I had my back hill completely terraced by MBK Custom Derian Pools and it’s incredible. The hillside is steep and had some damage from all the rain. Juan and his crew started this big job 3/20/24 and finished in 2 1/2 weeks despite rain delays. They resolved drainage issues, built wood retaining walls , staircases, new fence and laid down stabilized granite on the walk ways. I now have access to a large piece of my property that was previously inaccessible. I would highly recommend this company for any landscaping projects you are considering.

For about 4 years now we had been considering redoing our backyard/patio and pool. We bought the house 8 years ago which was built in 1948. It was the worst house in the neighborhood and we had to gut the inside and remodel in order to make it livable. However doing that didn’t leave any money left at the time to redo the patio and pool that was an addition built in 1958. In order to get an idea of what we wanted things to look like, we got a Shrubhub account and had their design team help us do a 3D rendering of how we envisioned the remodel of patio, outdoor kitchen, and pool. That was a good move and it didn’t cost much. They had a few good suggestions and we got several edit passes to make sure the final design is something we really liked. Also, we knew it would be helpful to put in front of potential contractors. After meeting with several different pool remodeling contractors (including MBK) and getting quotes, we realized we needed to put away more $$$ and decided to wait for a little bit. Of course right about that time Covid hit and well everything stopped. So fast forward to spring 2023 and we decided it was time to get it done because we couldn’t stand looking at the decades of hap hazard mess from previous owners from the last 7 decades. Imagine rust colored tile, flagstone patio tiles, a red brick smoker / fireplace with a falling chimney, pool coping that was buckling, etc. etc. We met with a few of the contractors again and decided that MBK was the right fit and the work would begin in June. First of all, let me lead with this. Billy and Kerri are great and the team(s) of professionals they use are amazing. Hands down the best contractors we've ever had!! We can't say enough good things. The work is great and they were actually ahead of schedule. Even with some changes to our initial Shrubhub design at their suggestion and a couple of unforeseen fixes (again patio / pool built in 1958), they were still ahead and doing great work. Even though there was a lead foreman on site, Kerri would come by a few times a week to manage and make sure that everything was being built according to plan. That wasn’t the case with a couple of contractors that worked on the interior of our house, so we were extremely happy that she was present often and letting us know what was happening every step of the way. The project has now been finished for about 2 months now. There was a little work left to do on our outdoor fireplace at the center of our outdoor kitchen they designed and that was finished a few weeks ago. Everything looks amazing and better than the initial 3D renderings we had. We are so happy that we asked them to work a couple of other projects in our home (they don’t only do pools) and plan to start those in the spring 2024. If you need to remodel or do a pool / patio from scratch, I highly recommend MBK. Use them!!! And, I’m sure when they finish our next project I’ll be writing a review recommending them for interiors.

I was told many different stories as I interviewed pool contractors. Each gave me assurances and made lofty promises that I knew they would not be able to keep..............until I contacted Derian Pools. I was building a pool in a difficult to reach and even harder to engineer upslope property. Billy at Derian pools immediately acknowledged the difficulty, made no promises, but quickly laid out a plan to make things start happening. He guided us through design, budgeting, engineering, and into permitting. And then we met Kerri. She restored our confidence in contractors over the course of our project. She was regularly present, always responsive, attentive to our input, and honest even when we might not like what she was going to tell us. Her crew was talented, creative, and worked harder than I could have imagined to hand dig a pool and carry materials uphill. And they never complained. At the end of all of this we have a pool that few really thought could be built that looks like it was always meant to be here. Given the chance to work with Kerri, Billy, and Juan I wouldn't hesitate. If someone promises you miracles from the start run the other way. But if someone is honest, clear, and willing to work you might just get there like we did.

The team at Derian Pools is amazing! They were on time, very communicative and on budget! We made the mistake of originally choosing another pool construction company. We learned very quickly the difference in having a good pool construction company compared to a bad one. The first company submitted plans that were rejected by the city. Plans that any pool builder should know would have been rejected. Waiting months for permits, we constantly had to chase the other pool company for answers. After months and months of excuses, we fired the original pool construction company and hired Derian. It was the best choice we made in the entire process. Within weeks, the plans were approved, permits pulled and construction had begun. What we learned from the process is that a good pool company has their subcontractors all lined up to execute a job quickly and efficiently. It was obvious that the first pool company was saying yes to new business and figuring out their plan later. Whereas Derian already had all their ducks in a row and were ready to move quickly. Kerri at Derian is amazing and was able to make our back yard a dreams come true.

