My wife and I hired Slate Consgruction to build our dream home. We had been planning to build our home for a very long time, and when it came time to pick the right GC, we were nervous from all the horror stories we had heard from our friends. Once we met Jason, we identified with him and he guided us through the process in such an open format, we felt very comfortabel in the process. One of the biggest benefits to us, was Jason's designer background. His ability to show us different ways to address situations and design changes that came up, were truly a blessing in the process. His unique blend of style and design, worked well with our own vision for the project. My wife and I would highly recomend him.

It was a long process, with many delays, most beyond the builders control. The final home should be in Architects Digest. The design was change on the kitchen from what looked good on paper but as it was being constructed missed the mark. The Architect, Builder, and we came up with a truly beautiful result.
Building Center No.3

I have known Jason Tapia since 1999 when I contracted Building Center No. 3 to plan the complete renovation of my recently purchased home. My 2030 square foot ranch home was purchased from an elderly woman who had made no improvements since 1943. The entire internal structure needed renovation and this was ideal for me because I am disabled and use a wheelchair. A full renovation on an inexpensive property would allow me to achieve the accessibility I needed and desired. Mr. Tapia’s commitment to working from an environmental perspective led to his hire since he was willing to consider Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) building guidelines, their practicality given my specific disability, air quality, lighting, expense and aesthetics. All of these were considered in coordination with the psychological impact that the space would have on me and my family. The renovation included: A complete “gutting” of the interior; including the main floor Excavation of the cellar to increase the height from 5 feet to 8.5 feet Repining of the entire foundation Cementing the cellar floor Installation of steel “I” beams to support a new main floor Installation of wheelchair lift that complies with NYC elevator codes New heating, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, fire place, windows and cable wiring Framing, building and finishes Mr. Tapia developed the architectural plans/drawings and filed them with the Dept. of Buildings, researched options related to each of the above mentioned points (e.g. lifts vs. elevators, various lighting designs/fixtures, various materials, windows, heating/air conditioning systems, etc.) and he oversaw the contractor to ensure fidelity to the plans and quality in the workmanship. I was thoroughly satisfied with his work and commitment as well as with his sensitivity for my needs as his client. As a result, he was contracted to design a finished basement which was recently completed. He turned an outdated and damaged structure into a sound, comfortable, usable (i.e. wheelchair friendly) and aesthetically pleasing home. My friends regularly comment on the serenity and comfort that they experience when visiting.

We met Denise, the head behind Preschel Design Studio, back in 2016 when my wife and I decided to build a custom house for our family in Miami, Fl. We had actually already chosen a different architect but decided to meet with Denise anyway as part of a due diligence process we wanted to follow. Upon meeting her our immediate impression was that she was far too young for the project at hand but by the end of a one-hour pitch meeting we decided on the spot that she was the right person for the job. She swept us off our feet with her great ideas, jaw-dropping portfolio, polite and approachable manner and her VERY ORGANIZED process. Right off the bat Denise was able to read and understand our style perfectly. She even picked up on elements that we hadn't figure out we wanted (such a bronze-colored windows) after she browsed through a Houzz album we created for inspiration. The house she designed for us is without a doubt our dream home, she maximized down to the last inch of the property and created wonderful spaces that are functional, enjoyable to live in and aesthetically beautiful. If I had to choose one element that sets Denise apart from any other architect is her perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality. She understands that in any livable space both aspects must go hand and in hand so she will always find creative ways to make sure her designs don't have to sacrifice either. Denise's guidance during the whole design and construction process also proved extremely valuable. Her involvement truly made a difference in turning a process that can easily become and overwhelming nightmare in a fun-filled enjoyable experience. There are no words to say how happy we are with Denise and would think twice before recommending her to anyone needing an architect.

My daughter is very happy with her new home (our pool house). This is the first time I get to watch construction from beginning to end, and I must say I am impressed. Carlos or Jorge were on site every day making sure progress was made. My expectations are much higher for my home now, as it is also being remodeled and should be done in a month. I'll be back to provide my feedback. Thank you.

The team at Habify is exceptional. Not only do they pay attention to every detail, but they communicate extremely well. We hired them to remodel the entire interior of our home: two bathrooms, kitchen, living room, 3 bedrooms and a family room. We had a tight deadline and Habify was able to deliver on all the work on time and on budget. What's more important they made the whole process an enjoyable experience. They are enthusiastic about getting the job done well. I would highly recommend Habify for any home improvement project.
