Thank you for the review! At Night Light, we strive to improve our clients’ experience every day, and our greatest tool for that improvement is your feedback. It is unfortunate that we are not able to serve you, but we are more than willing to assist you in a transition to another servicer! Please let them know that the last time we were on the property was during the actual installation in 2012. Unfortunately, the previous property owner did not engage in the recommended annual maintenance to keep the system running smoothly and elongate the life of the lamps. Low-voltage systems require regular monitoring; as bulbs burn out, the voltage to the rest of the system increases, causing further burnouts. Most of our clients enroll in this cost-effective program that allows us to ensure the system is running at optimal performance and minimize burnout. The program includes fully testing the system, cleaning fixtures and lenses, adjusting fixtures due to plant growth, pruning as needed, and adjusting of the timing for DST.
The quote you received was for an entire rehab of the system, including all of the services listed above, as well as the replacement of the lamps with a three-year warranty. Most of the labor would have been spent on climbing the trees to service the moon lights, our specialty. If you find another company to switch those out, make sure to request they use “cool white” lamps. Otherwise, they will interrupt the ambiance of your property with a rather unpleasant “warm” security look.
The specialty lamp type you refer to is a twist-lock lamp, originally developed by GE to match the interior version of their common 120v lamps. We use these instead of the far inferior BI-PIN lamp another company will certainly suggest to replace them. BI-PIN lamps are easily knocked out of their sockets. We do not use them in installations because they are untenable for outdoor use around children or pets, and do not weather well. Our crews service systems that other companies have installed with BI-PIN lamps that suffer constant issues. Night Light only employs products and services that stand the test of time. That said, twist-lock lamps are readily available online or through Night Light at a significantly lower price.
(Ps. To keep the lamps from burning out prematurely, ensure the company that replaces the lamps tests the circuits afterwards. We regularly return to our systems, serviced by other companies, to find that most of the lamps had expired due to the lack of experience in working with multi-tapped transformers.)
