Ted Carter Inspired Landscapes

This is long overdue. Three years ago, we underwent a complete front yard makeover with Ted Carter and his crew, installing granite and stone walkways, a stone wall and a large selection of bushes, trees and flowers which have completely transformed the appearance of our home. Since then, we have received countless compliments from neighbors and complete strangers will stop and view the lush gardens and walkways. We knew that we wanted to make a transformative change, but we had no idea of what that would be. Enter Ted Carter who articulated his vision of what the space could be, transforming the area into a peaceful, calming beautiful sanctuary. Ted was careful to integrate what the terrain would offer such as sun & shade, wind exposures, native plants, climate and soil grades, plant selection, water availability and even habitats that would support local wildlife (in our case a butterfly garden). Attention to the smallest detail like color, texture, form of plants and material were considered in a painstaking approach. Ted is truly a savant! Equally important was the implementation of his vision by his great team. His crew headed by Harry was very knowledgeable and passionate about their work. Any questions or suggestions were always earnestly addressed. A delight to work with! What was most telling was their reaction to an issue which developed about 2 years later. As a result of the new stone wall, we noticed a potential drainage issue (which actually hadn’t happened yet). Harry and his crew came back two years later and spent 4 days rebuilding the wall to prevent any future potential issues. And, at no cost! The pride of workmanship exhibited by Ted, Harry and his crew was truly exemplary!

We had an incredibly amazing experience with Ted. We have worked with many landscaping experts over the years in the Boston area and in Maine. But Ted is in a completely different league. He truly transformed our entire outdoor space to the point where our entire family wants to be outside all the time. He had a vision different from four other contractors we asked to bid on our project in Maine. His was completely different - it was creative and inspirational and nothing we ever could have imagined. Ted is an exceptional listener - he came back to us in a timely manner, took into account our budget and was respectful. His team (Charlie and the whole team) is meticulous - from outlining costs and tracking spend, to all of the work at our house, to cleaning the yard at the end of the day. His entire staff is delightful and incredibly hard-working. I honestly think they are the MOST productive team of people we have worked with on our house project. Given our primary home is elsewhere, it was important to us to be able to email and call and receive a response - Ted and team do this in a very timely manner. I cannot say enough about Ted Carter - people stop by our house and take pictures of how he transformed our year. Incredibly high quality, stellar craftmanship and customer service off the charts. We will work with Ted on every project we have.

Ted designed our garden over 20 years ago, and has tweaked it a few times since. His original design is still perfect, and is beauitifully suited to our 1848 house. The latest project(October 2020) was to create a small garden on the last part of the property that had never been addressed, a scrubby space under some hemlocks that only had trash cans and a generator. The hemlocks were trimmed up, the ground regraded, the generator concealed behind arborvitae, the area grassed and the beds planted with ferns, astilbe, climbing hydranga, a serviceberry tree and enkianthus. We were also able to repurpose some of the historic granite slabs from our property our property. His crew is very profession and the job was well-organized.

Ted Carter has been our go-to professional for our landscaping needs for over 2 decades . Our first big project was to find a way to give us privacy on 2 sides of our property. Ted redesigned our driveway area and walkway so beautifully that I actually had a few parties there when it was too windy on the side where we usually entertained. The hardscape work was gorgeous . A welcoming curved brick walkway was artfully designed and executed. We were going to put in a plain straight walkway but Ted had other ideas and I am so glad we listened. We also had a stone pillar built with our address on it. Again, beautifully designed and executed. We did this project in stages and year-by-year we saw our privacy increase. Planting choices were perfect with enough variation so that we had evergreens and flowering or colorful ornamentals for 3 seasons. We are currently working with Ted and his colleagues on a home we bought last year. Again, we desire increased privacy, greenery and aesthetics. We would not consider working with anyone but Ted as he has a gentle manner and can masterfully redirect us or suggest other options that may work better than what we were considering. We are eager to begin Phase 2 of our project in the spring. I know that the plan that Ted has drawn up will look just as lovely in reality as it does on paper.

I had the pleasure of working with Ted Carter and his design team. Ted offered a perfect landscaping plan for the area we needed help with. We worked together making slight changes to the original plan and I now have the perfect landscaped area. Working with Ted Carter of Ted Carter Inspired Landscapes was a wonderful experience. We could not be more pleased with the result. We have lived in our home in Bremen, Maine for two years (the house is 30 years old.) The lot is shady with lots of big trees. While there were some perennial borders close to the house, the lot was bare and stark. We had done some hardscape work but wanted to create an understory of smaller trees and shrubs. After an initial discussion by phone, Ted came and spent a few hours on the land listening to us and making suggestions. He sent a rough design sketch and plant list and said his crew could do the installation in one day. It was amazing. Ted understood exactly what we wanted, the crew were hard-working, fast, and attentive to detail. They transformed our property in one day. We now have interesting, intimate outdoor spaces. It is all we wanted – seasonal interest, varied shade-tolerant shrubs, hardy perennials, and low-maintenance.

He is very attentive throughout the entire process, he has a great team who implement his design with care and he works with the best people in the industry. Ted Carter and his entire team are very professional and thorough. They come to the job on schedule and on time, they work diligently to complete the installation, and then they follow up afterward to assure that everything was completed as planned and to our satisfaction. In our case, they did a complete landscaping design and installation last year, and then this year they came back to complete additional installations that we wanted. We know that we can count on them to follow through and assure our satisfaction.

Ted has been wonderful to work with! He came up with ideas for our yard that we never would have thought of. He presented the plans in a very detailed and organized way. He was thoughtful, very knowledgeable, and creative. He was open to what we wanted and liked, and incorporated that into his plans. He was even able to make our trampoline fit well in our yard! We had a very unique and challenging space to work with in our backyard, and he transformed it into a beautiful, usable area. He was prompt with answering our calls and emails. I liked how he gave us phases to do the landscaping, so we could do what we could afford and not go over budget. We have only completed phase one, so we're not finished yet! We will continue to use him and recommend him highly!

Ted and his team are amazing!! I've had the pleasure of working with them now on two properties and getting ready for our third. The first two involved beach front and a creative way to blend and bring privacy. It's magical and stunning! The trees, plantings and flowers were planned so we would have different pops of color thoughout the year. We are a magnate for monarch butterflies and doing our part to save the bees. Like us, the tourists & local residents are in awe of what has been created. Masterful!

Ted Carter and his team completed the redesign and implementation of my dream backyard. His vision, creativity and enthusiasm was surpassed only by his integrity of his end product. I strongly recommend him!

After spending years re-doing the interior of our home it was finally time to tackle the yard yet both my husband and I were burnt out from projects that dragged on, went way over budget and contractors who always seem to over-promise. Thankfully our experience with Ted Carter couldn't have been more different. Ted helped us whip our urban yard in to shape by creating gorgeous gathering spots, a colorful and interesting perennial garden, natural privacy barriers and a fantastic custom fire pit. The process from planning to installing was smooth and speedy - work was completed on schedule (what a concept!), Ted's employees were friendly and professional and most importantly, the finished project is just what we wanted. I can't recommend Ted highly enough!
