Maggie Bender Interiors, Allied ASID
Newark, NJ Space Planning Professionals
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsJune 18, 2015
Maggie was a fabulous resource for me in selecting new furniture for my family room and redesigning my daughter's bedroom, closet, and school space. Since I work full time, she listened to my goals and style and efficiently helped me decide and then execute on terrific projects. I then realized that there were a few more house projects I had never finished, particularly missing tile in my fireplace and a backsplash I never finished, and she did her magic again. She listens, balances practicality with creativity, is efficient and pays terrific attention to detail. I highly recommend her.

I've been using Alex's design services since 2010 and have done many projects with her that I've been extremely happy with. She has transformed many rooms into comfortable and stylish spaces in a just few months, that I had been trying to finish on my own for years! Working with Alex is always a pleasure.

You have probably gone through something like this more than once yourself. Yes, I'm talking about moving. It's something we all dread. You finally find the right place to live and then comes the question: Will my furniture fit? Will my rugs fit? What about the colors on the walls, will it all work? Moving to a new place can be overwhelming but not when you have Jula on hand. She had a plan for us. Jula measured our existing furniture and new apartment, and using her interior design program, she planned multiple spaces for us. She gave us options so we could decide which ones worked the best for us. When moving day came, thanks to Jula we already knew where to place all of our "stuff" and I have to say it really saved us a lot of time and frustration. We didn't have to re-shuffle furniture back and forth like we had to during our previous move. She had a place in mind for everything. The existing colors on the walls were definitely not something we could live with, so we asked Jula to help us. The colors she chose made a huge difference. It made our kitchen and hallway seem bigger. The living room and other rooms now complemented each other perfectly. You can tell that she is very passionate about colors and has a great feel for choosing the right ones for any space. Her collection of over-sized hand-painted color samples is pretty impressive and made it a breeze to make our choice. No multiple trips to the hardware store, no painting samples on the walls. Within minutes we had chosen our colors. Done. Now I hope we will never move again, however, if we do, I know just the right person to hire to come to the rescue........
Lemon Grass Interior Architecture
Newark, NJ Space Planning Professionals
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsMay 30, 2013
We hired Lemon Grass to undertake a complete kitchen remodeling, converting from a very small, old kitchen, expanding into unused area and creating a large, well-lit, highly functional and very beautiful kitchen. The new space is very comfortable for our large family, and the flow and layout of the kitchen allow for efficient cooking and cleaning. The kitchen is most notable for its unique color and style, and really is quite beautiful.

Frederick has wonderful vision and ideas. He has a great sense of space, but also deep respect for preserving the integrity of an older home when adding on an addition to modify a structure.

Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsNovember 4, 2012
We have worked with Karen at Brinkman for countless projects; baths, kitchens, whole-house remodels; light commercial spaces, and additions. She is a true professional and has some great ideas for the spaces we are hired to remodel. She is willing to stop by on a moment's notice for questions and advice, which is important for the remodeling that we are involved in. We plan to continue working with her for all of our remodels in the future.
Paul Lopa Designs

My wife and I recently bought a high ranch house in Staten Island which was in pretty decent shape. However, the basement looked like it was straight out of 1972. It was finished, had its own bathroom and kitchen, but it was dark, dank and had poor function. We realized that the entire basement needed to be redone. My wife and I had never owned a home before, and we had limited experience with contractors on our condo. We searched the internet and looked at some suggestions from friends and wound up with four potential Contractors. Paul Lopa Designs was one of them. The first three contractors all had very similar ideas on what to do with the space, pretty much keeping everything the way it was but merely re-dressing what was there. Paul Lopa Designs, on the other hand, suggested a totally new basement. One that we did not think was possible with the space we had. Paul’s design was amazing. He moved the bathroom to the other side of the basement, designed the kitchen of our dreams, and opened up a flow to the downstairs that made it completely incredible. After seeing Paul’s ideas, we knew he was the contractor for us. Paul’s plan was the most expensive. However this was our home, and I strongly believe in the old adage that you get what you pay for, so we decided not to cheap ourselves and picked the real talent. It was about four or five months of work. Pretty much right on schedule (I think they ran 2 weeks or so over, but with the scope of the work, that was a feat in and of itself) Paul’s guys completely gutted the basement, took out the old water heater and furnace. They put in central AC, radiant heating (in both the upstairs and basement) redid all the electric and plumbing. They did a mud job to the floors and laid down all new tiles. They created the type of bathroom that one sees on HGTV and installed the kitchen of our dreams Paul was hands on with the project. If he didn’t do the work himself, he or Brian (his right hand man,) would be there, every day, to supervise the work the subcontractors did. And if it wasn’t up to Paul’s standard (which believe me was higher than mine, he would have them re-do it (more on that later.) Paul returned calls promptly; he is a true professional that knows his trade. He walked us through the entire renovation, phase by phase, explaining what he and his crew were going to do, presented us with different options and let us decide which one we wanted. If I ever had addition work done on the house, I would use Paul Lopa Designs in a heartbeat. Not only that, but I have recommended Paul to many family and friends. You will not be disappointed in the work performed. People come over to our house now and their jaws drop when they see our basement Paul and his workers were professional, always available and held their work to a standard that is unusual these days. About two months after the completion of the job, Paul came back to take photographs of his work for his website. Over that time a small crack in the grout on the floor of the shower appeared. We asked Paul if he could come patch it up, when he came by to take the picture for his site, he said he would. However, when he came to inspect the crack, he looked at the overall floor of the shower and was not happy with the pitch (apparently it needed to be slightly more of a pitch to allow the water to flow into the drain faster.) I would have been happy with the small crack being re-grouted, but not Paul, he pretty much insisted that we allow him to bring in his men, to rip up the shower floor and re-do it from scratch. Three days later the work was done (and believe me, there is a discernible difference in the way that shower drains now. Paul was right yet again) Also, and this is probably the best example of the type of man Paul Lopa is, on Thanksgiving Day me and my wife were hosting the entire family. We had about 20+ people coming over. About an hour before the guest arrived, I heard a loud thud from the utility room. I went in to see the venting pipe of the hot water heater came disconnected and had fallen to the floor. It was merely a PVC pipe that probably didn’t have enough adhesive on it, nothing big. Well, I called Paul and told him about it and asked him if he could come by over the weekend to fix it. He told me he’d call me back in ten minutes after he spoke to his plumber/Heat and AC guy, Antonio. Well a good 90 minutes went by with no return phone call. Then there was a knock at the door, I assumed it was one of our guests, but low and behold, there was Paul, with Antonio, ready to fix the venting pipe. It took them about fifteen minutes to put it back up, seal it properly and it hasn’t been an issue since. What contractor does this? Showing up in the middle of Thanksgiving to make sure his work was done right and his clients happy. And all he took for payment was a few forkfuls of stuffing, (which I felt was the least I could offer in light of him coming over to fix something on a holiday.) This is the type of man Paul Lopa is. If you’re doing work on your house, I strongly recommend Paul Lopa Designs. Not only will you get great service, an amazing, visionary design, quality work….but most of all you’ll be getting peace of mind knowing that the job is done right, and that Mr. Lopa will always stand by his work.

I enjoyed working with Brad. He listens to your needs & creates a design that is detailed & functional. Builders who I have spoken too said he is the best and can go by the design without any issues. One of the builders in particular said he is happy to see Brad's designs because he knows he can give a realistic quote, no surprises later on in the project. That says a lot. My project was an addition and it came in on time and on budget and exactly looks like the plans. We have been enjoying the new space and if I would have to do another project Brad will be my first call. He is the best!
