We needed an affordable landscape design that would fit the specifics of our property, as well as our budget. Julie's on-line approach to designing was perfect for us. Julie came over to our house and spent an hour talking with us and getting our input. She then did a draft plan that we reviewed. There were some minor changes that Julie was happy to make to the plan. Her final plan included all of our ideas, as well as her suggestions. Julie was prompt, professional and very pleasant to deal with. Although our original contract with Julie is completed, she remains available for additional consultations on a per hour rate as we go forward turning her design into reality. Julie prepared detailed and specific plans for hardscaping and landscaping River Folly, our cabin on the Potomac River in West Virginia. Her design perfectly incorporated our desire for a low maintenance design using local materials and native plants.

We hired Julie to help with our hardscape and landscape design on a new home we were completing in Seattle. The house was a modern design and after seeing Julie’s work on houzz as well as her website we thought that her aesthetic was very aligned with the style of the house and our vision for the outdoor space. We met with Julie several times and were impressed by her professionalism and knowledge. She really made an effort to understand what we wanted and incorporated it nicely into her designs. We were also fortunate that the builder was still finishing a number of retaining walls as well as the fencing, and Julie was able to jump in to help with some quick decisions. We were very pleased with the plans Julie presented and her flexibility to make a few changes that we requested. We really love the end result and it turned out to be a great space to relax in and a nice complement to our new home. We highly recommend Julie and wouldn’t hesitate to hire her again ourselves.

We are a small church located in the middle of a residential neighborhood. We hired ModernBackyard to design a space that was welcoming, open, versatile and beautiful. We wanted a landscape that would allow us to hold gatherings, create art installations, invite quiet sitting and welcome all. They heard our desires and were very open, responsive and creative. My wife and I used Julie Miles/ ModernBackyard to design the complete lanscape plan, including hardscape and plantings for our new house in the Montlake/ Interlaken area of central Seattle in 2010. We both felt she did an exemplary job . Julie showed a deep understanding of the architecture of the building as well as the site and came up with elegant solutions that successfully balanced privacy and openness. The end result beautifully integrated the house with its site and has impressed all who have seen it, including many friends who are architects and designers. Throughout the process she was always responsive and profesional, on time and respectful of our needs and budget. I will add that as a builder that has seen many drawings, the hand drawn perspective sketches and renderings Julie provided for us are the most beautiful I have seen in my 25 years in the business.
