The Foxy Garden

Audrey replaced my neglected brown front lawn (a casualty of the drought) with a Zen minimalist garden of 3 Japanese maple trees as the focal point surrounded by vibrant shrubs and seasonal ground covering. My neighbors and even a gardener have been complimenting me on the new landscape. My HOA wanted this front yard eyesore gone in 30 days. Audrey came to the rescue and met my needs beyond expectation. My communications with Audrey was easy and entirely via email. I sent her pictures and dimensions so she did not have to do a site visit at a location that is 30 miles away. I highly recommend Audrey at the Foxy Garden if you need a quick simple elegant colorful landscape design.

I'm thrilled with the garden Audrey designed for me. She tailored it to my particular tastes in color and style (I like a lot of flowers), and it is gorgeous. For years I'd struggled to design the garden myself, but it just never came together, so Audrey used some of my existing plants and created a design that realized what I had long been trying to do. It flows beautifully, has a very interesting color palette, and gives me pleasure every time I walk up to my front door. On top of that, I really enjoyed working with Audrey. She's professional, kind, and fun to talk to. You'll love her and her work!

We'd been in love with Audrey's work for many years in our neighborhood without knowing who was behind it. Audrey worked hard to understand our goals, budget, and values (natives!! edibles!!). Her design process using hand drawn top-down views of the garden helped us section our 1000 sq into 5 or 6 different zones that are cozy and relaxing. This is benefit of working with a professional, Audrey really knew how to carve our harshly rectangular space into organic zones that flow together, and are beautiful! Despite needing to hire a separate contractor, I have no regrets about two separate contracts. Audrey was able to find a wonderful contractor for us who also shared our values for sustainable landscaping (paper, not plastic landscaping fabric; no extra material went to the landfill) and brought some wonderful touches of their own. We would highly recommend Audrey for any residential landscaping project where a small space needs to be both beautiful and functional.

Audrey has phenomenal design skills and a total grasp of plants that will work well for whatever criteria you specify - low water, low maintenance, hardiness, etc etc. She designed our original garden over 10 years ago and had to manage 4 different co-owner personalities with 4 different goals for the garden - hardscape-forward, softscape-forward, sun lovers, sun haters etc. What a challenge! And to top it off some of the co-owners had some pretty odd requirements, for example, save broken-down concrete in one section because it had been there so long they felt it belonged there, sort of like ruins. Of course with criteria like that, two garden designers had already quit but The Foxy Garden came through with an amazing design that all who see it compliment. Fast forward, after over 10 years of pretty bad neglect (mow-and-blow gardener who did not maintain the plants), we asked for a thorough refresh of the plants and The Foxy Garden delivered. The garden is once again lovely and the envy of all who see it. And most important, all four owners are happy.

Working with Audrey was great. We first talked to a different landscape architect, and they didn't seem to understand what we were looking for/ seemed to be pushing for a larger unnecessary scope. Audrey was a great listener, and tailored her scope to exactly what we needed. She took our general design ideas and transformed them into a wonderful planting plan. We've worked with Audrey on multiple occasions – about 10 years ago to completely redo our garden (it was a big nothing!), for ongoing recommendations, and most recently to do a refresh of many plants and create a hang-out space in the back using repurposed wood from our no-longer-needed treehouse (which was part of the original redo). She has the BEST ideas, a keen eye for making beautiful outdoor spaces and is a pleasure to work with. Our garden is the best room in our house! We're recommended her to many friends who have also been thrilled with the outcome. This last go round, I told Audrey I didn't even need to be very involved in decisions – I trust her implicitly to make great plant selections, place them expertly and create a space that is welcoming and beautiful. For about three years I had been thinking of converting my thirsty front lawn to drought tolerant. Recently I interviewed a few landscaping designers, but we didn't really "click". Then I interviewed Audrey who understood what I had in mind and with her artistic talent created a design I never could have imagined. Her use of hardscape complements the plants and adds another dimension. She was able to keep within my budget and the results are stunning. I even have had a few people ask for a referral.

We are still in the middle of our project, but have made several attempts to work with landscape designers previously, and Audrey has surpassed them all. She is creative, and wonderful to work with. Her contractors have also been great to work with and are remarkably fast. She has carried our interior style into our backyard in order to create a truly fluid and functional inside/outside environment. Can not wait to see the completed project. Will post photos!

Audrey was the best garden designer to work with! She was so thoughtful and creative when faced with our challenging project (a small plot where we wanted to fit many different elements, including a guinea pig hutch, large trampoline, hot/cold tubs and dining area). She came up with so many creative ideas to make the space multifunctional so a little room went a long way! She's also just a pleasure to work with - calm, kind, extremely ethical and super smart. Audrey did a fantastic job helping us redesign our front and back yard spaces. We were really starting with a blank slate -- a weedy, bare yard and a desire to replace it with something other than lawn. She helped us think about our needs -- kid-friendly, low maintenance, and staying in budget -- and how to design something suited to some challenging site conditions (windy and foggy spot, wanting to be drought-tolerant, needing to deal with the weeds) in San Bruno. She also connected us with a great contractor to implement and stayed in touch to help us identify any needed plant or materials replacements given the vagaries of pandemic supply chains. Audrey did an excellent job with the design of our backyard. She is knowledgeable, listened well, and delivered a design reflecting what we were looking for. The entire process was well organized, with documentation with pictures and plant information that enabled us to make decisions with our choices. The gardeners were able to follow her detailed planting plan to a tee and did a wonderful job.

