We are a design-oriented, full-service architectural practice established in 2006. Our approach is thoughtful, collaborative, inquisitive and reflective of deep beliefs in what constitutes good design. We believe that design affects people's lives in ways that are deeper than aesthetics. We create environments in which life stories unfold. We believe we have a responsibility to create thoroughly good design. And we believe that every good design starts with a clear understanding of function and use, consideration of the surrounding context and and a deep appreciation of client direction. We believe in embracing complexity. Many factors affect design - the client’s needs, tastes and budget, the existing context, both historic and physical, the talents of each member of the design team, the need to be as judicious as possible with our natural resources, as well as technical considerations such as building systems and code constraints. We believe that it is the architect’s task to dig deep and extract the essence of these influences and then synthesize these factors into a functionally and aesthetically coherent work of architecture. We believe philosophically that all aspects of any project need to be synthesized by the architect into a coherent whole. Therefore we offer our clients not only our technical expertise, which includes planning, code compliance, municipal filings, coordination of building systems, observation of construction, etc, but also our design expertise, which includes developing the aesthetic and spatial and tactile qualities of the building.

Inside the spaces designed by Elvan Arolat, Founder and Owner of L-One Design, you will find beauty, simplicity and timelessness. Applying art with engineering, vision with focus to her design process, Ms. Arolat believes that it takes research, analysis, creativity and, above all, communications to create an environment that is right for the people in it. Ms. Arolat gathers her clients’ vision and desires for their space and infuses those ideas into the overall design concept. She considers a space within its larger context. Local history, nearby architecture, the people in the vicinity – all of these aspects are critical elements in the L-One design process. Each space must be relevant within its larger milieu in order to project a true sense of comfort and place. From a pied-a-terre in Manhattan or a private villa and luxury hotels in Turkey, Ms. Arolat seeks to create a sensibility that is natural, clean and relaxing. She addresses the senses through texture, lighting, and engagement with the environment. At the same time, Ms. Arolat understands her clients’ everyday needs and the role of practicality in any living space, whether a home or a hotel. Her designs reflect sensible and inventive ways to maximize a space and its potential for comfort, aesthetics and the requirements of daily life.

“More than just design...it’s a lifestyle” When we say “it’s more than just design it’s a lifestyle”, this really does resonate well with our clients. The entire process from beginning to end is geared towards one thing - designing the kitchen around the way that family lives. What makes us unique is in our approach, and the way in which we are able to capture the personality of that family by looking at their daily routine, interests and hosting styles, then translate that into the design of the kitchen that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional. This is something that we have been able to do consistently well. Our forward thinking attitude in incorporating the latest technology that not only serves a purpose but solves a problem without being too intrusive has been such a huge success. Products and Services we Sell and Provide: * Kitchen Cabinets (Custom, Semi-Custom, Standard) * Kitchen Renovation * Countertop * Custom Built-ins * Closets * Bathroom Vanities * Designs

My first professional project was designing a bathroom for one of my retail clients. At the time, I was a salesperson in a popular kitchen and bath showroom. It was through that first experience with interior design that I realized my industry was lacking what I considered to be a clear, organized process for implementing a design concept. This fueled my desire for more knowledge, which led me to earn my certification in bathroom design (CBD), then kitchen design (CKD) and ultimately, a Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design (BFA). Recently, I earned a certification in Aging In Place (CAPS) - a designation that allows me to modify my client's homes so that they may stay in them, for the long term. I now bring an educated opinion to the table. My process is clear-cut, organized and something I am proud to share with my clients, as it saves them time, money and stress. Along the way, I've made mistakes, as all successful people do. But each experience has been an opportunity to improve the way that I do business. I am always looking to the future in order to make the design experience more beneficial for my clients, more efficient for my company and more personally rewarding for myself. Design should be a fun, creative process, for everyone involved: a concept that differentiates "doing one's job" from living one's life with joy. A couple recently told me that I was their "Rock Star Designer". I like the sound of that. Let's be rock stars!

Unlike most Architects today I don't have a singular style that I design in. I'm more like the Architects of the Edwardian Era who could design in different styles as the Client requested and the context compels. I enjoy the collaboration of a team approach that, while grounding the design in a cohesive aesthetic, creates something new in the melding of the different collaborator's ideas. With over 40 years of experience, I start the design process responding to the Client's program and preconceptions. Working with the Client, I create several quick sketch drawings of different forms the design can take. This way the Client can see all the options and we can establish a design direction for the project. More than documenting the design, I regard the drawing process as a tool in the design process. In collaboration with the Client, subsequent drawings, either hand or computer generated, are reviewed at every stage. As a small firm I don’t hand Clients off to Employees; all Client contact is with me thus ensuring a highly professional, personalized experience. In the U.S., my NCARB certification allows me to practice in every state. For my international work, I partner with local architects.