When we decided to get a pool at our house in West Hollywood near Hollywood Hills, there was a lot of uncertainty--do we have enough space for pool, would city approve pool to be built in the front yard of our HPOZ property, and would we be able to afford it. We embarked on this project with very little knowledge of what it takes to construct a pool, cost of maintenance etc. but knew in this post-covid craziness we need a sanctuary for our two young kids. We started to lookup online and were astonished by so many homeowner's bad experiences with inexperienced pool contractors with construction taking over 6 months and cheap materials leading to unexpected downstream repair costs. Fortunately with divine grace, we found Kerri McCoy of Custom Derian Pools! They had excellent reviews (as you can tell). Billy from sales showed up promptly, he was super knowledgeable and quickly identified all potential issues we may be facing given our situation. We got a detailed (all-inclusive) quote in writing along with 3D imagery of the pool design. City permits were submitted promptly, but approval took a while. After requiring some modification to original plans, the City approved it (yay). We didn't need soil samples. Within a week of this approval, Kerri got the whole project rolling. She is a super-woman! Custom pools is what she does along with anything and everything that goes around it (full landscaping etc). She is very very efficient, she has a wonderful team of skilled and courteous workers. Ones the project started, it was like a clockwork...workers showed up on time, worked around the clock, knew what they were doing (without Kerri watching over them), were very courteous, and didn't leave until the work was done. It started with demolition, then came a mini Bobcat for excavation/dig, followed by steel rebar install, and trench digging for plumbing. Every step of the way Kerri would swing by to make sure project was on time and meeting the standards. We have a number of planned city inspections and passed each one without a hitch. Gunite was the highlight of whole process since it transformed the big hole in the ground into actual concrete pool. Then came the masons. We chose edge-to-edge concrete decking around the pool which made the small space look bigger. We chose black/white "Greek Key" tiles and "cool blue" pebblesheen plaster. We now have our 25x11 heated pool with 7x5 spa and auto pool cover. We chose "black" Poolpro cover which traps heat and in summer we never have to heat the pool. Jandy pool equipment (pump, gas heater, ozone purifier, filter) is very high quality, energy efficient, quiet and all fully remote automated. Whole project took around 3 months after city approval. We got to know Kerri who is an incredibly kind and genuine person. Thanks to her we have a high-end elegantly modern pool and the whole process was exciting, painless and without surprises. We really appreciate you making this so smooth! We ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!

Kerri, Billy and the team are simply fantastic. It's incredibly rare that you hire ANYONE who does what they say they will do; when they say they'll do it and for the price originally quoted. THAT describes Derian. My wife and I have gone through multiple construction projects so we had more than a few experiences with partners. What separates this group is not only their professionalism--every sub was above and beyond--but they were able to add creatively to our vision. What's more, looking at their other projects, ours was on the more conservative end of the price scale. It didn't matter. Not only did we feel we received the same attention to detail, but Kerri's communication throughout was consistent, timely and thorough. Give this team a call. You won't be disappointed. From the minute we spoke to Billy, we knew we were in competent and creative hands to help us design and create a backyard makeover! Kerri solidified any concerns with professional and calm reassurance. She came up with minor changes to not only insure the safety for my young grandchildren, but also ideas that would excite and beautify the entire project. The entire Derian crew created an entire new yard featuring a beautiful pool and spa as well as an outdoor kitchen and hardscape. Everyone we worked with were friendly, professional and took pride in their work. Kerri and her crew provided our own little backyard vacation.

We were sold on a UV/Ozone pool system by Kerri and Billy of Derian Pools. What we learned when ordering replacement parts was that the needed parts are no longer available and we need a retrofit kit (which will still don’t have). When I went back to Kerri and Billy, I got nowhere. Billy never responded and Kerri said not her issue. So we are left with an impaired system after 2+yrs. We had other design/construction issues which we had to resolve ourselves but the UV/Ozone system is just unbelievable. Be CAREFUL in dealings with Kerri/Billy of Derian Pools. They do not stand behind their work/products.

Derian was rock solid from beginning to end. In spite of the world-wide shortage on just about everything you need to install a pool during the summer of 2021, they came through with high marks. The pool itself came out stunning, and we used Derian for design too. As well, the rest of the surrounding work they did (deck, hardscape, turf) was equally great. I knew we were going to love the pool. I didn't know we'd love it THIS MUCH. Great, great job.

