I liked Katie Ross right from the start. Super sweet and full of knowledge and excellent ideas for our landscape redesign. She and her gardening counterpart Stephanie took all of our rather particular requests and directions and did a beautiful job (which is saying something, because few things are at their finest in November) and I’m so excited to see it in all its glory this summer. Katie’s frequent and clear communication of timelines, budgets and expectations was super helpful, too. I would look forward to working with her again, should we ever want to tweak anything or extend the scope.

The Sage and Stone folks were wonderful to work with, every step of the way. They patiently worked with us on a super unique design that incorporated our personalities and interests. They were also mindful of our budget and worked with us on finding something amazing that was practical and worked within budget. They also were fast and prompt with the construction -- working diligently and quickly through the whole process. When we ran into an issue with undocumented plumbing situation (and interactions with our neighbor), they were great collaborators on coming to an arrangement with our neighbors that resolved the situation satisfactorily for all parties. Wonderful folks to work with and I completely recommend them for anybody else.

This is our third time working with Sage and Stone. They transformed our first house almost 10 years ago, and then our commercial property about five years ago. Now we are in a new house and we knew exactly who we would call to help bring our exterior landscaping up to a really nice standard. We are so pleased with the results. Sage and Stone have people who are proficient in design, plant selection, stone work, carpentry, electrical and plumbing. ln addition, Sage and Stone uncovered an up-until-then unknown sink hole and associated drainage issue. They were able to fix the issue and repair the sink hole. Whatever we can dream they can create. In particular I wanted to note that the people at the company are truly amazing. They are positive, extremely knowledgeable, good communicators, and hard workers. We want to give a special shout out to Sage and Stone's lead designer, Katie. She helped us envision our dream yard. Not only was she very good at creating an aesthetically pleasing design that incorporated our various desires, but she has such a deep knowledge in how plants will fair on different parts of the property due to sun exposure and time of year that we really know that everything will look great throughout the year.

Sage and Stone completely has transformed our yard. We started with an old basketball court and some sad weeds, and now we have a magical paradise! From the beautiful curved fencing to the handmade raised garden planters, Sage and Stone helped build an ADA accessible garden for our entire family to enjoy. The team is so friendly and professional, they have excellent communication and they are knowledgeable and ecologically-minded problem-solvers. Thank you all for our garden. The maintence crew is also fantastic and I am glad I’m continuing with their services!

Gabe and his team were wonderful to work with, from start to finish. Our landscaping project included many different elements and required a lot of work with the city on permitting, all of which Gabe and his team handled with ease. They were also able to accommodate neighbor requests that went above and beyond what was required. Every member of the team was incredibly hard working and pleasant to have on our property every day. Sage & Stone are an incredible landscape team! We had a yard full of wood chips after a recent house remodel and they transformed it into a gorgeous zen escape. They greatly surpassed our expectations in their professionalism and dedication to the project. They had great communication with us. They had a true dedication to details and took time to listen and collaborate with us to make sure our needs were met. They were very true to their timeline for the project and worked tirelessness despite a heat-wave in Seattle to complete our yard project. Their whole team has a can-do attitude and a real commitment to good stewardship for their created environments. Can’t recommend them highly enough!

We worked with Gabe, Martin, Leo and Leah (among others) to completely remake our backyard. We couldn’t be happier with the result! Gabe and Martin walked through before the start of the project to ensure they understood how to translate the plans into reality. Sage and Stone also worked with us on options to reduce the overall scope and budget, for instance suggesting we could lower costs a bit by doing some of the demolition and prep work ourselves (which we did). The project started on schedule and the team reliably showed up every single day for the next ten weeks. We had them remove and create a new retaining wall with Techo-Blocs, relocate a freestanding structure onto new footings, install pavers under the structure, and install a new composite deck. The team also leveled out and rebuilt a small path in the yard, evening out a slope and creating a more graceful grade by installing large 4’ black granite steps. Everything was edged using Colmet to keep the lines clean and they even installed a freestanding outlet in the yard to bring power to the seating area. There were minor adjustments along the way and the team showed great attention to detail. For instance, the freestanding structure posts required a skirt to conceal the post brackets. These were hand scribed onsite and featured backcut cedar with an elegant slope, cleanly mitrered and sealed joints, and most importantly, sealed undersides to protect them from water damage. Small details like aligning paver joints with the natural lines in the steps or landing, finding materials to patch up areas of the house that were newly exposed by the updated deck profile, and concealing electrical lines were most appreciated. When the inevitable issues arose, Martin walked us through the situation and we quickly reached a suitable outcome that he effectively managed. I can’t stress enough how hard everyone worked and that effort consistently carried to the end of the day until they cleaned up the jobsite. Tools were neatly arranged and materials were moved into inconspicuous places before the crew left everyday. The yard looks fantastic and we love spending time out there. We’re extremely happy with their work and would love to work with them again! Highly recommended.

