Chris Hall and his team at Horizon Outdoor Design LLC did an amazing job completely renovating our backyard and patio. It was big job for our family, but they helped us understand the process to ensure we were all on the same page and comfortable with the project from the outset. One of the reasons we went with Horizon was the expertise, experience, and communication style that was apparent right away when dealing with Chris Hall. I am sure he is happy to have moved on from our project because I was asking questions or confirming details regularly that he took with amazing patience! I received a lot of quotes for the job and Horizon’s prices were very comparable to the other companies, but again it was Chris’s communication and experience that led us to choose Horizon. His crew, led by Juan, was on time, respectful of our yard/property, cleaned up at the end of each day. The crew worked very hard from start to finish all the while checking to make sure we were all on the same page. When encountering any areas of confusion, we huddled and quickly adjusted to keep moving forward as need be. We appreciated their flexibility as there were some work order changes and dealing with other contractors (deck, tree removal, BGE Home, electrician, etc) along the way. We couldn’t be happier with Horizon from start to finish. They completed the job exactly how it was discussed and completed on the timeline we had planned. I would highly recommend them to any family, friend, or stranger! I have included a before and after picture. Horizon completed all of the demo, land grading, concrete pad under the hot tub, and installation of concrete pavers (accent and large).

I needed my small backyard to be re-graded and sodded, and they did a great job. I was particularly impressed by the responsiveness of the owners (specifically Chris, who I worked with). He promptly called me back to schedule an estimate, he was able to get my project on the schedule exactly when I wanted, and he responded to my email questions within a couple hours. The price was good too---a bit less than comparable quotes from other companies. I would highly recommend this company and would hire them again in the future.

I had three retaining walls replaced along with steps and a landing pad leading to the front door of my home. I could not be happier with Mike and his crew that worked on the project. Mike came up with great ideas on design and materials and he responded quickly to my questions and had great suggestions. The new retaining walls, steps and landing are incredible and exceeded my expectations. Mike also added lights under the caps of the walls and up the steps. The crew also removed shrubs mulched and I had them outline the flower bed with stone edges. The crew was prompt, professional and worked great together. I would recommend them to anyone that needs this type of work to be done. Thanks to Mike and his crew I now have a house with great curb appeal.

Chris Hall worked with us on two separate projects. The first was a new paver driveway and pavers that connected that driveway to our front entrance with a new retaining wall. The project required two different types of pavers, and specialized drainage under the driveway. The second project was a large landscaping project in the front of our house with landscape lighting. This project also needed to include native plants to fulfill the requirements of a critical areas variance that we obtained on our waterfront home. Chris and his crew worked with us to design everything and the installation was efficient and high quality. Changes and alterations that occurred along the way were handled without problems. I have nothing but high praise for Chris and Horizon Outdoor Design. I recommend them without reservation.

Mike Cole, the owner, was prompt in returning our initial phone call and providing us with a fair and competitive bid. His crew did a fabulous job and we are more than pleased with the results. What was even more impressive was Mike's knowledge of his business and his awareness of working within our budget. An incredible experience!! We will be doing some more work next year and Mike will be our only call.

I have been working with Chris for 5 years now and am very happy with everything he and his crew has done. Chris always returns phone calls and is very prompt for appointments. Mike provided a beautiful vision for our retaining wall and natural stone patio, which was executed flawlessly. Furthermore, he fixed our issue with water drainage and still water, plus the access between our multiple desks. During the project, the team worked diligently for hours and left the work area organized when the day was completed. The landscape turned out gorgeous with the Japanese maple, knockout roses, and greenery and the boulders. We enjoy the space immensely.

I've used Horizon Outdoor Design twice now, on a front walk way and on a backyard patio. Both times Mike and his team provided excellent work. Not only was the work top notch, but Mike has a wealth of information and ideas to set us up going forward. Would highly recommend!

My wife and I wanted a new patio and landscaping. Horizon's sales team provided multiple options from which to choose. Once selected, they provided excellent workmanship at a fair and reasonable price. We are extremely pleased with our new patio.

They were prompt, reliable and did great work. They designed everything and the landscaping was beautiful. I love my new patio and would hire them again!

Project No. 1 – Backyard Patio – Replaced an existing at grade wood patio with concrete pavers and replaced existing wooden retaining walls with concrete stacked block walls. Reinforced concrete foundations were incorporated into the walls to allow the installation of a pergola by others. The foundations were encased in the same concrete stacked blocks as the walls and capped with bluestone caps, which required a cut out in the center to allow the pergola support post to connect to the foundation. Mike and the wall supplier worked with us to develop a method to construct the pergola foundations as pedestals within the retaining walls. Work also included low voltage lighting, subgrade drainage, grading and restoring the disturbed areas. Project No. 2 – Front Walk – Installed a new sidewalk with concrete pavers and new steps to the front porch and a decorative pillar. Services included selection and installation of foundation plantings around entire house. We also required minor cosmetic foundation repairs and Mike was able to provide us with contact information with a mason and a painter, both of whom provided excellent services. Both went very well. Project 1 occurred in Summer/Fall 2015. Project 2 occurred in Spring 2016. If an unforeseen issue arose during construction, Mike worked with us to come up with alternative method to achieve what we wanted.
