We love our new backyard waterfall designed by Westland Design. Tan listened to my ideas, concerns and budget and came up with the perfect plan for our space. We love the water feature, the lighting, the plantings and the expanded patio. Tan is honest, creative and kind always checking in to make sure we were happy. His team was hardworking and courteous and the project was completed quickly in just over a week. In addition to the project they did so many unexpected little extras like erecting a portable fish tank till the cement cures, expanding our gravel path, trimming plants and adding iPhone on/off for lights and waterfall.. We highly recommend this team.

Recently Tan and his team helped transform our front and backyard into a picturesque landscape that we are so pleased with! Tan went over various ideas for our project and had some really good insight as to what plants, scrubs, and trees would work well in our climate while also suiting the character of our home. Heroes, in my book! While completely unglamorous, Tan and his team showed up like champs to help mom and I out of a sudden and overwhelming flood situation in our home resulting from high water flow/route deviation of underground water. They showed up without knowing the full scope of the situation until breaking ground, thought on their feet and acted quickly to stop the water flowing into our home. Mom and I were finally able to sleep for the first time in days, and continue to have peace of mind, not fearing going to sleep every time it rains anymore!!! Tan's simply a great guy - compassionate and caring, plus a great sense of humour (which ALWAYS makes a rough situation a littler lighter, in my opinion) - and the crew were SO hardworking. In just 2 weeks Tan and his amazing Westland crew transformed a tired outdoor space at my townhouse into a unique and stunning landscape both front and back. It is difficult to imagine what it once was. The scope of the project included everything from removal of a few items to the addition of new plantings harmonious with the stone placements, pruning and relocating of the older original growth in ways I could have never imagined, the addition of a compact water feature, to thoughtfully constructed screens accenting the pond and along what was a stark fence line. The once overgrown and crowded area at the front entry of the property has become home to a peaceful and inviting dry garden accented with a unique granite bowl and, soft lighting for the evenings. These guys are amazing. They visited our backyard, listened to our likes and dislikes, and showed us samples of their work. It was a big project, but they did almost the entire job, certainly everything involving noise and large machines, in 6 days. I thought the initial cost estimate was high, but it was a fixed price, and they treated the space as their own, doing minor fixups and repairs as they went and including elements I didn't consider part of the project. We had input the entire time, and they adapted willingly to our requests, including one change from the original plan that cost them time and money, without charging us anything extra. In the end, I was happy with the price and thrilled with the result. We have the garden of our dreams, complete with waterfall. If you have any doubts about Westland, ask to see some of their work. You will be convinced.

If I could rate higher than 5 stars I would. Tan and his crew are amazing. Tan has a creative genius that he directs through his crew to make his design come to reality. We recently did a complete renovation on a home we bought in Ocean Park in South Surrey. It is an open concept home that we wanted to extend beyond the walls of the house. We wanted the garden to be part of the living and enjoyment of our living space. We love river rocks and boulders and unique plant materials. Tan met with us, we chatted about our thoughts on the design we wanted and he took it further to what we now see as a zen garden. We did put a lot of trust in him because friends who recommended him to us told us we had to. We are glad we did. Tan is talented beyond words. He designs in his head, and did a primitive spray paint on the ground of where boulders and river rock would be place so I could feel comfortable with the design. He personally picked out the boulders and the plant material to suit the design he had in his head AND when it all arrived on site he actually placed it all. He is what I would call a hands on landscape architect. Each personally selected boulder went in our garden where he visually imagined it as did the plant material. Tan is trained in Japanese landscape and the result is a masterpiece of landscape art.

At the time of completion of their work Westland asked us to make a review of their services, I decided to wait and see what kind of followup service they provided before making a final review and consequently their lack of after service affected our rating of them. We were pleased with Their choice and placement of plants in the planting beds that we prepared for them. However they are very expensive and we're disappointed that once they finished the job we never heard from them again. We have had issues with a few of the plants and called them numerous times to get information on the plants that they put in and as well left text messages but they never responded back to us.... very disappointed!

We found Tan and Tam on Houzz and our only regret was not finding them earlier. Very experienced, creative and driven for perfection. A joy to work with as well and it seems there is literally no project or challenge that intimidates them. Its posible that they might command a slightly premiem price but absolutely worth it. Get it done right the first time and hire these guys.