Had a great and seamless experience working with Derian GC. Hired the team to build a very large fountain in my backyard in the West Hollywood Hills which was difficult due to consistent construction on sunset plaza and the fact that they had to dig out the space by hand because no machinery could logistically be brought behind the house. The team was very professional and my neighbors even mentioned to me how professional they were, especially Kerri. The fountain turned out better than expected and is loaded with easy technological features I can access with my iphone. Every was smooth and easy from initial design phase to post completion. I am actually sad in a way that our project is coming to an end. Final city inspection is tomorrow. What a joy this project of transforming my yard as been. Kerri and her team are so special. They were here every day working long hours and very clean, (since I am OCD that's important.) They are courteous , honest and work in the time frame promised . Kerri McCoy of Derian Pools is the best pool designer, builder and innovator in the pool business. Her company can build in easy or difficult locations and her workmanship is flawless. She designed and built our salt water zero edge/infinity pool on time and on budget (pictured on Derian/Houzz page). She even has a crew to do a weekly pool service who are also fabulous. Our architect recommended several other companies in addition to Derian but we made the right choice with Kerri. We recommend her and Derian Custom Pools with no hesitation and great enthusiasm.

We've worked with a lot of contractors in fixing up our single family home, and Derian has been far and away the best. From initial design/pricing stages to project completion, everyone involved was punctual, honest, and respectful. Our pool and hardscaping project was comparatively small but we received A+ customer service and attention anyway. Working with Kerri to coordinate the project was fantastic from start to finish. She was very communicative and made good aesthetic suggestions for the project. The construction team was easy to work with, very careful with our property, and meticulous in their work.

Derian Pools: Dream, Design, Deliver! We bought a fixer upper with an old pool from the 1970s. We knew we wanted to remodel with a midcentury modern design, but my husband who lives in the pool, also wanted a jacuzzi! My biggest concern was that the design and execution were delivered efficiently. After contacting multiple contractors, and asking many questions, we felt most comfortable with Derian Pools. Compared to other bids we received, (6 total), Derian Pools communicated with us and heard our vision, implemented their feedback based on their extensive experience with luxury pools, and was forthright about cost every step of the way. Keri has managed to pull together an expert crew whose work we witnessed firsthand for a two month period. From design, forethought, demolition, clean up, and every aspect of construction, the job was supervised efficiently and it progressed at a steady pace within the timeline offered. We had a slight setback due to rain (3 days), but nothing major considering the extent of the job. Our backyard is our favorite place to be...and our mid century modern pool is the crown jewel. We host many parties and it has been a pleasure to recommend Derian Pools to everyone that has asked. We can confidently do so, because the level work they deliver leaves zero room for regret!

She has just finished our pool and it is beautiful. Many unique features and an outdoor kitchen that is a dream to work in. Ms McCoy is easy to work with and made excellent suggestions. This is the third time I have worked with her and she continues to amaze me with her creativity and hard work.

Kerri was very professional and efficient. We were given an estimate of 5 weeks for construction and she delivered. We had a pool filled with water in exactly 5 weeks. We trusted Kerri completely with the process and the communication was great. She listened to everything we wanted. We highly recommend Kerri and her crew as I have already recommended her to multiple friends who are currently using her.

Derian collected over $100,000 from us, then abandoned the job, leaving a tremendous mess, refused to return even to clean it up, did not even mark the pipes and refused to cooperate in doing so for the benefit of another contractor, did a terrible job, many parts of which have to be fixed or redone. During the shotcrete pour, the hose broke, shooting shotcrete onto our property and beyond, and causing serious damage. Derian refused to turn it over to its insurance company even though the contract provided that we were to be named additional insureds, and then refused to provide documentation leading us to conclude that we were never named additional insureds even though we paid for that. We had to file a complaint with the Contractors' Board, which is being investigated.

Derian Pools just finished our backyard/pool project and we are thrilled with the results. The project was completed as scheduled and budgeted. All of the sub-contractors and Derian employees were very easy to work with and did an excellent job. They were hard working, neat, and respectful of us and our neighbors. Kerri communicated regularly and kept us updated throughout every step of the project. The final product is exactly what was envisioned through our 3D design images. The designer, Billy Derian, did an excellent job of listening to our wants/needs and created our perfect backyard oasis. We would highly recommend Custom Derian Pools to anyone looking to create a dream backyard!

