According to our records, the original landscape contract, signed in May of 2014, was for $17,525.80, not $25,000.
Our designers and landscape architects always consider climate, soil, light, and other conditions when selecting plant materials. The plant material was under our standard warranty. Our warranty terms can be found on our website. Mr. Dent’s warranty term ended in the summer of 2015.
In October 2015 we received an email from Mr. Dent: “Thank you for the excellent service. I’ll be posting some wonderful reviews on Yelp and Angies List in the next few months. You’ve been great.”
In June 2017, we removed 6 junipers and replaced them with 11 arborvitae – no charge. We have no way of knowing exactly when, how, or why the junipers failed. Plants will sometimes fail to thrive for a multitude of reasons.
In 2016, we installed a Techny arborvitae to add to the privacy screen at a cost of $581.63, not $800 as Mr. Dent claims. In late 2017, we noticed the decline and offered to replace the plant. Rather than replace, he accepted a full credit for the tree. In 2019, he contacted us wanting the arborvitae removed. At that point, we informed him there would be a charge for the removal.
In 2017 Mr. Dent signed a Landscape Services contract that included spring clean-up; bi-monthly landscape maintenance; fall clean-up; shrub, perennial, and tree management, fertilization and weed control, as well as aeration, if necessary. The contract price was for $2,288.88.
Our gardeners have four-year degrees in horticulture/design and are trained and certified to manage residential and commercial properties. Southview Design does not perform any service without prior approval. The contract specifically stated how often we would be on the property and what services we would perform. Since the schedule was the same throughout the season, unless the weather prevented us from being there, we were there at the same time every other week. Our crews work long days during the season. Sometimes they take breaks, or handle paperwork in their trucks.
In 2018, due to increased labor costs, the contract price increased from $2288.88 to $3,000. Mr. Dent had every opportunity to consider other service providers, and we are aware he solicited competitive bids before deciding to hire Southview to care for his yard in 2018.
In the spring of 2019, for a variety of reasons, we did not offer to care for his property. During that conversation, he said he had found someone else.
