“My husband and I designed and built our Japanese-inspired home in the desert SW and wanted to incorporate natural, organic, and non-toxic materials. Originally, we considered traditional mud plaster used in old adobe homes in the area, but during our investigation, we saw examples of American Clay plaster and decided this material would better meet our aesthetic and green building goals. The difficult part was finding tradespeople familiar with clay plaster to perform the work, and we feel fortunate to have found Solamente Clay Walls, a small company owned by Sally and Kent. As an artist, Sally's aesthetic sense was evident immediately. She helped us decide on custom colors to meet our somewhat different expectations. Since we plastered our entire house, we knew we had to get it just right. They suggested using three different textures of the same custom color for subtle differences, as well as 2 different custom colors for accent areas. Throughout the project, we found both Sally and Kent very knowledgeable, professional, and truly a pleasure to work with. All of their employees are accomplished plasterers and the end result shows! The job was superbly done, and right on time! Our walls are just beautiful and subtly change color depending on the season and time of day. They have a wonderful texture and depth that have to be experienced! And after 7 years in our home, the walls look great and have been easy to maintain.
