About Us
The Outer Banks Home Builders Association is a professional trade organization dedicated to informing, educating and promoting the members of the building industry. Commonly known as the OBHBA, we were officially chartered by the National Association of Home Builders in 1979 and grew from about 37 people to almost 639 before the industry downturn in 2009. Our membership is comprised not only of licensed building contractors, but skilled trades people, building material suppliers, bankers, insurance agents, realtors, decorators, designers and many others who support the building industry on the Outer Banks.
Additionally, our 450+ members live and work in the communities where they build and are committed to building better homes as well as better lives through service to their community. Both individually and as an Association, they give back to our community, building handicap ramps, collecting and donating food to the local Food Pantry, awarding an average of $9,000 in scholarships to local students each year and supporting other local charities as requests come in. Many of our members are active as scout leaders, serve on town and county boards and are heavily involved in civic organizations and coaching. When you do business with members of the Outer Banks Home Builders Association, you are dealing with people who call this narrow strip of sand “home.” And it shows.
