Unique Landscapes and Custom Pools

I can’t recommend Unique Landscapes enough! Chris, Bart, Sal and the whole crew worked tirelessly to make sure our backyard was perfect. We’ve had a few hiccups and they stand behind their work!

We highly recommend Unique Landscapes and Custom Pools. We wanted to create a resort like setting out of our back door. This required demo of an old pool and scraping all but a few trees to dirt. We also wanted help designing and engineering a new pool, extensive travertine stone patios, Vegas casino-like cabanas, electrical, plumbing, drainage and sprinklers, and then the single point accountability to get it all built as designed. Unique's CAD design work by Chris T was exceptional, and he patiently worked every detail of every feature and product (cabanas, outdoor shower, grills, sinks, etc). Then their engineering team created comprehensive and detailed construction and engineering drawings, and edited them until we had every detail where it needed to be. Unique's project management then coordinated getting us HOA approval and county permits. Finally the construction began and we were thrilled and amazed at the skill and attention to detail of every crew, despite COVID caused delays. And pleased that Bart assured every crew implemented our designs, and got the help they needed when the inevitable challenge arose. Lastly, after this amazing resort was built the service team has been very responsive to every need, to getting us techs, and even having the pebbletech contractor redo the acid wash to get a better finish. Exceptional attention to details, very open and communicative at every step, and very responsive to every ask. THANK YOU.

They did a beautiful, professional job. We couldn't have asked for a better result! Silver travertine trim, Cadet Blue pebble finish with abalone shells make the pool sparkle. Noble Tile in Bering Strait, Noble Tile step mosaics in Selene. Parascope configurable fountains on the baja step. Swim lane on one end. They integrated the pool into our existing landscape so it looked as though it was always there. My handy husband installed the artwork on the pool wall - used matching travertine - look ceramic tile behind the artwork and waterline tile, which was created by the "It's Cactus" online store, moldings and trim from Home Depot and Lowe's.

Unique did an amazing job of bringing our design to life. We love how everything came together and now have a beautiful space to use all year round. I will say the project did take longer than expected, but many of the delays were related to general industry delays due to COVID. The finished project was well worth the delays

Our transaction with this company was really poor. It's a shame it went the way it did. The Unique Sales guy came to our house and built out a beautiful pool with everything we wanted - 52k... After the CONTRACT went to the engineer team, they stated that many items in the drawing were not included in the contract. They refused to honor the drawing and what their sales guy promised. We decided to part ways with the company and asked for our deposit back because it was their errors that led us to cancel. They claimed it was a "Wrongful Termination" and refused to give us the deposit. We are bummed. We wanted to do the project with them and had 25k in future projects planned with them but at the end of the day, we cannot work with a company that will not take responsibility for their mistakes.

During 2019 I had invested more than $21,619 for artistic pavers to be installed around my pool and during March of 2020 the water feature they installed sprung a leak. Immediately after that leak I had some shifting of the artistic pavers. NOW Chris from Unique Pools will not honor the 2-year warranty that is still in effect. I had invested more than $ 65,710 for a pool and pavers and this is how they show their respect for customers. I have dealt with a multitude of professional companies that build their business on customer satisfaction and this is NOT one of them. Just AMAZING how one can spend so much hard-earned money on improving their home, backyard, and the value of their community ONLY to get a big fat ZERO in action to fix this problem. This has been a total NIGHTMARE! The pictures are of the artistic pavers that the repair guy did not put back in place in March and this has not been fixed (Sept 2020).

Our experience with Unique has been a nightmare. Upon installation 2 years ago we had immediate issues with both the interior of the pool and a leak, neither of which Unique has fixed. A brand new pool is supposed to be an exciting time, and unfortunately ours has just caused heartache and regret. I would recommend going with a more accountable pool builder, Unique is not a risk worth taking.

These guys are great. They went above and beyond to design and build a back yard that is the envy of the neighborhood. From the pool, BBQ, pergola and fire pit, everything is high quality and professionally installed. You cannot get a better pool and landscape contractor.

Confirmed onsite consult scheduled - no show. I attempted to call the Senior Designer I had been in contact with for the last two weeks via email with no luck.

