We are undertaking a major ($$$$) master bath renovation - a complete gut and incorporation of major upgrades - and purchased Interceramic Arundel Fortress tile ("13x13" and "20x20") for the floor and walk-in curbless shower. Based on our experience, the long story short on this tile is that there is nothing consistent about it, and we question whether there is any quality control in the manufacture process. It's almost as if we received four or five entirely different tiles.
1. First off, the "20x20" is nothing close to a nominal 20. I completely understand nominal vs. actual sizes on myriad materials, but the "20" turns out to be 19-1/4", which is well short of what one might expect; and what one might fairly expect would be 19-3/4" actual. This resulted in an on-the-fly adjustment to our shower floor, requiring 3/8 x 20 rips and two grout lines to fill at the wall line, a look we would rather have avoided.
2. The 13x13 is "something over" 13x13. These vary from shy of 13-1/8" (approx. 13-3/32 or so) to more than 13-3/16 (13-7/32). Most ranged from 13-1/8 to 13-3/16, which is still a huge variation from tile to tile if one desires to have a consistent grout line, and made the layout process extremely difficult.
3. There is substantial variation in thickness from tile to tile. While the "20x20" tile is substantially thicker than the "13x13", there is a good deal of variation in thickness even within the same tile size, particularly the 13x13. I use tile levelers and spacers, but there is no easy way to avoid lippage issues given the thickness variation in these tiles.
4. While any tile can have color/pattern variation, these tiles had completely different surface characteristics, ranging from virtually smooth to very cratered and slate-like, with color/pattern varying depending on the tile surface. It's as if someone simply boxed up two or three different tile styles in the same cartons.

Every time I have worked with Interceramic they have been very responsive to my request and delivered on time. Their products are generally a great pricepoint and they have a good range of options for different styles. I have used them both in work projects as well as in my own home and i can attest that their Solids in Design product specifically holds up very well and installs very easily.