I cannot begin to express how impressed and happy I am with the work that Westland Design has done for our front and back yard. They managed to create, in a few short weeks, two beautiful waterfall ponds (one in the front yard and a huge one in the back), as well as build a large bench (to cover two unsightly concrete pumps in our front yard), a large arbor, a bridge, a trellis for us to hang a swing bench from, expand parts of our existing fence, and essentially completely overhauled our entire property with a cohesive unified design that is better than anything we could have even envisioned. Let me also just say that over the years, we have had our yards redone by THREE different professional landscape companies. Although each redesign was an improvement from the previous, we were never really satisfied with the results. I was weary to attempt a fourth try. But I’m so glad we did. None of them can even come remotely close to what Westland Design has achieved. From the first consult meeting with Tan, the business manager, and Tam, the designer, we knew they were completely different from anything we’ve experienced in the past. Not only were they personable and knowledgeable, they took the time to get to know us and our family, and considered how they could make our spaces not only more beautiful, but also functional and enjoyable for all of us. Tam is incredibly creative and was deeply thoughtful about our project and put so much care into every single idea and decision. He looked at our spaces in ways no other designer has, and helped turn so many previously useless spaces into beautiful functional areas, and turned eye sore spots into gorgeous features. He has an incredible artistic insight and a great ability to create spaces that are not only beautiful, but also feel completely organic and natural. They carved into our existing concrete deck to create the large pond, so that the boulders that line the edge of the pond meets directly with our deck. But it genuinely feels as if the pond was what was naturally always there, and it’s as if we, somehow having happened upon this gorgeous naturescape, decided to build our deck, and our house, around it. Not only is he the designer, but he is an integral part of the team throughout the installation, completely involved in every single detail. So much so, that practically after each plant or rock is in place, he would stand back to look and think, and then go and make adjustments if necessary. Repeating this process over and over until he was satisfied. They would spend hours sometimes heaving and lugging a boulder around until it looked just right to him. I have never seen that kind of thoughtful attention and care to detail and artistry before. But it definitely shows. I really appreciate all the extra little things they did that showed their thoughtfulness. One such example is when they were forming the concrete in the pond, Tan suddenly asked my daughter if she wanted to write her name in it, which she was thrilled to do, and then took the time to help our whole family put our handprints into the wet concrete that are now a permanent part of our pond. It was super sweet and something we never even thought about. And the crew of guys they have on the team are all incredibly hard working. I can’t say enough good things about them. To say they did a great job redoing our yard seems like such an understatement. Tan and Tam are genuine, trustworthy, and are true skilled experts at what they do.

We had a landscape design from our architect firm already and were looking for a company to install it. Tam is the designer at Westland and is very knowledgeable as well as has a great eye for design aesthetics. When Tam came onsite to look at our project, he made many great suggestions on how to create a beautiful, functional and maintainable space and did a complete overhaul of our original design. We also had a budget we had to stick with and they will work with your budget to bring your design to life. One unique feature of their team, is that Tam as the designer is an active part of their install so he makes sure his design is correctly implemented. Their business manager is Tan and he is friendly to work with and keeps me up to date on progress and issues. During the install they came across some grading issues in our backyard (slope of entry into the garage) and were quick on their feet to make a solution that is beautiful and function. They have a crew of a dozen people and installed our front and back garden within 8 days. They are super busy with lots of projects on the go so we were very glad they could fit us in! I appreciate how trustworthy they are and true to their word; they will never over promise or under deliver. We are so pleased with the final result and use of our space and feel like our yard is a lush and relaxing oasis! Thank you Westland for your great work.

From concept through to completion, the designer and crew showed a dedication to guiding and meeting our design dreams through fine tuning of the design and constant consultation with us. What impressed us most was the detailed consultation phase BEFORE any construction commenced. We were asked for our vision of our future garden and were counseled by the designer so that we were all clear on that vision. The job was well coordinated so as to complete the job without ANY delays. I’ve worked with many landscapers over the years as a builder. WESTLAND has proven to be exceptional at what they do. The eye for creativity has far exceeded my expectations and the carpentry crew he works with has done a fantastic job. Highly recommend these guys.

If I could give negative stars I would, Tan Was paid the full amount that he quoted and left our property a complete mess. Look at the photos he said he wouldn’t come back until we paid him more money. The liner is destroyed and my wife and I are out tens of thousands of dollars. His transparency of his hours was a complete sham. It is completely sad that he has the rating He does here. He brought in another company to help figure out how to fix the holes in the liner and the next day he bolted from the site. We have had quotes from qualified companies and the cost to fix will be 10’s of thousands. I will have to fix this because the liability that we are left with could be far worse. Be far careful giving this company work without a firm contract not an estimate or a quote and don’t pay until the job is completed. He has blocked every person in my family from his social medial feeds months ago in fear we would start posting the story of our experience. Buyer be warned

I would like to strongly recommend Tan Truong, owner of Westland Design for his landscape work. Tan's concept for his design incorporates not only the vision of your garden - but how to complement with the surrounding landscape including large trees etc that may surround your garden property. He loves working with large rocks and is excellent at the placement thereof. Very original ideas as is willing to work with you on the concept. We were looking to upgrade the functionality of our yard and to improve it's overall aesthetic. In addition, we wanted to also change the fence to a cedar fence. Westland was referred to us by a friend and we are very happy with how the yard turned out. Tan and his design team were able to create something that was low maintenance and dog friendly. We spend a lot of time in the yard so this was important to us. We didn't pursue the cedar fence but will definitely call Westland if we do. Westland was very knowledgeable and passionate, not to mention not the cheapest, but the quality of work shows. I would recommend Tan and his team to anyone and we are glad that we didn't go with the other expensive companies that quoted us.

