“Westcoast Hardscape did an amazing job on our backyard. They tore down our existing patio overhang and concrete, and built a large new pergola, and also poured new concrete. They installed artificial turf as well. Ground lighting in the turf, and recessed lighting in our pergola ceiling completed the project. They also brainstormed with us on a couple problem areas like poor drainage under a downspout, and moving a water faucet to a better location. I think the thing I appreciated about them the most was the communication from Michael. He let us know when the crew would be out and visited our yard frequently while the job was underway. His quote was accurate, and I was VERY happy not to get change ordered to death. And Cesar - his lead for this project - was BRILLIANT! He seemed to know everything and gave great advice and ideas. No shortcuts were taken, only high quality products were used, and I know it will last decades. Should we have another project, we will definitely use Westcoast Hardscape again.”

“I hired Richard to design a conversion of a low concrete wall in my backyard into a living wall. Richard selected the planting system, specified materials and gave me several choices of design. This posed a somewhat difficult problem since the area is rather shady. Richard produced high quality drawings and a complete listing of what was needed for the project. In this case, I chose to do the project myself. However, had I needed one, he recommended a contractor in my area to do the work. His design services were reasonably priced and I really like the look of the finished project.”

“We worked with the team on a full redesign of our front and side gardens. It entailed taking a sloping dirt lot and some stonework out and restructuring the slope into terraces. We started with an idea of a rock wall — we have three across the garden that were hand built by their mason. Additionally, Mariposa put in a rock-walled raised bed for lettuces and other vegetables. There are areas within the garden — butterfly garden, song bird sanctuary, pollinators — along with fruit trees. We weren’t expecting but are happy with the the “edible mess” of our front yard. Most of the plants can be eaten or used by us. It will need a bit of maintaining as seasonal plants like lettuces or chard go off, but we love the stone work and the overall feel of the garden. Be clear in what you want and expect (there was a point I was told “we kind of do what we want”) so if you DO or DON’T want a plant, speak up. Also, if your house is old, you may encounter problems with sewage, electrical, or water lines. Mariposa encountered all three (I think); not unusual, but you will have to update your lines as necessary to bring them to code. That’s not the gardener’s issue, it’s an old house issue that any major landscaping is likely to encounter.”
