We hired Susan and her team to completely redesign our backyard which is dominated by redwoods. Susan was able to incorporate our own wishes for the garden with her planting and design expertise and came up with a garden that we love to be in. Susan and her team were very responsive when we had questions or suggestions, and were always happy to discuss their recommendations. Her installation team is top notch, both in terms of their work and communication with us. We are so happy with the results!

Sue helped us create a beautiful kid-friendly backyard renovation—with custom fencing, play area, sand pit and later (phase 2) a custom shaped deck. Sue is reliable, friendly, honest and conscientious.

Susan is GREAT! She listened to what I wanted and offered suggestions when I was unsure. She was committed to me getting what I wanted, at times more committed than I was. I really appreciate this about her. When we ran into snags and I was ready to compromise, she stood beside me and said I am not willing to compromise on what you want, we will find a way. And we did. Susan hand picked the plants at the nursery, she met the truck and inventoried the plants as they were delivered, She placed all the plants in the garden for the landscaper to plant, she came by several times to monitor the installation and has been available to help with a few unforeseeable issues that came up after installation. She is knowledgeable, skilled, talented and committed to the whole project. I can't say enough good things about Susan.

Sue was super to work with to update our landscaping and all the pots and plantings on our deck. I'd even say the process was fun. We had sunny areas, areas of deep shade, and mixed sun/shade areas. She provided a variety of ideas for each spot, and met with us several times to help us make decisions. We couldn't be happier with the results, and I highly recommended her.

Due to a large tree root and drainage issues, we needed to regrade our backyard. Susan designed a new back deck, screening landscaping, hardscape, and a beautiful side garden. She dealt with all of the permit issues, oversaw the entire project, and kept within our budget. She turned our backyard into a beautiful space for our family to enjoy.

I am very happy to write a glowing review for Miller Landscape Architecture. Hans (my husband) and I were very lucky that we decided to contract with them to have our yards landscaped last fall. Sue Miller met with us 2 or 3 times during the design phase and fully explained everything. She worked within our budget and provided a full database of potential plants so that we could pick and choose what we liked. She recommended a great contractor for the installation which proceeded to budget and to the agreed timeline. We asked for some changes towards the end and these were accommodated quickly and efficiently. After the installation, Sue swapped out some plants that were not doing well at no charge. We are now (in May) enjoying having a very pretty space in our back yard which has made shelter in place so much easier and more pleasant for our family.

Susan was professional and a pleasure to work with for design of a 900 square foot deck surrounding our house. Her expertise was apparent and gave me confidence that our deck would be beautiful, well constructed and meet code requirements. Especially appreciated that she offered great ideas for the design, helped in selecting materials and dealing with contractor issues. She worked with the city to get the plans approved and she met with us several times, keeping us informed at each step in developing the plans. Well worth the expense.

Susan was great to work with she was attentive and listen to my vision of what I wanted and needed in the back yard Susan and her team worked hard at bring my dream into reality team was knowledgeable and very professional I did a pavilion with large sliding glass door spanning 20 feet. which all slide in to a pocket door, when you want it all open, I have housed a sports bar like atmosphere with TV, fire pit, over heaters I did a deck with my BBQ area, and have used Equinox roof that can open or close My house double in space for relaxing, entertaining and socializing everyone that comes to my house is constantly talking about my back yard My deck, pavilion and play area are being used all the time I would highly recommend her

Miller Landscape Architecture provided a wonderful design for our back yard renovation project. Susan and Lupe guided us through the selection of all the necessary elements from hardscape to planting. They also managed the project with the construction team, and provided detailed construction documents and aided in the permitting process. The quality of work is top notch. All in all a good experience. The end result is a spacious backyard that is beautiful and great for relaxing and entertaining.

Susan created a fantastic design for our backyard that exceeded our expectations! We were truly stumped at what to do with our space which was filled with lots of concrete and an old, small, pool. We hired Susan and she designed a space that is a true extension of our home and fits the modern, mid-century feel we wanted, while still be comfortable and both kid and dog friendly. She also was willing to field all my questions about plants and the many thoughts and concerns I had about which type of tree to plant. I don't know much about plants, but I had a lot of opinions on what I wanted, and she was flexible with all of my requests/questions! Sue Miller, at Miller Landscape, is a pleasure to work with. Her team completely redesigned our backyard...gutting the whole thing, regrading it, and creating a drought-tolerance landscape. She worked closely with me to determine what the needs of my family were and was always readily available for follow-up questions.

Sue Miller developed a plan to redesign our backyard in Alameda and also worked with the landscape contractor to manage the project. Our previous backyard was a large space consisting of a rotting wooden deck overlooking a large cement area next to an area with several brick planting terraces. Lots of hardscaping. Sue had the vision to think about the entire space as a blank canvas and come up with a design that brought everything down to ground-level, which really enlarged the space, and replaced most of the hardscaping (we still left some of the cement area for kids to play basketball) with greenery. Specifically, we replaced the raised deck with a ground-level flagstone patio, put in a small area of grass, and surrounded the yard with a variety of plants and trees. Sue also had the great idea of reusing the bricks from the terraces to build a winding brick pathway separating the patio and the lawn/greenery. Sue's plan was terrific and she also was very easy to work with -- adapting plans as we gave her feedback. She also worked great with the contractor to make sure the contractor implemented the plan accurately. In sum, we are extremely pleased with how the project worked out and with our experience with Miller Landscaping.

Sue redesigned our medium sized basic backyard into the tropical retreat and entertainment area we wanted it to be. She accommodated all of our requests and managed the entire project.

We hired Miller Landscape Architecture to redesign our backyard. The backyard is a small space that backs up to an ugly apartment building. Sue, the owner of Miller Landscape Architecture, collaborated with us and came up with several great ideas that were beautiful, space efficient and just great feeling. When we finally decided what design we wanted, we threw in the wrench of adding a hot tub in an already limited space. Sue was completely flexible and open to the change. We love our backyard and receive compliments on it whenever we have guests. It's quiet, peaceful, beautiful and works for our family. I highly recommend hiring Miller Landscape Architecture.

Sue designed a complete redo of my front yard, and a beautiful update to my back yard. I found her very easy to work with. She has a calm, relaxed, laid-back demeanor. Even though I was unclear on what I wanted in the landscape design, other than wanting a front yard that was welcoming and complimentary to the house, she had a vision that met those wishes and the end result surpassed my expectations. She met deadlines on time and gently nudged me to make decisions to avoid slowing the process down. She was receptive to making design changes, and didn't begrudge us when we decided to scale down the changes to our back yard. During construction, she worked closely with our contractor and stayed on top of the work being done. I was so delighted with the finished landscape work. Our home's curb appeal has greatly increased and our previously never-used back yard has been transformed into a place my family enjoys spending time in. Susan is an unusual mix of artistic with a wonderful eye for what things will look like, and pragmatic, finding real solutions that are affordable and "green". She is also incredible easy to work with and very responsive. I will definitely go with her again. She is the best!

Sue Miller of Miller Landscape Architecture took our weedy, uneven, unusable backyard and transformed it into a beautiful terraced garden perfect for relaxing and entertaining.