My wife and I couldn't be happier with the choice of Unique Pools and Landscapes for our full backyard remodel! Here are the reasons why. Professional, not at all pushy We were referred to Unique's owner, Chris Griffin, by our neighbor. We've always loved their backyard and when it came time for us to do ours, we knew we at least wanted to see what Chris had to offer. Chris really knows his stuff and he took the time to educate us on all the available options and whether or not he thought they would be beneficial to us. Everyone has an idea of what their perfect backyard would be. It's Chris's job to help fit that into a budget. Chris and I spent a great deal of time working to make sure the features we selected would work well in our project. He was also able to suggest some cool ideas I hadn't even thought of. He also listened to some things I suggested (routing the mist system with soft water, to decrease build up on the nozzles) and was ultimately able to bring them to life in the final design. At no point during this process did I feel like I was bothering Chris. He would return emails / texts very promptly (sometimes at all hours!). I also never felt like Chris was trying to "sell me something". We would talk about features and he would present the pros and cons. The decision was always left up to me and Chris was good either way. Once we saw the 3D design Chris put together, we knew we were in good hands. This was not a cookie cutter design. He really listened to us, used some existing features in the backyard and maximized the space extremely well. Pool Construction (Like a machine!) Once we started construction, I was introduced to Donny (Pool superintendent) and Charles (Project Manager). Charles sent out an email with the outline to get the project up to shotcrete. There isn't much variation to this schedule as each phase can't proceed until the prior one is done. If one phase happened to take a day longer, I would get an email from Charles letting me know. I never had to wonder what was happening next. I never felt in the dark. Charles was also great in answering / replying to emails. I would almost always get a reply before he left for the day, or first thing when he arrived the following morning. Although I didn't see Donny much during this phase (it runs so smoothly he's not required to be present much), I did get to spend time with him at the end as we started up the pool. He is very knowledgeable and also always responded to emails / texts very promptly. It's very comforting to know when you have an issue, you'll get a response very quickly. Landscape For me, this was the most exciting part of our project. Chris came up with an amazing design that included a couple shade structures, beautiful deck, lighting, sound system, bbq / bar, fireplace, etc. It was Jay's job to bring all of this to life. Aside from Chris, I had the most interaction with Jay. I can't say enough good things about Jay. He was always on top of things. In addition to answering questions anytime I asked, he would make suggestions along the way to tweak a design or two for the better. He was also always in touch with Chris, so the two of them were always on the same page if anything was changed. Jay was on site multiple times per week. He knew exactly what was going on and he would inspect any work that had just been done, to make sure it was up to his expectations. Jay would also be at the city inspections so he could answer any questions or point out anything the inspector was missing. While we did fail some inspections (completely normal), it was never for anything major and was always corrected by the follow up inspection. Final thoughts When Chris said he wanted us to be comfortable with the 3D design because "that's how your backyard will look", he wasn't joking! The final product is amazing and we couldn't be happier. The best part is, looking back, I wouldn't change a thing. I really feel this is because we took the right amount of time in planning the project. I hear so many companies go from first meeting, to construction within a couple of weeks. You are just asking for problems and second thoughts going this route. If you are reading this review, you are looking at Unique because you're considering a large job. Take the time to get it right. If you're looking for the common thread in this review, it's COMMUNICATION! I can't stress this enough. If you choose Unique, you will not feel like you are alone or in the dark! They go out of their way (from the office staff, to the superintendents, to the owner) to make sure you are constantly up to date. You won't be wondering "when is the next crew going to show up" or "nobody has been out here in a week or two". This piece of mind was huge for us. My neighbor, who recommended Unique, had their pool done 7 years ago and they still have great communication with Chris. I have no doubt we will too!

We did a major backyard remodel with Unique landscapes on an acre lot. Chris is an "upfront and get things done" type of a personality, but not pushy. We had quite a few changes during the build and Chris never gave us a hard time. He just got them done. His pricing is very fair and we had people working constantly for 6 months. The job was completed about 4 months ago. Since then we had a few minor issues (grill burner broke and a plant died) Chris was just as responsive to fix these problems as he was during the build. I could not be happier with my experiences and would be happy to share them with anyone who would like to know more about our remodel.

