I hired Breaking Ground to help resolve drainage issues in my backyard. In addition I wanted to freshen up my front yard. Cyndy Corrigan showed up with a sketched proposal. I liked her ideas very much and the price seemed fair. The job is done and I could not be happier. The workmanship is excellent. I would highly recommend this company for their professionalism and for their skilled hardworking crew.

We hired Breaking Ground to design our acreage landscaping, install our drain tile, two retaining walls, and limestone steps. We have had problems with all the hardscapes. The drain tile (drainage pipe) which connects to the downspouts and is buried underground, was installed so shallow that when it rained, it popped out of the ground. This is 4” diameter drain tile and it should be buried 8-10” subgrade. They did return and reburied it. When a downspout backed up, we called Breaking Ground and asked where the outlets are as we could only locate 4 for the 8 downspouts and incorrectly thought several were joined together. They did not know. We had to dig up our landscaping to locate drain paths. The drain tile that was clogged was barely underground, covered only by a layer of sod, had no opening, and was not sloped 1/8” per foot as required for adequate drainage. In fact, it was sloped higher at the end point than where it entered the ground. There was no end cap and the opening was completely buried in the soil resulting in over 3 feet of entwined roots that had grown into the pipe. The tile they reburied was also not sloped properly and caused problems along with one that tied into it which had ice backing up in the winter. Soil began to wash out between the stones of the retaining wall and the stones began to shift. A contractor we hired to install our fire pit advised us that the walls were not installed properly. No gravel or other material was used behind the stones. The limestone steps began cracking soon after installation, narrow cracks at first. When it appeared they all were cracking, separating and becoming unstable to walk on and a safety hazard, we asked Bobby Monzingo, our designer at Breaking Ground, to come out. He advised that it was a problem with the Kansas limestone, a stone that he recommended and installed. What he didn’t tell us, and we learned later, was the steps also were installed improperly without a proper base. After learning that our problems were a direct result of substandard work by Breaking Ground, we called and talked with Gary Bunjer (shown as the President on bbb.org). An employee came out but told us he would charge for repairs. I did not agree and called again and talked to Cindy Corrigan who said she is the owner. She came out and also said they would charge us for the repairs. These are latent defects of workmanship that are now presenting and Breaking Ground should warranty their work and return to complete all repairs without cost to us. When a contractor is hired, we, as property owners, are dependent on the contractor's knowledge, skill, and expertise and have the expectation that all work will be performed according to industry’s standards. This obviously has not been the case.

I would highly recommend Breaking Ground. Their design and landscaping were exceptional! I would and will use them again. They did the front of our house first, and then last summer did a great stone patio for us.

We were completely satisfied with the professionalism and courtesy with they carried out our landscape project. From design to implementation they were efficient and thorough. We recommend Breaking Ground to friends and family.

We had Scott with Breaking Ground landscape our yard. He listened when I asked for color and blooms and unique plants and we received just that as we have something blooming the whole season long. We have received nothing but positive comments from our neighbors and visitors. It turned out beautifully and we couldn't be happier.

Working with this company was great! We moved into a new home and wanted to spruce it up with some trees and other items. They provided a quote and installed in a timely manner. Would definitely use them again. The newly designed site is very easy to use and the example projects were fun to look at and possibly look into for later projects. Thanks!

Cyndi has been so helpful in working and planning with us with her suggestions for our rather unusual garden. Every season is a surprise of color the way they incorporated different blooming times and plants that added interest in the winter. Plus they understood we needed plants that would not be bothered by many types of wildlife. The crews we're very efficient, clean, and attentive to detail. I cannot say enough good things about Breaking ground, I highly recommend them for any size of project. I will never use anyone else

So pleased with their work, this is the second project we consulted with Breaking Ground to do. Both projects were a redesign of some heavily landscaped areas done by the previous homeowners. Our landscape specialist was innovative and attentive. Thoughtful in her approach and design, we felt part of the process as she encouraged us to ask questions and provide feedback. The final result is a reflection of that patience. The landscape team was prompt, professional, and efficient. More importantly, they were organized and clean. Projects that could have been easily overwhelming for any homeowner ended up being a complete joy. We will look to Breaking Ground first for all future projects.
