“In 2020, we bought a new home with just grass in the backyard. We wanted something as amazing as our previous backyard with a pool. After researching, we chose R&R Backyard Remodeling for their unique designs. Tamir, our project manager, turned our ideas into a design we loved, which we could see in 3D. When the project was done, it matched the 3D image perfectly. The teams from R&R, including carpenters, stonemasons, tilers, and landscapers, did fantastic work. “We worked with the team on a full redesign of our front and side gardens. It entailed taking a sloping dirt lot and some stonework out and restructuring the slope into terraces. We started with an idea of a rock wall — we have three across the garden that were hand built by their mason. Additionally, Mariposa put in a rock-walled raised bed for lettuces and other vegetables. There are areas within the garden — butterfly garden, song bird sanctuary, pollinators — along with fruit trees. We weren’t expecting but are happy with the the “edible mess” of our front yard. Most of the plants can be eaten or used by us. It will need a bit of maintaining as seasonal plants like lettuces or chard go off, but we love the stone work and the overall feel of the garden. Be clear in what you want and expect (there was a point I was told “we kind of do what we want”) so if you DO or DON’T want a plant, speak up. Also, if your house is old, you may encounter problems with sewage, electrical, or water lines. Mariposa encountered all three (I think); not unusual, but you will have to update your lines as necessary to bring them to code. That’s not the gardener’s issue, it’s an old house issue that any major landscaping is likely to encounter.”

“I searched for a landscaper for a long time before I found GardenWise. The wait paid off. What caught my eye was that the company's gardens displayed on Houzz were all different, which suggested that Christine Wiseman listens to her clients. The gardens were also artful. Good combo. Turns out my impressions were accurate. Christine's process is truly collaborative. Her designs reflects her fine arts background, her sensitivity to a locale, and her horticultural knowledge and imagination. I'm fortunate in another respect: the plantings went in about a month before life changed in mid-March. As I've found myself mostly at home, my new garden has been a great source of respite and pleasure.”