We are in the midst of a complete backyard installation which includes a pool, fire pit, grill area and tons of travertine! We are so pleased, I just had to jump in and type up this review! What's most impressive so far is the way the crews have stayed on schedule and how diligently they get their work done. They actually seem quite happy and you get the sense that their employer takes good care of them!! Very impressed!! I am so glad we chose Unique for our project! Can't wait til it's all done!!

With a newly constructed home, I asked Unique Landscapes to provide a plan to convert my yard of dirt into a beautiful landscape that we could enjoy and be a source of pride for entertaining. Our project consisted of a large water feature plus cooking area, fire pit, and artificial turf. We were impressed with the coordination of the project from design to completion. The workers were courteous and respectful, and the communication tools that Unique provides throughout the entire effort was very helpful. We are delighted with our results.

Unique Landscapes completed a large and lengthy pool remodel and complete landscape project on our acreage in Scottsdale. Steve Brozzo who was very experienced and knowledgeable was a great help and spent plenty of time with the initial design layout and budgeting for the project while Juan Yepiz successfully coordinated all the activities including demo and construction throughout the project. There were many more professionals, individuals, administration and groups within the Unique roster that contributed highly from Engineering and CAD design through to all the hard working hands-on individuals who actually put it all together. Even Chris Griffin the owner was out on several occasions providing vision, insight and expertise. All in all, Chris and Unique Landscapes delivered what they promised despite all the unexpected difficulties, delays and challenges.

Mike Trail has been amazing throughout our whole process. I could tell from my very first phone conversation with him that we were going to really like working with him and Unique. We did our homework and met with 5 different pool companies and Mike stood out from the very beginning. He has been available to us throughout the whole process, answers questions in a timely manner, returns calls, and most importantly, he follows through. Mike listened to our vision and created the most beautiful design for our backyard. We were looking for that "wow" and "unique" factor in our project and Mike made it happen! As with any large project, minor mistakes or issues will arise and Mike handled all of them professionally and with OUTSTANDING customer service. I can't say enough great things about Mike and Unique! You have completely transformed our backyard and we couldn't be happier. We are so proud to show off it off! This amazing company landscaped our front yard, backyard, remodel our pool, and extended our patio using the most beautiful travertine. They listened to our wishes and implemented them beautifully. This company exceeded my expectations. The project began and completed on time; there were no budget overages and I am delighted with the finished product. This outdoor kitchen adds to the functionality of my backyard and also makes it much more visually appealing! Their crews displayed a strong work ethic; they were prompt, professional and clearly skilled. The supervisor was always available, responsive and obviously well-suited for his role as a leader/manager and technical consultant.

I have had many opportunities to work with Chris and several folks from his sales team on many of their projects over the past six years. I am the FX Luminaire Sales Manager for AZ. FX is a manufacturer of low voltage landscape lighting and lighting control systems. " Exceeded our expectations" and " Better than I had envisioned" are the two comments I hear most often from homeowners on Chris's projects. Unique Landscapes attention to detail is second to none and their workmanship is amazing.

Last month we had Unique Landscapes do some work for us. This is our second engagement with them. In 2006 we had Unique Landscapes remove grass areas, provide new edging and install artificial turf in our front yard. We also had them help design, engineer and install our entire backyard. They installed a paver walkway and patio, a hot tub was installed ( they half sunk the hot tub and the above ground portion was placed into a block wall that was stuccoed and flagstone was placed on top of the block. They installed a gas fire pit made of block that was stuccoed and flagstone on top. They also installed a seating wall made of block and flagstone. They built an outdoor kitchen out of stuccoed block, travertine tile and flagstone that included 2 storage drawers, 1 access panel, 2 cabinet doors, 1 outdoor sink, 1 outdoor refrigerator, 1 (6) burner natural gas grill with rotisserie, 1 side burner, 1 counter mounted grill light. They built a pergola over the entire outdoor kitchen and seating area. The end of the kitchen counter is a lighted cantilever. They installed a stuccoed block retaining wall with flagstone top. They also built a stuccoed block wall around my air conditioners. They installed landscape lighting, irrigation drip and plants/trees. Their craftsmanship, professionalism, flexibility and communication with us through the entire project was second to none. Last month we hired them again to install new drip lines in our front yard, remove a fountain, install new lighting/more lighting in the front and back yards, install a paver patio in the front yard, engineer better drainage and add more plants/trees. We also had them remove the hot tub ( my wife and I ended up not using as much as we thought we would when we had them install it in 2006). Our second experience was very similar to the first experience. The only major difference was the use of technology. Unique Landscapes gave me a website I could log into to check the progress of the design, and implementation of the project. As always I was able to call and reach my foreman/designer, but it was another tool to validate my wishes/thoughts were being perceived by Unique correctly. When Unique started our projects they worked every weekday until my project was completed. I worked with Chris and Eric from Unique. I recommend both of them.

