Carmen & Sons Concrete

Unfortunately, I can say with confidence that we will never hire this company again. We had several quotes to seal our stamped concrete driveway. Carmen and Sons did not come in at the cheapest (one of our highest, actually) but we were swayed by Adam and Daniel who came out to give the estimate. When they came, they also encouraged us to seal our front porch. They seemed to know what they were doing and have integrity. Neither one of those turned out to be the case. The job went really poorly on a lot of levels. The biggest issue is that the sealant should never have been used on a painted porch. (I think initially they thought it was stained, but they never checked and they also used the can of paint to touch up places where painted chipped off from the power washing - then sealed it, with the wet paint, within about half an hour.) Immediately the product began to pull up paint and wrinkle. After Daniel left, I also noticed sealant all over the bottom edges of our siding around the garage doors and around the front porch (I was later told on a call “sealant doesn’t stick to siding”…?) and bubbles throughout the sealant on our stamped concrete driveway and walkways. Carmen and Sons’ solution was to take $100 off our balance because that is the proportion that the front porch was to the entire job. This is laughable to me - that is what the quote should have been to start with! That doesn’t take into account ANY of the damage. They ended up taking off more than that, but not enough for us to pay for the issues to be resolved. There was no apology or accountability - just annoyance that we wanted the job done right (and to have the balance adjusted for what it is going to cost us to remedy). In the end, we are left with sealant on all edges of our siding, bubbles throughout the stamped concrete sealant, and a really rough looking porch floor. We also have the headache in the spring (as it is now too cold) of hiring someone to remove the sealant from our siding, our front porch floor, and a painter to repaint our porch.

The sons got the job done in two weeks and worked incredible hard. My old patio was nearly 20 years old, old as my house and broken to ashes. The replaced with a larger size and got the job done in two weeks. Concrete quality is great and glad I chose them.

Adam explained all sorts of ideas and options and drew out a patio that best fit all of our needs. His professional and courteous crew came today and completed the job and the real thing is even more spectacular than it looked on paper. We are thrilled with the style, the finishing touches, and the quality of the work. Our experience from beginning to end was nothing short of spectacular.

They took care of our sidewalks and replaced them in short amount of time. Made life for our dental office easy to work with hours of operation being flexible with patients. The job looks great and glad I found them from the chambers of commerce.

Spent 6k dollars USD to have them pour a 20x20 cement pad at 6" of concrete and 6" of gravel substrate and they poured a pad that at the edges were 3" thick. The work that was done was a pad that was 20' on one side, 20'5" on another side, 21" on the next side, and 20'1" on the final side. Not a square. The garage alley side edge is not straight. It is not level (has small hills and valleys) And it has a high spot on the what will be the garage door opening side that is 2" higher than the rest of pad at 4' out from that corner. Called multiple times, was told they would come out to look and Lucy has yet to call me back or show up at the property. Please stay away from this company, I should have read the reviews here before engaging with them.

I had my patio done in stamp pattern cement by another group and Andy the young suggested against the idea last year when I was gathering quotes. The funny part is that he didn’t even want to quote the job and that his quote would be the highest and he was correct. This year my concrete my 1 year old patio is horrible, and it’s peeling and cracking all over.... Not one contractor wanted to come out once they hear stamp except for Andy. He suggested to repair and seal it to prevent future problems or to rip it out.... The crew did a great job salvaging the patio. Next time I will only install regular cement. Great company all around.

Hired these pros this year during September to install new sidewalks in between my driveway. I had to have my plumbing fixed under our cable lines and the majority of people in Elmwood Park recommended them for cement contractors. So I had high expectations in which the son and his crew went above and beyond. I am thankful for my wonderful neighborhoods that have used them in the previous past. That saved me time, money and headaches. Most of all, the young men spoke english and were very considerate of what I needed done. One thing to add, I had two other contractors give me a price but they wanted me to get the permit which was shady but with Carmen's that was not a problem because they pull permits with no extra fees. When it comes choosing time for who to hire, give it to people that have experience. I had to learn that the hard way in my past experience with other contractors.

Great experience fixing my steps and replacing my sidewalk. The communication was easy and made my life easier because they got the permit. That’s one of the reasons why I chose Carmen and sons concrete because they took care of all the paperwork.

I recommend these concrete experts for anyone who needs repair work done on any type of steps. They work swiftly and at good rate. Most other contractors told me to replace my steps but at the moment during this covid-19 I don’t have the funds so this was my best option in which I am glad I chose Carmon and sons concrete experts.

They did an outstanding job on my patio, love the finished project. Clean and professional crew. No problems, very lean back in which I respect from every company. I recommend them to all in the Chicago neighborhoods.

They helped me fix my steps for a cheaper rate than completely replacing my steps. I also did not want to deal with the village hall with a permit. My steps look great, the company was nice and organized.

I am impressed with there service, they did an outstanding job on my mother's steps. Job was done rather quick and communication was excellent. They did all the paperwork for my mother's house, including permits plus certificates for her townhouse. I recommend to the Chicago public for there construction service. I super glad we got the job done right in time before this first snow fall.