The one exceptional thing that happened to us in 2020 is getting to work with Sage and Stone. Gabe Shulman and his entire crew are exceptional at designing and building. Its rare to work with a company that can truly exceed our expectations but Gabe and his crew did exactly that - they were all professional, hard working, talented and a pleasure to get to know. The scope of our project included a complete redesign of our front, side and backyards - which included new ledgestone walls, stone stairways, walkways, multi-zone irrigation and lighting, a backyard ledge stone gas firepit, a pergola and the design and construction of a 170sq ft cottage. We are so happy with the work performed by Sage + Stone. Our project consisted of a range of hardscaping work that included regrading 3 sides of our house, moving and redoing a rock wall, laying pavers, and pouring a preformed concrete driveway. Gabe was a great communicator and worked with us to find creative ways to scale our ambitious transformation project to our budget. Over the course of the job, he checked in regularly and kept us appraised of scheduling and logistical changes. The site crew was amazing — paid attention to the details, put in extra hours to keep the job on schedule, and kept a tidy site. Sage + Stone are seasoned professionals worth every penny. I highly recommend their services and would work with them again if I have the opportunity.

We are super excited to finally have a dream outside space that we had always wanted! We were hesitant with the overall scope of work and just how daunting the project seemed but Sage and Stone went above and beyond to meet our expectations. At every corner they were flexible accommodating and patient. Our project had the added headache of having to coordinate our interior contractor and their hectic schedule with everyone. Sage and Stone was helpful and willing to help with the logistics of such a project. We wanted to especially thank Luis, Fernando and Carlos for all their hard work. They are true masters at their craft.

We hired Sage and Stone to build our dream garden, which was designed by a local landscape architecture firm. We received three bids, and their prices were not the cheapest, but less than the highest. They ended up finishing on time, and on budget. We made a few small change orders along the way, which costs were reasonable and responsibly communicated. Overall, pricing and communication were excellent, and having worked with contractors before on several projects, I wish all contractors were this easy and fair to work with. The quality of work was outstanding (which says a lot, since I've been known to be, let's just say, Type A). The site was clean and orderly. The employees were polite and efficient. This project was completed about 8 months ago, and we had a couple of plants die and a small leak in our shelter roof. Probably the main reason I'm writing this now, is that within a week of me notifying them of these issues, Sage and Stone followed up and resolved them without hesitation. Working with Sage and Stone has been a very positive experience, and I highly recommend them if you seek high quality work from a genuinely responsible business.

Sage & Stone just completed an extensive 5-month make-over of our front, back and side yards. The transformation of our yards has been nothing short of spectacular. On a daily basis we receive effusive comments from neighbors, guests and passers-by. We are thrilled with the results. Gabe and his team worked very closely with our landscape designers (SCJ Studio) to build the landscaping we had envisioned for our remodeled Craftsman home. It is beautiful, contemporary, low-maintenance, and welcoming. Sage & Stone's work was professional, diligent, timely and responsive to our needs. We highly recommend them!

We have had the great pleasure of working with Sage & Stone on our backyard remodel. Everyone from the owner (Gabe), our onsite project manager and all-around expert (James), their sprinkler expert (Jimmy) and their electrician (Gary) were knowledgable and pleasant to with which to work. They found solutions and offered affordable solutions to the overages necessary (not thought out in the architect's design) as well as drafting deck and bench plans and offering suggestions to meet our design needs. I would highly recommend them so much so that I've just asked them to work on our front yard.

