I would definitely won the appeal and counter suit if had a different judge because of the grounds and statement for the claim was false in every sentence. They've since sold the house, and even had the nerve to featured photos of the deck on the Realtor website. They sued for the material money and reimbursement for payment to another contractor to demo the deck. However, if they were going to even consider having removed why would they seal and stain the deck? Because they never intended on removing the deck and just wanted to get out of paying for the labor and get there money back for the entire project. I reached out to resolve this matter several times in several ways they never wanted reach any settlement except get out of paying 1 cent for the work and materials provided.
