If possible, I would give zero stars. From the onset, there were problems with SBC and it's staff: problems with not following design (designed to be a semi-circle, not an arrow - see photos, Ex. 1) stairs that had to be rebuilt three times, wrong color posts, failed to insert the post sleeve-skirts (Ex. 2), cap stones were not glued (Ex. 3), plants were not properly spaced, major damage to my driveway (Ex. 4), damage to my solar lights, dumping construction waste on my neighbor’s property, and a sales rep who wouldn't return my calls. SBC did not obtain the proper permits for constructing a 4 foot retaining wall (Ex. 5) and didn’t get an engineer’s stamp. The facade of the hardscape developed a major crack months after being built, and again in 2022 (twice within 3 years. See Ex. 6). Today, the entire structure is now bowing and has cracks throughout the wall. SBC designed a flawed hardscape, failed to use the proper materials, and did not build to the proper Howard County standards and specifications. The owner of SBC, Brad Crist, was aware of the flaw and tried to correct this flaw by installing a swale in front of the wall, but the wall continues to crack. The 4 foot retaining wall should have been built with either interlocking patio blocks, blocks with pins, steel reinforcement, and geogrid fabric, NOT 6 inch decorative block. The retaining wall is literally only glued together. Retaining walls have a life of 10 – 20 years. Although the retaining wall and hardscape was installed in 2019, structural problems began within months. This major project came with a 60-month warranty. However, SBC wants to evade its contractual responsibilities and refuses to make repairs. The owner of SBC, Mr. Chris, states there was only a 36 month warranty. It should be noted that a retaining wall has a lifespan of 25-100 years. This hardscape project cost over 30K, and in return, I received sub-par workmanship, poor quality, unprofessional conduct, unethical business practices, and a patio that continues to have structural problems. SBC landscape is Incredible. Great quality install with great locally made products I recommend SBC for Outdoor Patios and Walkways. I go to a lot of job sites and see what other companies don't do correctly. SBC pays attention to details and they don't cut corners. Most of what counts is under your patio ( base work ) SBC does that very well to keep your pavers looking great year after year.