From the moment we moved into our house, we knew we wanted to re-landscape the backyard (it was a big pile of dirt and weeds). But finding a company that we trusted to do a good job (and without breaking the bank) was a big challenge, and it took us a year and a half to find Sage & Stone. I’m glad we finally found them, because they found the potential in our yard and turned it into a space that we love to come home to. Everyone we encountered at Sage & Stone was awesome: friendly, conscientious, and talented. They kept us up-to-date on each phase of the work, and immediately responded to any questions and concerns we had. Alison, in particular, was amazing. She both brought great design ideas to the table (fun play features for our young son that I wouldn’t have thought of) and went above and beyond to make things perfect. Lol – I remember one cold night she was out in the dark with a headlamp putting together a custom play structure (side note: that she had had to imagine up at the last second when the original one didn’t work out; and the new one’s better than the original!), and I unsuccessfully tried to convince her that it was okay if she wanted to go home and get some rest. We’d definitely use Sage & Stone again.

Our experience with Sage and Stone was fantastic! Their work was timely and on budget. We had them change our backyard from a pretty unusable yard with weeds to what I like to describe as "a little piece of the arboretum" complete with a deck, dry creek bed, charming little wooden bridge, espalier trees, and a variety of plants for a "children's garden". They also completed the project with irrigation and lighting. Everyone was professional and a delight to work with, in particular Alison Dewey who was our lead designer and went above and beyond to accomplish everything to her perfecting standards. My suggestion is save yourself some time and select Sage & Stone. He came in on time and budget for the original proposal. We had some additions we wanted as the project progressed. His crew did everything we asked and more. They even had suggestions to improve our thoughts to enhance the attractiveness and be more cost efficient. We have no complaints...only accolades. Save time, just hire Sage & Stone.

Sage and Stone did an excellent job on our covered dining space, pizza oven, fire pit, and edible garden. The quality of their work was excellent, they were incredibly professional and easy to interact with. In particular Alison was dream, from her design to working long hours to get the project finished in time for an event we had scheduled. The design of the project needed to included several difficult features and she came up with fun solutions to each hurdle. The completed project looks amazing and I couldn't be happier with my experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed working with Gabe and team throughout the entire process. We had a narrow backyard we wanted to make the most of. Gabe’s design included a retaining wall, vegetable beds, patio, fire pit with built-in bench seating, a gorgeous cedar wall, lighting and plantings. The best part was his idea to cover the patio so we can get additional use of the backyard outside of the summer months. The use of wood and metal is sleek and fits with our contemporary home. We couldn’t be happier with their responsiveness and quality work.

The scope of our project included a new deck, new fence and gate on one side of the house, regrading part of the backyard and installing a dry creekbed to solve a minor drainage problem, steel edging for a couple of gardens, and seeding a new lawn in the backyard. Gabe provided us with a range of alternatives to help us arrive at a design we loved. Alex and the rest of the crew were able to translate a set of drawings I produced into a beautiful built-in bench that wraps around one end of the new deck. The level of attention paid to every aspect of the project was excellent. We’re very happy with the results and are looking forward to next spring when we’ll get to enjoy this wonderful addition to our home. Everyone at Sage and Stone was a pleasure to work with. Communication was excellent, work progressed quickly, and everything stayed on budget. Highly recommended!

Gabe, Alex, and the crew created an amazing backyard space for our family. We looked at several design/build companies before selecting Sage and Stone because their aesthetic matched what we were looking for in a backyard design. After an initial meeting, Gabe came back with a design that went way beyond our expectations. He doubled the size of our deck, put a roof over the main space so we could entertain all year, raised our sloped lawn and increased the lawn size (our kid will love it in the future), and redesigned our shade garden to incorporate a concrete paver walkway with concrete boulders. Gabe was very amenable to feedback on the design and was also great at pushing us to try some new things. Alex and the crew executed Gabe's design flawlessy. They obviously have been doing this for a long time because they all worked very well together and built exactly what we were expecting. Alex kept us informed of the progress and was always available to answer questions. They genuinely looked like they were enjoying themselves as they worked through the Seattle heat wave of 2017! It was awesome to come home from work and see the progress. Billing and payment was easy and the project finished right on budget and two days early. We're so thrilled with our new space and would recommend Sage and Stone to anyone.