I had the opportunity to work with Chris from Unique from the start of our project. From the design phase, through construction, and the end result, we have been very pleased with how Unique made sure to keep us in the loop on the project as well as show us all the different components of our new backyard. Our backyard started bare and stayed bare for about a year and a half since moving into our new home. We thought about just doing the minimal for quite some time until we did some research on different landscaping companies in Arizona. This is where we decided that Unique was who we were going to go with as the results we saw in there published photos were amazing. We ended up doing desert landscape with some artificial grass, fire pit and pavers. I also had Unique install a custom BBQ and countertop bar as well. These all turned out just how we had planned. Hi, Our home has a large backyard for the Phoenix area- about 1/2 acre. It was dirt and weeds for the first 3 years we lived there. We decided it was time to put in a yard- not just any yard but one to be proud of. After interviewing several pool designers/landscapers, we decided that Unique was the best suited and most capable. We made the right choice. Construction began on time and ended on time. Our pool is a masterpiece with a lazy river flowing around an island. A short walk across a bridge takes you to the island's hot tub. The tub cascades into the main pool. The ramada, built to shade some of the shallow end, was designed to match Tuscan aspects of the main house. Our lawn and landscaping look wonderful also. During our first party (high school graduation last May) we commonly heard "your backyard is beautiful" and " do you rent out your yard for weddings". In conclusion, we are happy and we recommend Unique. We chose the right company. DS

Unique Landscapes and Custom pools did my entire pool and landscape design and construction for our half acre property and to this day I wouldn't change a thing. As an Architect I pay particular attention to construction quality and I can honestly say in my 20 plus years of practice I have never worked with a company that has paid this much attention to detail. Their customer service has also been awesome, even to this day they are very helpful with any questions that I've had. I could not recommend them any more highly for any pool or landscape project no matter how big it is.

Overall excellent experience with Unique! Started with a few companies and narrowed it down to Unique Landscapes & Custom Pools because they did it all. The 3D design that Steve at Unique showed us was amazing, and we were sold immediately. Although it took about 6 weeks to get started (maybe the only con), it was worth the wait. I understand they had HOA approval, and permitting to get through Arizona which we hadn't had to deal with in our home state of Wisconsin. The total construction was done in about 5 weeks, which we thought was amazing for what got done. Our winter months will now be spent in one of the best yards in Anthem, AZ! Couldn't say enough good things about the guys at Unique.

Working with Steve and the team was a great experience. What unique showed from the computer generated drawing was exactly how the finished designed turned out, but better. Keeping us updated during the construction process was very helpful since we weren't present during construction. The job from start to finish was professional and painless. Suggestions were made along the way which didn't add a lot of money to the project. Warranty work has been handled quickly and professionally. We highly recommend using Unique Landscape and Custom Pools.

Complete rebuild of yard : paver-stone driveway, cinderblock stucco walls, replace old pool with new pool, spa/hot tub with built-in fireplace, travertine decking, built-in barbecue, pergola, ramada with TV viewing area, fire pit, outdoor ceiling heaters, plant selection and placement, and outdoor lighting. Project duration was 10 to 12 months. Likes: strong design services; handled HOA (Boulders), town (Carefree) and other planning/regulatory inspections and approvals in good and timely manner; responsive to issues arising during construction; friendly hard-working crews; good quality workmanship; and stayed within budget. Dislikes: Hot tub is not of quality we are used to - perhaps lesser quality was installed to stay within budget - the hot tub lacks sophisticated controls and lighting; wiring for some of the outdoor lighting has required remedial work.

I can say the team at Unique not only met, but exceeded my expectations. They were knowledgable, creative, courteous, and clean. The project looks beautiful and my kids and freinds are immensely enjoying the backyard! I would highly recommend Unique for any landscape construction project!
