“C S Webb Daughter & Son - Webbys Septic Services The Webb family has provided septic engineering, installation and repair for more than 50 years. The current crew is daughter Deneane and grandson Billy. When we started having frequent recurring septic system plugging a few years ago, the problem seemed to be at the baffle inside the first septic tank – a gooey white mixture of residues of detergents, toilet paper, and who knows what else. This had occurred a few times over the 50 year life of the system (long past the typical system life span). Breaking up the clog and pumping the tank would return the system to health, but had to be done with increasing frequency. In the summer of 2024, we asked the Webbys to have a look. They opened the second access port above the tank (it had been buried for many years) and removed the clog yet again. Then the investigation began: cleaning the incoming pipe and outgoing pipe to the distribution box and inspecting that pipe with a camera. Nothing obvious was found. With the system back in operation, we decided to see how things worked for some months and if the problem reoccurred, to take more invasive steps. Sure enough, 10 months later the clog was back and this time one possibility was that the incoming pipe from the house did not have enough slope: the only alternative would be to lower the point of entry into the septic tank. But before taking such a drastic step, we agreed to excavate the distribution box to ensure that the (already old) field was flowing, since if it wasn’t, it could be time to replace the entire system. With the distribution box excavated (and none of the numerous underground wires and potable water line harmed), we found the field working well enough to proceed with excavating the pipe from the house to the septic tank. Webbys dug the 8’ pipe by hand and found the problem: a surface water drain pipe had been installed some years after the system was installed, crossing immediately above the soil pipe. That drain pipe subsequently clogged with debris from surface runoff and downspouts and crushed the soil pipe, causing it to break and drop 2”. When the soil pipe was removed, a second break was found under a sidewalk near the septic tank. Webbys were able to excavate under the sidewalk and cut off the broken pipe and replace the entire soil pipe, with an added cleanout. Great service, lots of ingenuity, and less than 10% of the cost of a new septic system. Highly recommended!”