Gabe & his team were amazing to work with. Gabe's quote was very competitive and his communication with us was clear, and his responses to my questions and changes were quick (he's probably one of the best communicators over email). In terms of the project, we had a really uneven lawn with no true usable space, and they totally transformed it! I can't tell you how amazing it feels to be standing on my new patio every day, my husband even enjoys watering the lawn now! Gabe's team showed up on time every day, they were very, very tidy and we had no complaints about any noise issues from the neighbors. They finished the project on time and even gave us a care sheet for the lawn! We couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I'd definitely use the again for any future needs.

We are very happy we had Sage and Stone perform a design/build for our front, back and side yards. The project included 2 decks, a covered patio extension, hardscapes, fencing, irrigation, plants, sod, lighting, 240 volt hot tub wiring, a water feature and a gas fire pit. The project started in early February and completed in late March 2017. We are very happy with the results. Below are some thoughts about working with the Sage and Stone team: DESIGN: Gabe Shulman is a very talented designer and owner. He took our list of desires, combined it with his vision and experience and in doing so, created a wonderful product for us. BUDGET: Gabe was very open and flexible throughout the setting of the budget. After the project started and cost issues arose, Gabe was fair and reasonable. At the completion of the project, we were only 3 percent over budget and that was due to our own upgrades or additions. CONSTRUCTION/ONSITE TEAM: This crew was phenomenal. Leah selected some great plants. Alex did a great job supervising the talented skills of James, Bobby and Alison. This team had worked for the Company for years, it showed in how effectively and efficiently they performed their roles. I also want mention the great job Jimmy did in designing the irrigation system, explaining its operation and finally getting the water feature to operate correctly. POST CONSTRUCTION/FOLLOW UP: This is where the company has proven their commitment to quality customer service. Any large construction project is going to have minor issues surface after the construction/onsite team has departed. Gabe and his team were able to get those issues resolved quickly and efficiently. We would certainly use Sage and Stone again.

Sage and Stone skillfully executed a complete redesign of our backyard, including a new fence, patio, and retaining wall, and we are very happy with the result. We worked with a different company on the design, but Gabe made some thoughtful suggestions that improved the outcome (and in some cases lowered costs). He was always very upfront about any potential impacts to schedule and cost. His management of the project was very professional, and he was very communicative and responsive throughout the project. I highly recommend Sage & Stone.

Sage and Stone did the development work for my recent landscaping project. The previous yard had been destroyed during the tear down and rebuild of my house and what wasn't destroyed was in poor condition so the project involved removing what remained and developing an entire yard. Overall, Sage and Stone did an excellent job as the quality of their work was excellent, they were incredibly professional and easy to interact with especially when there were any issues to solve, and finished the project on time and on budget. The completed yard looks amazing and I couldn't be happier with my experience.

The team from Sage and Stone was spectacular! Kudos go to Leah in particular. She succinctly described the project process and provided a design and cost estimate in a timely manner. The rest of the team implemented the project flawlessly. Sage and Stone gave our front yard a new look. Leah chose a palette of plants she described as "both enduring and low-care". A weeping cedar was planted as a centerpiece. A french drain was installed, basalt rocks adorn the yard slope, and a flagstone walkway was set. Sage and Stone performed in a very professional manner and I highly recommend them.

