“I was introduced to House of Style through the recommendation of a friend. I had been putting off getting blinds for my kitchen and family room for ages. I talked with Don about my options for the kitchen widows. I have a bay window and a large casement window above my sink. Because our house backs up to woods, I did not want to lose any of my beautiful view. He showed me some plantation blinds did not use cords. I liked the idea of no cords! He made an appointment to stop by with his color samples to see if we could match the blinds to the windows’ trim. We found a perfect match. I have my view and also a way to block the sunlight. I can't decide if I like looking at them in daylight or at night. My family room has a five window bay and a door out to a deck. I thought that I wanted plantation blinds there as well. After some discussion, I told Don that I loved the look of shutters, but thought they would cost a bit too much. Don left a sample shutter for me to study and gave me an estimate of the cost of shutters. Not as bad as I thought it would be. So now I am really interested! After much discussion about options, I decided on 3 1/2 inch plantation shutters with the invisible lift bar in the back. It also has a split bar so that I can open the top and bottom slats independently. This is a great option for winter. I did not want anything to obstruct my view of the woods. This option gave me a clear line of sight, without any extra vertical bars or lines to distract from the view. We put the same shutters on the door for a finished look. Don’s workmanship is excellent! He measured carefully making sure that the shutters were in perfect alignment, even though my window casings varied in size from one side to the other. It is amazing the difference it makes in this room. Beautiful, isn’t it. Thank you, Don! Sue Berron”

“I have Halcyon shades in all windows in my house in Southern California that get sun and I love them. Unlike most products advertised as solar shades, these are transparent allowing undistorted views to the outside while providing some measure of invisibility for those looking from the outside into the house. They reflect sunlight unlike most solar shades which block a part of the sun coming in. The metallization of a plastic film is the same technology used to manage heat on satellites out in space. They mount on the inside of the window and can be raised or lowered the same way any window shade can be adjusted. In some windows, I use them in conjunction with more opaque coverings. The only issue I have is that I'd like to put them in my retirement home and so far, haven't found anyone willing to figure out the Halcyon connection. Still looking though. Finally, because of the technology, they only come in limited "colors", silvery and pale brown; they are not a substitute for standard sun-blocking shades.”
