Buckthorn removal on my shady urban lot was quickly followed by sprouts of small buckthorn, garlic mustard, motherwort and a whole variety of unwanted aliens. Replacement with “good” plants was urgent. Information about native plants was abundant, but the complexity of matching plants to conditions of sun and shade, moisture, and soil types while attempting to arrange views of groups of plants of varying heights, colors and seasons was overwhelming. Beginning with an almost bare and shady space, Heather designed plantings to provide screening from public trails, a path to reveal the various aspects of the terrain, and low-care perennials to add color and seasonal variety. As the last of the buckthorn was removed, the discovery of volunteer specimens of shrubs she had recommended validated the appropriateness of her choices to this specific place. Heather’s deep expertise and diverse options made this a happy learning experience for me, and gave me a strong sense of participation in this restoration. I’m delighted with the developing naturalization of my urban space, and the increased insect and bird populations visiting here. Nancy St. Louis Park, MN

I hired Heather to design a logo and to help layout some of my promotional materials. I'm delighted with the results. Heather is very creative, had a good ability to understand what I was looking for and was very responsive and prompt in returning designs.

Heather’s expert consultation services have been invaluable as I have worked on two woodland restorations during the last three years. She identified the invasive species that required removal, and the desirable native species that needed protection and encouragement in my landscape. The design and plant selection that Heather prepared was done with careful attention to the conditions in my space. Then she helped me to set priorities, organize the work, write two grant requests, and make a plan for maintenance. The information and assistance that Heather provided on the many resources available like native plant nurseries and sales, watershed grants, books and conferences was a huge help to me. Her vast knowledge of native plants and their relationship to insects and wildlife have made the projects meaningful and fun. I have also appreciated her persistent help with finding solutions to challenges like minimizing damage to plantings from deer and rabbits and eradicating creeping bellflower. Heather is a wonderful teacher with a very pleasant, authentic and enthusiastic approach.

I love working with Heather! I found her Company on Facebook as we share similar interests promoting native plants and native fauna in the landscape. I am so glad I did!! I hire Heather to create CAD representations of my hand drawn native designs. She is prompt, efficient, creative and always on or under budget. She also incorporated the branding and feel of Sparrow. I will continue to work with Heather on future projects.
