knowledge provides me with a unique eye for composition and the ability to communicate my ideas effectively in a graphic manner.
