GRG Playscapes

We contracted for the following: design totally new back and side yards; design and install pipe system to draw water away from house and garage and into 2 rain gardens; design and install brick area around spigot as well as brick area to stow garbage carts; build vegetable boxes and rebuild fence; design and install sculptured grass areas with brick edge in back yard; design flower and bush plantings to attract birds and butterflies but to be mindful of owner's allergies to scents; design area for bird feeders; pour new concrete to fix previously damaged part of driveway; plant all of the plantings; and provide general consultation. This was a tall order. At the beginning we had a specific outcome we were looking for in changing my wild and unusable yards but couldn't see any way to get there. They were really good listeners, which allowed them to provide choices to meet our design goals. We were very pleased from inception of work: the team was punctual, quiet, mindful of my neighbors, tidy around the workspace and hardworking. They had a well-planned computer communication system where we could not only exchange messages but also attach pictures of design items and plantings for us to review. They were very prompt in responding to any questions that we had. All of the brick work was expertly done and fit with the brick patio that was already there. Removal of all previous plantings and grass went quickly; they clearly had daily goals to meet and to stay on schedule. We wanted bushes with berries for birds and perennials to attract butterflies and bees. We also are reactive to strong flower scents so plantings had to be chosen with this in mind. They came up with native plants that have already attracted hummingbirds and our previously desolate, almost barren south-facing side yard is so colorful that it now attracts a host of butterflies. They were also responsive to questions about how to care for each plant and provided us with a complete listing of our plantings, where they were in the yard and color pictures of each for reference. They have been very generous with post-work follow-up including checking up on the pipe/rain garden system. Greener Roof and Garden's work for us was superb -- so much so that we have subsequently retained them to help maintain the yard to ensure that it remains consonant with the original conceptualization. We unhesitatingly recommend their services.

We needed ideas for landscaping our front yard and adding some curb appeal. For first meeting, we were impressed by their creativity. We meet several times to evaluate our landscape needs and come up with a plan. They worked very collaboratively, listened to our needs, and worked within our budget. We loved the plan they came up with and hired them to do all the work including selecting plants, trimming shrubs and rebuilding an old stone wall. They transformed the space! As far as contractors/service providers go... they are professional and so easy to work with. They delivered everything they promised and more! I would not hesitate to work with them again and recommend them to others.

I highly recommend Greener Roofs & Gardens. We first contacted John at Greener Roofs & Gardens when a huge old walnut tree in our back yard was compromised and we didn’t trust its branches any more. It had to come down. But that was going to have a big impact on the comfort and landscaping in our back yard. John had the idea of taking down just certain parts of the tree, and then using those parts to build something else onto the tree’s trunk—the “fort” that our two sons had been dreaming of for years! The end results were both beautiful and magical. And John’s creativity and enthusiasm were so contagious that we even ended up adding a deck to the project! He and his crew were a real pleasure to work with. Our neighbors even complimented the GR&G crew on their friendliness and enthusiasm during the time they were working on the project. We had Greener Roofs & Gardens (GRG) complete a landscape design for our entire backyard with sensibilities toward: --- Developing an area for our dogs to run and play fetch, --- Using proper grading to create successful water flow into a new rain garden, --- Designing a new, larger patio that was integrated into the backyard layout, --- Staying within our desired budget. Once the design was finalized, we worked with GRG to stay within our calendar year budget and decided to phase the project accordingly. > The first phase was completed in the summer of 2011, which included completing the following work down to the back half of our property: - Removal of grass/soil and old shrub, - Removal of old garden bed, including plantings, - Amending/enriching new soil, - Grading soil for proper water flow away from all buildings and into new rain garden, - Delivery and installation of new rear area shrubs, - Delivery of all new rear area perennials (my husband and I installed the plants ourselves), - Delivery and installation of sod for back portion of lawn, - Delivery and installation of mulch for entire rear area, - Digging trench for new raised garden bed (my husband and I installed the actual hardscaping). > The second phase was completed in 2012, which included: - Removal of old patio, - Excavation for new patio, - Delivery and installation of patio base material (my husband and I installed the actual patio hardscaping), - Reworking new garden areas along house that align with patio, including amending and grading soil, - Delivery of all new plantings (my husband and I will install all new plants) - Sodding second half of lawn, including inter-seeding for custom "hardy" grass mixture for our dogs. Working with GRG was great. They were easy to work with and extremely accommodating. We together to develop a design that was functional, beautiful and within our budget. They listened to our requests and desires and offered their professional opinion and advice where needed in a kind and thoughtful way. My husband and I appreciated their flexibility throughout the entire process. We wanted to do as much of the manual labor to help save on cost and they were 100% OK with that. They are a wonderful company to work with and they truly care about what their clients want with a conscious effort to make the most out of what nature provides in your existing space. GRG gets our complete thumbs up!
