We approach each project individually, customizing our services to best fit our client’s needs. You can engage us for any one, or all, of our offered services and benefit from our understanding of the entire process from inception to occupancy. Together, we are a group of inspired collaborators who contribute their diverse talents to the design-build process. Good design starts with caring, thoughtfulness, and attentive listening. We create client-driven designs that reflect our practice at listening. Our work is custom, because our clients are as diverse as the houses we build for them. Our houses are deeply personal to our clients and as such, our relationships with our clients are close and personal as well. Equally as important is the energy and excitement for the vision we create together, and being able to articulate that vision from the first program meeting to the last day on the construction site The natural outcome of attracting a great group of Maine talent has been the growth and evolution of our original business, Boothbay Home Builders, founded by Steve Malcom in 1978. With the addition of woodworking services in 1985, architecture and design expertise in 1990 and more recently the incorporation of care taking services and offices in Portland, Knickerbocker Group was formed. Over the past three decades, we have built relationships with a diverse network of artisans and craftspeople throughout the state, both in-house and freelance professionals. Our work is underscored by process-driven delivery—40 years and each time we strive to do it better. We guide our clients from start to finish, and find the best way to succeed is with frequent and effective communication. We like to tell our clients what we are going to do before we do it, so they are aware and as involved as they would like to be. While we value process, we will never compromise quality.

Carol began Residential Design Studio as a sole proprietor in 2010. It quickly became evident that RDS was going to be larger than one person! Given the economic climate of 2010, many of her wonderfully talented colleagues were also “on their own” and of a similar mindset that working together was the key to both financial and personal success. RDS quickly gained a reputation for pulling teams of highly qualified professionals together for a wide variety of commercial and residential projects. By 2011, it was clear that this model of working together was going to be successful and RDS needed to grow to support it—and her first employee was hired. . .then the second. . . then the third. . . Today, Carol remains sole owner of the Studio and is supported by a wonderfully talented staff. RDS still partners with their colleagues who are “on their own” and with large firms, so that we can meet any challenge set forth, with the best possible professional fit for our clients. Carol is the lead designer of the Studio and remains involved with her clients throughout the entire design and construction process—even when another member of RDS manages the project, Carol’s is the face you will see at every design meeting.

Interior Design, Furniture Design and Retail Product Design I was born into design; my great-grandfather was an impressionist painter, my grandfather & father were both architects and my mother herself was an interior designer. Even more, all four of my siblings are also in the art/design fields of work. We simply had no choice, designer blood runs through our veins! Prior to my interior design business, I worked in the wholesale/retail world for several years, first in sales and then in design and production. Currently, I am designing a line of cottage furniture for a wholesale company and I have my own line of custom furniture and vanities. I truly love my work and it is important to me to take the time to work closely with my clients as we bring their visions to life. More so, it is imperative that each one of my projects reflects the clients taste and interests rather than my own. Here at Celia Bedilia, we can help you bring your ideas to actuality.
