“Gayle Burbank is a pleasure to work with. We have worked together in my business as well as in my home (out door plantings NYC terraces) for many years. I would highly recommend her as an asset to any project she is interested to pursue.”
Philippe Soule Landscape Design
Landscape Architects & Designers in Stone Ridge
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsMarch 19, 2014
“Philippe Soule has worked with me for the past four years to design, install, expand and maintain the gardens around my home in Columbia County. While most of the jobs pictured on his web site are city or town gardens, my property is a country house of relatively recent construction. Some work had been done at the property by a different contractor, but it was not properly scaled to the house and was not satisfactory. Philippe listened extremely well to my own ideas, and came up with a new planting plan that was responsive to my parameters while introducing wonderful new elements that I never would have come up with. He was able to make use of almost all of the plant material that was already on-site (though it was moved around and significantly augmented). He has a great sense of proportion and composition, and he knows his plants. The job involved laying out extensive new beds, and Philippe and his team laid them out well and brought in significant soil to make sure that everything would be properly planted. The initial planting looked very good the first year, but really came into its own in year two. Plants were thoughtfully selected to ensure year-round interest. Since Philippe's initial planting, he has added to the gardens with significant new plantings (some new beds near the house, and more trees around the property) each year. Philippe and his team have done all of the garden maintenance, and they keep the place looking great. His team are conscientious and professional. I could not be happier with their work.”

“I wanted a unique Brooklyn backyard that was striking and pleasing. Something that maximized its size, shape, sun and shade. I believe that was accomplished to the max. FireDean was always up front with time and cost. He provided a blueprint and photoshop picture of the finished garden and an itemized list of all plants, material and labor costs. Any changes were agreed upon beforehand. The stonework took a little longer than expected because of his attention to detail. Our back and forth communication was always prompt and complete. I trust FireDean to always do excellent work. He prides himself on his finished product and pleasing his customer. He did both in my case. I know I'll have years of pleasure with my backyard. ELM Garden Design

Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsMarch 26, 2015
“Working with Eustacia from ELM Garden Design was a distinct pleasure. Eustacia's professional training in, and knowledge of, landscape design combined with her knowledge of every type of plant and tree conducive to the geographic location of the project in Sullivan County, NY, made for a successful collaboration between homeowner and contractor. Eustacia and her partner Paul (a master craftsman in his own right with stonework and masonry, and all things requiring building and tools!) were always accessible and responsive. They truly were "hands-on", from selecting specimens from a nursery that met their high expectations to doing and/or supervising the actual plantings. Prior to using ELM, I had used other landscapers whose work was acceptable & functional but in retrospect paled in comparison both as to imagination and the ability to work in an environment in which the elements of nature needed to be considered and incorporated. ELM basically took over a landscape design that was functional but lacked imagination. By the time we sold the house, one of the top selling points were the beautiful plantings and gardens, along with certain stonework, created and maintained by them. Eustacia's design vision also is very keen, but she was also a good listener as to what as homeowners we wanted and envisioned, which she was able to articulate both in a design plan and then in the finished project. And on top, Eustacia and Paul are "good people"; a pleasure to have worked with them for so many years. The project date listed is an estimate of when we began, as the length stretched over 5 or more years, and involved annually adding additional elements as we began to see how certain aspects of the project developed and matured (which accounts for the wide range of project cost, which was spread over a number of years, the total closer to the lower end of the scale stated). We worked with them continuously until we sold the property. I give them the highest recommendation.”
LDAW Landscape Architecture, PC

“LDAW remodeled my pool and plantings for the landscape around the pool. They also designed the plantings for the front of my home. This is an extremely professional organization and I would use them again. Estimates are done by the owner and his drawings will explain exactly what to anticipate. The laborers are on time, reliable and take a lot of pride in their work. The owner is available and will return calls if need be. I cannot see how things could have gone better for both of these large projects for my home.”
One Nature

“Bryan Quinn of One Nature advised me on the planning and design of a wetland improvement project funded through the Natural Resources Conservation Service involving development of two ponds and restoration of native habitats within the surrounding areas comprising about 15 acres.. After evaluating site conditions and laying out an overall conceptual plan for habitat zones, nature trails and observation points, he prepared a detailed plan and specs for planting groves of trees, site maintenance and circulation for areas immediately surrounding the ponds as well as supervision of site work. The work went quickly, on schedule and Mr. Quinn was very professional, generous with time and paid attention to detail, and within budget.”

“Hortulus Animae - Mindful Garden Design created a gorgeous front walk way for our home - railings, lighting and blue slate steps. I was not a fan of railings and worried that although they were necessary, they would look big and clunky. I was thrilled with Jean-Marc's unique and beautiful vine railings that are perfect for the setting. We get compliments on them every time we have guests. He was also quick to make sure they were as functional as they are beautiful. We feel very grateful for his vision!”

“Richard is a very professional personable and well versed landscape artist! I have used Richard to landscape my home, my courtyard, and have recommended his services to my neighbor(used Richard) and friends! Richard has extensive knowlege of perenials, bushes, trees, soil, top dressings, and how best to feature each plant in the garden! He has a very high work ethic and guarantees his work and his plants! Richard will often stop by to check on the plants to see how they are doing and if there is a better location in the garden for the plant, he will replant! Richard's work ethic is superb, and his workers also! Don't hesitate to contact him and see the magic he can perform in your garden for all season color! The Crafted Garden

“I enjoy doing my own gardening, but needed help creating a cohesive design for my 1-acre lawn. Susan of The Crafted Garden evaluated my property, listened to my ideas, and then created a landscape design that could be implemented in stages. She provided drawings, including transparencies over pictures of our existing garden to help us envision the change. She consulted us at each stage, telling us what to expect in costs of labor and plant material. With Susan's crew, we began in Fall '13, altering the site's hard scape, then fine-tuned the beds and planted this spring, completing the first and largest phase of the work. Susan reoriented the approach to our home, widened beds, and created a planting scheme that tied the different areas together, incorporating native species that provide good habitats for birds. Susan and her crew were prompt, worked very quickly, and left the site clean. They accomplished in two weekends what would have taken me 6 months. Susan provided information about what we needed to do to keep our plants healthy -- watering schedules, mulch, etc. it has been exciting to see the the plants flourish and to envision the garden's continuing maturity. (I have inadequate pictures taken with my phone, but will post pictures at another date.) We had a positive experience and I learned a great deal about the process. When we began, I was focused on the plants to be chosen. But it was Susan's careful preparation -- curving a walk here, arcing a bed there -- that showcased our home's best features, and set the stage for a garden that offers us color and lovely scent throughout the seasons. Based on my experience, I highly recommend Susan as a creative and knowledgeable partner.”
