Ted Weiant

I recently hired Ted to clean up and redo my garden. He took care of the clean up and trimming, left a hefty bill for the work and disappeared. He implied that he had another job in Malibu. So there I am looking again for a landscaper. I had found Ted on the Houzz site.

The Project I recently bought a beautiful large property that was in desperate need of landscaping-- The entire yard was dirt and weeds, and it has its problem of being on a relatively busy street. Ted was referred to me from one of the landscapers that I requested an estimate from. He said he would love to do the work, but he knew of an landscape designer that "Thought out of the Box." and that he would probably be able to turn my run down land into a work of art. I met Ted and within a few weeks he had come up with a design for every area of the property which included a beautiful soccer field for my sons, a basketball court that was able to keep trees worked into the border of the design, and a planter/ fire pit outdoor dining area that leads to stone steps down to the pool area that he has lined with palm trees. However his true magnificence has revealed itself in the side yard. It is a large craftsman house with stone pillars and he designed an amazing tree well with a waterfall that flows into a rock stream that runs through an amazing garden of spectacular plants. In my neighborhood it is absolutely one of a kind and I have people stop by to take pictures regularly and his work has even inspired neighbors to try to copy his style. I have referred Ted to admirers more times than I can count. Ted's strengths Ted has always been available for everything that I need, he is just a phone call away. Along with being available, his other strengths are of course his amazing creativity- for example placing a tree in just the right place so that the reflection can be seen in the water at just the right angle. Each area of the various yards have their own feel so the property feels like it has a number of different "rooms" for activities. Additionally, I have specified my personal desires and he has tried to incorporate all of my personal needs by taking me shopping with him to get my feed back at every turn. Finally, what I really like about Ted is that he can work well with others, but he will not back down from his vision. Since this has been a large project, we have worked with a few different companies for installing various items. One one occasion, both Ted and I felt strongly that we wanted something that the contracted worker was against because it was something that he had never done before, but Ted stood his ground and patiently re-stated our needs over and over and drew plans for making it work and yes in the end we got exactly what we desired. I think someone else may have either turned the disagreement into a bad ending or backed down. I cannot say enough good things about Ted. His price is great and he will create something that is original, efficient and unique to your needs. I would re-hire him for any job that I have and I will continue to refer him to everyone.

Our newly remodeled home with its contemporary feel and typical rectangular patches of grass felt cold and boring. Our contractor recommended Ted Weiant. It was the best investment we could have made, he transformed our property. He is an amazing landscape designer and a true artist. Our landscape is mostly drought tolerant but looks incredibly lush. Ted has unique ideas and uses interesting plant specimens. He pays special attention to detail and is incredibly easy to work with. He has a top-notch crew. We highly recommend him!!!

In three separate stages, Ted Weiant helped us transform a pool area, streetscape/entry walkway, and then backyard. Each project had its challenges, including constraints that we imposed, and each was quite different in scope and resources required. Ted rose to each challenge with patience, experience and a resilient wealth of creativity. He also chooses sub contractors who, to a person, were knowledgeable, pleasant, thorough and cared about the quality of their work. Ted cares very much about the people who will live in the spaces he creates. I've seen several of his completed projects and ours is distinctly different. Many landscape designers have a particular look that they adapt to each project. Ted begins with a blank page and gets to know the client and property before letting the ideas flow.

What can I say? Ted has turned what I once called my backyard into what I now call my haven. He is a joy to work with and brings passion, humor and a collaborative spirit to every project, no matter how simple or grand. Everyone who comes to my home is inspired by the landscape...it's a favorite gathering place! Ted's work is also environmentally progressive. He has helped me to appreciate native plantings which are both beautiful and drought tolerant. Ted's vision for our yard was pure genius. We had four other landscape designers give us their ideas before we hired Ted. His was by far the most inspirational plan and divided the yard into three separate but contiguous planned use areas. This made our back yard much more useful. The choice of plants and patio materials all blended into a masterpiece of design. Ted used as much of the existing yard material as possible, thereby holding down the cost of replacement of the old patio and landscape stones and other items. Friends who knew what the back area looked like before and then afterwards were amazed at how much more useful and beautiful our patio has been transformed. I would and have recommended Ted to many of our friends and every one who hired him has become a fan and has reaped the benefit of his vision and genius.

Over the past 4 years, Ted Weiant's team has landscaped almost every square foot of our residential property in the Lake Hollywood area. We are transforming the outdoor space from water-guzzling legacy plants to more ecologically responsible cactus, succulents and stones, at the rate of 1 or 2 projects per year. The key reasons we have stayed with Ted are that he is a walking encyclopedia of plants and trees, is remarkably client friendly (puts up gracefully with a lot of grousing and plan changes), and brings actual creative ideas to the task. We do not always agree on the approach, but it is fun to collaborate because Ted ultimately has the knowledge and experience to work with challenging project parameters and cranky clients! We recommend Ted without reservation.