When Tan came for a consultation, I told him what I wanted and gave him numerous photos from Houzz and Google Image for examples. Initially he provided great support when a developer wanted to trim trees on my property and Tan made sure it was done responsibly and legally. I could see then that he was looking out for me. I asked for a “woodland” look for the backyard and the outcome of his vision matched what I had imagined. I am so happy with everything – his choice of plants, the stone area in front of my shed, the hidden dog potty sand pit. He even built a small deck for my dog and her doghouse. Wonderful! I hadn’t expected work in the front yard, but he surprised me one day with a much more professional looking front garden. He also completed the side path with beautiful stones and river rocks that is the envy of my neighbours. There was one point at which I was a bit frustrated, but he heard me out and the next day came with five men to complete the job. I believe the mark of a professional is to listen to a complaint and respond in a timely, efficient and responsible manner. This he did. And I was very happy with his response. westland provided trenching services for electrical infrastructure work on our project. the scope included removal of existing pavers, trenching+backfill, and remediation of paving stones after our work was complete. the crew was professional and well equipped. our timeline was very aggressive and westland was very accommodating and went above and beyond to help us meet our deadlines. the customer service was exemplary.

This was our second project with Tan. We chose him for our landscaper based on the fact we were so pleased with the first project. This time round it was a brand new build and the landscaping was done from scratch. Working with Tan is a very positive experience since he prides himself in getting to know his client, their wishes and the importance of a garden to them. He also wants to know how much time and effort you want to put into maintaining the yard after he and his team have finished. The design process is an evolution of artistic ideas that include the surrounding environment, stone and vegetation. Stone or rocks are handpicked and marked for specific locations in the yard. It is so much more than a plan on paper as he works with you to create a place of harmony and healing. Tan is very aware and pro-active with the immediate neighbours to ensure that they do not feel put out in any way. We hired Westland Design Ltd. to build an erosion wall for our property in Ladner. The property backs on to an active irrigation channel and over the years is slowly eroding the back yard. Tan Trong provided us professional advice in his proposal. It provided us with a vision for an esthetic wall and landscaping. The project required the approval of not only the municipality but the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) and the Department of Fisheries (DOF). With these complexities we needed someone with the ability to plan a project that would be acceptable to all levels of government and also able to adjust to any additional information that maybe required after the plan was reviewed. Mr. Trong was excellent in all these matters. His patients with the various agencies and ability to adjust to their requests cannot be understated. The continued delays extended our project to almost 2 years from its inception. Westland Design Ltd. was so understanding and patient throughout the entire process. Once all the approvals were received the actual working time only took 6 days. We have used Westland Design for our landscaping project in our new home. It took us a while to search for a good landscaper that provided a reasonable cost and excellent service and vision. Tan, who is the owner, is very dependable and eager to create a design that fits your needs, and most importantly, your project. He doesn't try to upsell you on higher priced items, but rather suggests really cost-effective and beautiful options that work well with your home and neighbourhood. He is extremely hard-working - I think he never sleeps! I found Westland design through the Houzz website & immediately loved the photos I saw of his landscape projects. My husband & I met Tan Truong in July 2014. He was very professional & we were impressed by his design plans. We were looking for a landscaper to create a modern West Coast feel to our backyard. And this is EXACTLY what he gave us.Our backyard project was a large undertaking & we changed our minds on many of the details, but Tan was very patient, supportive & creative in making our backyard functional as well as an oasis for our home. He worked closely with us & communicates immediately to any of our texts & phone calls. Westland Design was part of a charity initiative at our residential care home. I was expecting them to rake a few leaves but they arrived with a truck full of tools and built us rolling planters and put up the most amazing driftwood in our immense aviaries. Owner, Tan Truong is an absolute delight to work with and his range of knowledge, experience and expertise very impressive. Nightmare! The project started at the end of June of 2014 and half-way now. He tried to walk away from the project on Aug 26, 2014 after obtaining $24000 from me. After I talked to his wife, he returned to the project for another month and stopped again. He admitted taking the $24000 and asked me to go to the small claim to sue him. (he texted such message to me).

They did a great job on removing the plants but there may have been some mushroom seeds in the soil because 3 huge mushrooms just grew on our lawn. I'm happy that the plants are now gone. No roots or weeds remained. They did a great job. :)

Tan, the owner of Westland Design Ltd, is wonderful. He listened and really understood our need. Me dad has alzheimer's and had started wandering. Now with our beautiful enclosed and gated courtyard, he is safe and we are happy. My elderly parents sit and admire the open and interesting space for hours and the birdies come and bathe in our little water feature. If dad were to wake up confused in the night he can sit in his softly illuminated garden and find peace and tranquility. Tan and Doug and Lucas worked so hard to create a work of art for us, we are completely pleased and grateful. I now feel a deep friendship for Tan and hope he and his team and family will always be a part of ours. Which is another fact in his favour, he took me around to many different project sites and all the home owners I met were so pleased with their projects, even after many years.