What can I say??? Well, I can say that Sage and Stone's design, professionalism and finished product exceeded our expectations! We contracted Gabe and his team to jointly landscape our front yard with our neighbors and to build a custom deck in the back with bench seating and a separate customer BBQ build out (complete with concrete countertops) to house my husband's pride and joy - an extra large Green Egg. The work they did is absolutely stunning in both the front and the back yard. Passersby have stopped and commented how beautiful the work is in the front - which includes an amazing fountain custom built from a rock crusher they acquired from a local quarry, a smart design for steps using pavers, and large boulders also acquired from a local quarry. Guests has commented how serene and spa like the entry path is, even going so far as to call it "spa-like" and that is just the beginning. Once the enter our backyard they are amazed at what Gabe and team has done with our backyard - creating a urban sanctuary with the back deck. From the concepting phase where they had creative ideas we were a bit leery of but turned out better than the plan in our head to the execution of the work we were pleased throughout. The team was there everyday rain or shine and was always personable and professional and respectful of our space and privacy while getting the work done. In addition, Gabe was responsive to any questions we had via email or phone along the way, often rearranging his schedule to meet us early before or later after work to answer any questions and walk through the work. In terms of budget they built out a very clear plan throughout and Gabe was always forthright in where we were trending and the expected costs associated so that there were no surprises. We have heard stories from friends and family in the past where they contracted work on their house that just did not come out right or was way over budget or run late so we headed into this work cautiously but we were blown away time and time again and were very happy with our experience. We wholeheartedly recommend working with Sage and Stone if you are looking for beautiful work with a an amazing and trustworthy team!

Gabe and his very personable, hardworking crew transformed our ugly, weed-filled backyard into an absolutely beautiful tranquil space! They did an excellent, professional job with lots of communication and flexibility. Working from our landscape design hardcopy, Gabe incorporated his wealth of knowledge and experience into the final product, paying attention to even the smallest of details, as well as helping us make decisions along the way. The other thing we really appreciated was his crew's respect for our privacy and property while on the job. We hope to have them back next summer to take on our side patio/garden project! Sage and Stone stepped in on our driveway-refurbish-beautification project (we have a lovely Airbnb, and this constitutes our entryway) almost as the last minute, and provided prompt, professional demo and construction of the new design. They came in totally on time and in budget; I might add, the cost was very reasonable. The owner, Gabe, is flexible, knowledgable, upfront with what he can and can not do, and fun. I will happily hire him and his crew for the next phase of our exterior remodel/landscaping project.

Gabe Shulman and his crew at Sage & Stone did a fantastic job on our landscaping. We remodeled our mid-century home in Clyde Hill, WA from the studs up and also re-did nearly all the landscaping on our 1/2 acre property. The work included grading, soil preparation, fencing, stone and gravel placement, irrigation, landscape lighting and plantings. Sage & Stone did excellent work; their crew is professional and hard working and they completed the project on time and on budget. Among the many sub-contractors we worked with on our project I would rate Sage & Stone at the top. We would hire them again and heartily recommend the company.

Gabe and Sage & Stone did a wonderful job. Gabe was very communicative throughout the process, on time an on budget. The crew was respectful and cleaned up nicely and didn't skip a beat despite the winter weather. The final product is better than I imagined and although the garden is young, I appreciate that it was not over planted. It has a lovely feel and great design. A large driveway frontward was transformed to a beautiful trip to the front entrance of the house.

Sage and Stone took my vision and refined it to create a beautiful space and that we love. Our garden has become the number one place to entertain our friends or just enjoy ourselves. It's now filled with color, sound, and light thanks to Gabe's keen understanding about how to make all those elements work together. The workers themselves were prompt, clean, and fast. I really couldn't be happier! It is rare to find people great at their craft and easy to work with. Everyone I interacted with at Sage and Stone was very professional, experienced and upfront. They were friendly and took pride in the results... which by the way, completed exceeded my expectations. I wanted to improve to my backyard, but wasn't sure how to go about designing it. Sage and Stone drafted multiple options for me. We ended up going with a hybrid of their ideas. They were able to reuse parts that they demoed (took old concrete steps, turned them sideways, and used them as part of a retaining wall - very cool) and customized the yard to the needs of my family. The put in a beautifully crafted built in bench, a patio, a new deck, a shed, and lots of fun flourishes (i.e., musical features, a sandbox under the stairs, a secret hide-out for the kids, etc.). My backyard is my new favorite "room" at my house!! In fact, I think it's the new favorite "room" for my friends and neighbors too. I couldn't recommend them more highly.

Excellent artists at Sage and Stone. You'd be foolish not to hire them to redesign your NW yard. Gabe listens and translates well your ideas into a reality that is surprisingly exactly what you asked for. The stone benches he helped procure for us, along with the edible plants and ground cover he added, were the finishing touches that made a small urban backyard into a little piece of heaven. Call Gabe, you won't be disappointed.
