Urban Oasis Landscape Design

My wife and I contracted with Urban Oasis after getting other quotes. UO was not the low bidder but was chosen on the basis of a more comprehensive presentation and summary of charges. We asked that our small back yard on a slope to our nearest neighbor be made into a courtyard. We needed help understanding our choices for walls vs fences. We paid for and got a clever design which was better than what I had imagined. The project was about $70,000 and it was important for it to be within budget. It was on time and within budget. The carpentry, stonework, design, and plant choices and installation were all top notch. The workmen were always professional and they pay attention to detail. There was necessary coordination with a sprinkler contractor and a iron worker (custom gate). It was handled well, too. My highest praise. Professional. Competent. Honorable. I would hire them again, and I am happy to recommend them to you.

In August 2012 I hired this company to tackle a very difficult, unkempt site. Challenges included an unattractive front entry, graceless perennial beds, steep slope, shade, and a high concentration of deer. Nevertheless, Urban Oasis transformed the front into a welcoming entry with new hardscape and plantings of deer resistant material. In addition they attacked the slope by cleaning out overgrown shrubs and weeds. They planted the slope with clumping bamboo, which the deer don’t eat and has the added benefit of providing additional privacy. I have had friends—and passer byes—comment on my property’s transformation. When I look out my window, I am content.

I supplement my prior 5 star review of Urban Oasis to note that Jenni Bakshi has been readily available to help with the upkeep and maintenance of the curbside landscaping project which she had overseen a few years ago. The project grows and evolves each year.

Jenny completely transformed the front of my home with her talent and designs. I rarely used my front door before I found her. My house is French, and when she first came over she brought with her a stack of photography books for me to peruse to see what I was drawn to. The whole front yard was ripped out. She talked us into a beautiful curved stone path from the sidewalk to the front door, and the same stone as a patio in front of the house. She showed me the images of these patios in front of french homes. The plants we chose are lovely, welcoming and warm. Jenny couldn't have been easier to work with. She was on site whenever work was being done. Jenny is enthusiastic, extremely knowledgable, and fun to work with.

We hired Urban Oasis Landscape Design to completely redesign and plant our back and front yards. Her design was brilliant. She creatively overcame the limitations of our site and proposed an inspired design that met all the needs and goals we'd discussed. She was responsive and easy to work with. All work was done in a timely matter. The crew she worked with did a superb job on the stonework (terrace, patio, and paths) and creation of planting beds. Though we are pleased with the rest of the hardscaping (pergola and shed), the details were not entirely specified ahead of time, and I have regrets about a few aspects of the construction. The costs ended up being a little higher than we expected, but overall we were very satisfied with their work.

Jennifer Bakshi designed and coordinated the landscaping of our front yard and entry, where views of the gardens from inside the house were of paramount importance. Prior to remodeling, the tired landscaping was overgrown with big old shrubs that had been pruned beyond recognition. Jennifer created a new look which introduced natural shapes and gave our garden a refreshingly organic feel. Her composition helped soften & compliment the architecture of our home while providing beautiful views for those inside the house. Her hand drawn plans helped us appreciate the proposed design before it was installed. We are delighted with the outcome!

I hired Jenny to completely design my front residential landscape. I had a single tree in my yard to start, along with some crumbled steps that lead to a cement walkway. I showed her some pictures that I had gathered from home and garden or some pins I saved on Pinterest. From those little thoughts she created a dream. We have now flowers and shrubs and bushes and trees and octagonal walkways that wind and have interest... It's beyond perfect. We always have our window open so we can admire the landscape. We are always out on our front steps with our children and we tend to it like it is some other form of child. We loved jenny and what she brought to our home.