The landscaping of our front and back-yard was the last thing remaining to restore the dilapidated fixer-upper we bought to the Grand Arts & Crafts home of 1912. I was looking for a local landscape designer and came across Audrey's web site and liked what I saw. When we met we immediately clicked and she knew what I wanted before I did. She understood my style. Audrey is patient, professional, easy to work with, and makes sure things are done well. Her design for the lay-out of our garden is gorgeous. She came up with a wonderful idea for the pond, which is the center of our garden in back, and made it flow with the planting beds and the gravel paths. We selected plants that grow well in our climate and she grouped them depending on color, water needs, plant structure, ... I enjoy gardening and whenever I am in our front garden I receive compliments from passers-by. We don't have a "yard" anymore, it is a beautiful GARDEN, and last but not least, it is easy to maintain! Audrey is a wonderful person to work with and I highly recommend her to realize your dream garden.

Audrey was patient and meticulous as she worked to understand what we were looking for, while allowing us to change as things developed. She provided a personal catalogue of plants that she thought we would enjoy given our preferences and also would thrive given our location and was extremely creative with the containers she brought forward. I hired The Foxy Garden to design and install a front house garden when we moved in to our new home. I was family with her work from a friend's house (a phenomenal backyard remodel) and from the years of work she did at a public elementary school in San Francisco. Audrey has an incredibly creative vision and had wonderful suggestions for my project. I can't wait to work with her again.

Audrey designed and supervised a gorgeous redo of my small SF garden last year. The project was intended as a gift to my terminally ill partner. Audrey worked with us to create a peaceful, tropical-feeling , super private refuge for my island obsessed wife. She did a fantastic job of choosing materials and finishes for the hardscape and walls such that the garden feels like an extension of the house remodel we completed 2 years prior. She helped us to understand what we liked about our existing garden and did a great job of keeping the few mature trees we really loved while completely reworking the rest of the plants. One of the things I most appreciated was how well she explained her choices and vision to me as an inexperienced gardener. Her knowledge of plants is extensive and as is her understanding of SF microclimates. She also has professional experience as a craftswoman. She worked closely with local artisans to create built-ins including a long modern bench and a sleeping/performance platform custom sized to fit two cellists. Audrey’s aesthetic is a delightful blend of modern and funky. She worked within our budget and timeline. A year later the garden is filled in and beautiful. She has continued to advise me on care and maintenance. I highly recommend her as a landscaper.

After a lengthy search I hired Audrey for landscape design. Our back was a weedy mess and in need of transformation. Audrey and The Foxy Garden are a delight to work with! Audrey is extremely creative and excellent at problem solving. She did an incredible makeover job of our tiny backyard in Oakland that was filled with nothing but a series of sheds, turning it into an cozy haven filled with bamboo, drought tolerant plants, and a gorgeous patio using reclaimed concrete pavers and bricks. Everyone that visits raves about how beautiful and secluded it feels—and in the middle of urban Oakland! The best part was working with Audrey on selecting the plants. Clearly this is her passion and I was excited to learn from her. Choosing plants for small spaces can be tricky but I absolutely love ALL of the plants Audrey chose. I would hire Audrey again anyday......I give her my highest recommendation.

I loved working with Audrey of The Foxy Garden. I wanted a drought resistant, all native California plant garden and within a specified budget. She delivered 100% on my needs and desires. My husband and I are both artists and many of our cast off creations littered our backyard. Audrey integrated them into the design of the garden in a brilliant way. Since she is an artist herself she is excellent at creating visual surprises that make an outdoor space incredibly stimulating and intriguing. She worked and communicated very well with subcontractors who also did excellent work. I would definitely love to work with The Foxy Garden again and highly recommend her company from design phase through to the finished reality. Audrey and Foxy Garden are FANTASTIC!! I met Audrey with her dog and soon to be husband about 13 years ago. I got the opportunity to work with Audrey on the design and implementation of my garden almost 8 years ago. From the start, it was dreamy. She is so creative without being over-bearing; it's a true collaboration. She liked most of my ideas and built on them. I feel the result was better then anything either of us could have done alone. AND she's so funny! We laugh until we cry sometimes. I also get the pleasure of meeting her 2 dogs and lovely daughter. Okay, so she lives around the corner from me. But even if she didn't I would enjoy her every trip to consult or maintain. She's a gem. And I've recommended her to 2 or 3 other clients who believe her to be as special as I do.

Audrey at the Foxy Garden is amazing. We are a condo with major personality differences, each owner wanted a different sort of yard. Several professionals before her could not solve our differences. Audrey stepped in and not only gave everybody what they wanted, but created an amazing yard that gets complimented by virtually all who step into it. She was thoughtful about plantings and used mostly native plants to ensure water use would be low after the first few years. She now maintains our garden and it is lovely and thriving.