We knew we had the right team from our first meeting. Billy came out and looked over our yard talked to us and immediately walked us through a plan that made sense for our home was in line with our design taste and solved the issues we had in our yard. It was a massive project of clearing out a large backyard the previous owner had left overgrown full of random plants and planters and shrubs (like a horror movie) and a yard that leveled up in the main portion with an odd ledge on the side. Then he looked at the front yard walked around it identified some design issues we had not thought of and suggested exactly what we went with.After the design and contract process (which was great and they worked with us on budget) Kerri took over for the construction This was a large project including front and backyard complete redesign, building a pool and hot tub, boccie ball court and fire pit. They were incredibly timely and the people working were great (side note, they were really sweet to my six year old who was curious about what they were doing and wanted to talk to them every Saturday) . The results are hard to describe. The backyard is an oasis and the front yard has curb appeal but is functional for parking. We are enjoying the pool every weekend and just used the fire pit for s'mores and the genius concrete bench that is attached to the pool.The transformation is unbelievable and anyone that sees it and has work to be done asks for their information. They were easy to work with through the process. I have and will continue to give out their contact to friends! I still text Kerri with random pool operation questions and they are 100% responsive and set us up with a pool service that is great. When they finished the first major project we knew we had to keep them for a smaller project we had in mind which was redoing our outside shed and taking a wall down in our house opening up the garage and building a bar. We immediately tacked on the work so they stayed on and the whole thing looks amazing. We have a more open area in the front of the house with a cool bar and the shed is stunning in a bright blue with an amazing design on the door. Here again they took time to make it really special asking my six year old for her favorite shape and designing the front shed door detail around it. So much resale value and also so personalized to us an our lives (with a 6 year old) Having worked with a couple contractors in the past I can say that these guys are the exception. Truly first rate.

I do have to start by saying that I don't think I have ever given anybody a 5 star rating before and I am proud to say this is my first. Building a pool in your backyard means building a relationship with a team that you trust, completely. From the moment I met Kerri and Billy (who helped put stunning design plans together) we clicked. I had a vision for our backyard and they immediately understood what we were going for. We had a tight deadline as we wanted to have our wedding reception and family over in our backyard over the summer and Kerri explained that she would do her best to ensure our backyard would be ready. And boy.. did she deliver. BBQ, Fire Pit, entertaining space, private curtained deck area off the bedroom, Jacuzzi, Pool, Waterfall, Planter boxes... It's like a tropical oasis that I get to enjoy every moment of every day. The team was reliable, kind, and one of the most hard working crews I've ever seen. Whenever I came home from work, everything was always put away and cleaned up so I never had to worry about my dog getting hurt if he was running around the yard. From design to execution to price... I think Derian Pools & Construction has the best out of anyone I've spoken to. I have no doubt in my mind that if you go with Derian Pools & Construction, that you won't end up 100% satisfied as I did. Don't get me wrong, there were a few bumps along the road, as there will be with any home renovation project, but Kerri was with us every step of the way to guide us and make sure our project turned out to exactly how we imagined it would. Custom Derian Pools is the gold standard in contracting. We did a major remodel (pool, bbq, half basketball court and fire pit). Despite the heavy rainfall, the project moved quickly and turned out beautifully. Billy helped us envision our dream backyard and Kerri made it a reality. I was reluctant to get my pool redone because I have have numerous bad experiences with contractors. I just didn't want to deal with another flake, that says they are going to do something but once they get paid, the rules change. Well let me tell you, Derian Pools has restored my faith in contractors. They came in accessed the job, gave me an estimate and after we agreed to go forward, they hit the ground running. They did what they said they were going to do, for the amount of money that we agreed on and did so in a quicker time frame than was originally agreed upon. Along they way, the employees were polite, cautious and clean. I couldn't have asked for more from them. Derian did an outstanding job of completely rejuvenating a 25-year old pool and spa at our HOA. The work included reconstruction of a large (1200+ sq. ft) concrete deck. The messy demolition of the deck and pool went smoothly and Kerri McCoy of Derian was very considerate of homeowners' concerns regarding noise and dust. The reconstruction work was done with obvious expertise by the subcontractors, but Kerri was on top of every step, and was always responsive to inquiries from our property manager and Board. There were some delays, due mostly to scheduling inspections. Otherwise, the work was completed on time. The HOA is very pleased with the result. We highly recommend Derian, for the quality of their work, their attention to the client, and their fair pricing.

My husband and I had an old school 1958 pool in need of a serious update. Derian Pools created a magical new pool and outdoor fireplace for us. They designed a Baja bench in the pool we never would have thought of, and we enjoy it all the time. The new Jacuzzi and waterfall effects are gorgeous.
