Shane and his crew did a bathroom remodel for us, and a kitchen countertop replacement. They also replaced our front door. Doing remodel work with homeowners living in the house can be complicated. Shane and his people were professional and accommodating, working around us and out schedules and needs while getting the job done. We are very pleased with the work that was done. The quality of the work is top notch, and their customer service is excellent.

My project was a root-and-branch kitchen design/rebuild. The original house dates from 1897 but it's been jerked around and added onto quite a bit so that the kitchen is now the very visible center of the house. I wanted to roll the kitchen and old dining room plus a disused bathroom into a single large live-in kitchen with a laundry area that could be closed from view. I also wanted a mudroom and a second sink to deal with heaps of muddy produce from my all-seasons vegetable garden. Paul Olson at Skandia had a nifty 3D program that allowed us to visualize and play with the layout. Two walls were removed; the mudroom was built out onto the existing back porch. Walls, ceiling, floors (including the ceiling below in the basement) were stripped to the studs. Skandia did all new flooring, sheetrock, paint, lighting, plumbing, windows, counters. I shopped for the appliances but Skandia installed them, including a massive range hood that was difficult to duct because of my low ceilings. I do a lot of cooking. I grow all my own vegetables, and make all my own everything. I've lived over twenty years in this house. So, I had a lot of views on how I wanted my kitchen to be. Like, a kitchen door should have all the fiddly little individual glass panes that take two days to paint around, not just one big pane with lined divisions. I need the counter lowered where I roll pastry. I wanted new cabinets, and a lot more of them, but reusing as much as possible of the original vertical grain fir... All this to say, I may not have been the most easy-going client to work with. Too, the hundred-plus-year-old house has no straight lines or level surfaces. There were random hot wires in the ceiling and mummified rats under the floor. Of the three design/build contractors and one architect I interviewed, Paul Olson at Skandia was the only one who seemed really interested—I don't mean in landing the job but in the house itself. He got the vibe. Paul has an artist's eye and experience with period styles. He walked me through all the kerjillion design choices and kept me real with the budget. When I needed to pare down he helped me pare, and where I wanted to splurge he enabled (that fabulous green stone countertop!) His cabinetmaker, Alexei, even built me a red lacquer "Chinese" cabinet for my collection of CDs. Skandia was not the lowest bidder. But Paul stuck religiously to his estimates. There was not one single surprise. Every single workman who came to the house seemed to have known Paul since their dads went to high school together. The men were uniformly competent, punctual, and a joy to have around. Especially, Paul's right-hand man Bil Frost must be the handyman in the mind of God. Bil never left the house without cleaning everything. There was no detail too minute, too fiddling, to often, too back-breaking. Haul the old fridge to the basement? Sure! Need to cut out the basement door frame to make it fit? Hey, no problem. I blush to think how often I heard Bil say, "She wants..." But I got it, whatever I wanted. The job took three and a half months and cost a staggering amount of money. I love my new kitchen with a sick passion. I would hire Paul (and Bil! I would adopt Bil) again in a shot. And actually the whole look and flow of the house are so improved, if I sold the property today I believe I'd make my money back.

We were referred to Urban Details for our kitchen remodel and they did not disappoint. After our initial meeting, we walked away with so many amazing ideas which we would never have come up with ourselves. We really liked the fact that Urban Details builds their own cabinets, every piece was custom designed to work in our kitchen. Quality, quality, quality! Jeff’s team was very friendly and accommodating to all of our needs. Thank you Urban Details, we LOVE our kitchen!

We hired Interior Reflections to give a “face-lift” to our 20yr old home. Shailu managed the project that included: Re-painting the entire interior space, re-carpeting the entire house, and the largest projects - re-desigining and renovating the master bathroom and the half bath. Painting- Shaila helped us pick out the right colors for our house, colors that delivered the right light, and fit the overall aesthetic of our art, and decorations. Her painters did an excellent job - making it easy for us to still live in the house, as they did it. Carpet - Shaila helped us pick out a wonderfully soft carpet for the house and a special more durable carpet for our Puja (Prayer room). Her carpet installers were so fast and efficient and we got a great price for premium carpet. Bathroom renovation - Shaila re-designed our bathroom working with us on our requests constantly. She was able to propose different ideas so that we had some options to choose from. She personally met us to make tile selection. Even when we had last min changes, she helped manage the contractors to get it done. Specifically, we had our shower expanded with new hardware and glass doors, a new bath tub, new sinks, and tile work. Shaila, helped us reuse anything that helped maintain the consistency of the whole house like our cabinetry. Shaila is such a pleasure to work with, she takes her work personally. Renovating one’s whole house was a bit intimidating, and Shaila made it easy for us. She even brought us lunch on her visits. She also made sure that the work we got done to the house helped to grow its value in today's housing market. We highly recommend Shaila and Interior Reflections!

Diane did such an amazing job on our kitchen/dining/living room/front entry remodel we hired her again to help us with our kids' bed/bath remodel. She truly is an advocate for you, the homeowner... constantly watching out for your interests and budget. Diane didn't charge for travel time. She doesn't receive any kickbacks for any products she recommends. And I'm pretty certain she didn't even bill us for all of the time I know that she spent thinking about and working on our project. She would tap her extensive product knowledge to help us select appropriate products which fit within our budget. She didn't send us only to her favorite suppliers, she identified reputable retail outlets which were close to our home. If she didn't immediately know the answer to a product question, she was able to very quickly get back to us after contacting someone from her extensive industry network. Each and every person she had us deal with directly, I felt like they were real down to earth people that were genuinely trying to provide the best product or service (This is not true for most of the other people I have dealt with in the industry. They can be intimidating, annoying and obviously just out to get your $$) We have a family with young children so evening meetings were really the only option for us much of the time. Diane was flexible and facilitated several internet-based planning meetings. We would talk to her on the speaker-phone while looking at the design on our computer. We were watching her computer screen and she'd move things around and we had a true interactive meeting. She could even give us control so we could "point" to things on the plan with the mouse. It was fabulous, a huge time saver and very stress free. She went above and beyond the call of action. After the planning phase of both projects was complete and in the midst of construction, we ran into problems with the contractors which we didn't know how to solve on our own and required quick
Rockwood Cabinetry

Rockwood Cabinetry provided cabinets as part of our kitchen and bath remodel. The quality of construction (solid doors, solid maple drawers, dovetail joinery, plywood cases, finish), the detailed drawings (redone several times as we changed appliances), installation & finish work were great. In fact, the cabinets and counter top exceeded my expectations. The cost was very competitive compared to other suppliers. We were introduced to Rockwood by the general contractor (Chris Holmgreen) we hired to do the remodel.

Our relationship with Pavel of Let's Remodel began in 2005 with our kitchen back splash. We found him to be an amazing craftsman, and a dependable professional. Since 2005, we have completed several remodel projects and Pavel has played a significant role in each of them. Pavel tiled our hallway, laundry and master bathroom. He also was the general contractor for our latest remodel project in 2013 which included hardwood flooring, built in cabinets and a guest bathroom remodel. We couldn't be more pleased with his work!
