Deco-Pour & Harvey Construction

Deco-Pour™ Decorative Overlayment, developed and patented in 2001, was Jim Harvey’s answer to the inconsistencies and lack of control associated with polished concrete. As Owner of Harvey Construction, Inc. in Washington State, Jim chose to address the challenges presented to the first concrete polishers, instead of being defeated by them. Polished concrete was in its infancy, and at that time concrete was not expected to be anything but grey. Deco-Pour™ was developed to give the end-user the ability to receive a consistent looking integrally colored and polished floor system. In addition to working with a consistent floor, there was also the desire to be able to topically add color. The industry’s first remedy to creating topical color was to utilize acid based stains, and then acetone based dyes. These remedies brought their own issues of consistency and applicator safety. Jim took this new challenge to heart as he began working with his chemist on formulating solutions.
