Frese's Landscaping

We hired Frese Landscaping last summer to fill with topsoil and reseed areas of our yard which were damaged from tree removal. After two seasons of failed attempts, we did the work ourselves.

Farese's did demolition and grading of our yard, had a large tree removed, put in stepping stones, put down sod and formed a bed and planted. The demolition, stones, and did are great. On the sod we had to call them back to fill in gaps and to check in mushrooms that appeared. The owner delegates tasks to his departments, which was confusing at times. It turns out the he contracted out for the tree removal, which we could have done ourselves, possibly saving some money. By far the most expensive part of the job was the forming of the bed. The horticulturalist visited us 3 times to talk about what we wanted, then to show us plant choices, and then to finalize the design. She kept reiterating that the plants took several years to take and begin to fill in the area. When it was finished we were shocked that we'd paid for what seemed unimpressive. Worst was that we asked for an itemized bill including labor, travel, soil and mulch, and plants. But she gave us an attractive inventory of the plants after we'd paid but no costs. My neighbor could have helped us design a bed and we would've thought it was just as nice. Consider hiring individual businesses to do demolition, grading, mulching and tree removals.

I caution people when hiring this service. They provided a written estimate. They did the work while we were not home and then arrived with a bill for almost twice the original estimate. This is unethical in my book. They said they made a mistake and the job was bigger than they originally thought. The proper way to handle that is to call the owner BEFORE you do the job and inquire whether the higher price is acceptable. We would never have followed through with the work if we had been quoted the price we ended up paying. i am disappointed in this service.

I have used this landscaping business twice so far. The first time was for an order of bark mulch that I was going to put down myself and it was delivered the next day to exactly the spot I requested. Impressed with this efficiency, I went ahead and asked for a quote which I got at the end of the walkthrough on his iPad for tree removal stump removal and general clean up. Again impressed with this efficiency I hired them for the job. 3 days later the crew was at the door and everything was done and the place was left spotless for a very reasonable fee. I look forward to next summer when I plan to use them for installation of a slate patio and two new entryways! Prompt , efficient, pleasant and professional service. A rare find these days!
