High Quality Stone Contractors in Escondido – Soapstone Expertise!
page_type: prop_plus_profile
Custom made counter tops from soapstone and other natural stones. We also do fireplaces, barbecues, birdbaths, and anything you can think of with stone!
As a stone sculptor, stone fabricator, and experienced tile setter, Greg Bergmann observed a growing interest in Soapstone in California. Greg began importing soapstone slabs for use by craftsmen wanting to install stone counters themselves. As the interest and demand grew, Greg realized there was a need for a supply of high quality soapstone and it’s installation. In 2004 Greg and his wife Wendy created Soapstone West. A few months later that year they assembled a team with Greg as the licensed general and specialty contractor for the company.
In 2008 Greg and Wendy made the decision to rebrand as Soapstone Werks, furthering their passion for the soapstone medium. Their vision was clear: provide excellent high quality soapstone, professional installation, offering custom sink and other specialty projects built with an artistic approach that can be incorporated into the practical applications of soapstone.
We take great pride in our service and our knowledgable staff will see to it your questions are answered and needs met. Soapstone is becoming the choice for sinks, countertops and other uses because of its unique properties and inviting look and feel so it doesn’t have to be “sold”, soapstone sells itself. See what sets Soapstone Werks apart from the rest. Fine craftsmanship and quality stone at its best!

Absolutely one of the most amazing family owned business that I have ever been blessed to work with. From my initial contact with owner/operator/customer service agent Wendy I quietly prayed that they were really as perfect as I wanted them to be. I wasn't disappointed! I was desperate! My 100 year old historic Spanish Revival home was without a kitchen sink. Because of it's odd size the only option was a stainless steel sink. Actually that was never an option! After sharing with Wendy that I had been doing dishes while showering she immediately cleared her calendar for the following day. Early the next morning Wendy was showing me around their yard filled with a variety of slabs. We both knew when we found the perfect one. She was as excited as I was! She promised to do everything she could to make sure my days of doing dishes in the shower were numbered and to keep me posted via pictures! In less than two weeks I get the call that her husband and fabricators Greg and son Sean would here the next morning. Right on time "the boys" arrive ....fortunately for me...unfortunately for Sean he is sick as a dog but had gotten out of bed to make this install happen. Within 2 hours the most prized item in our home is installed. I will be forever grateful to them for blessing our home with such a beautiful piece of art!

Soapstone Werks helped us from beginning to end. Our granite slabs were beautiful but made up of so many different types of stone/granite that they were difficult to work with.
Soapstone Werks communicated the difficulties and we came up with a plan. They also helped reinforce the space for our farmhouse sink and bar area. Their knowledge and attention to detail enabled them to create our gorgeous granite kitchen counters!

Soapstone Werks fabricated my counters ten years ago and did a fantastic job. Recently I had a question and they were more than happy to help. They stand behind their work which is rare in todays world. I highly recommend Greg and his crew.

We had a disappointing (and what will be expensive) experience with Soapstone Werks. They sold and fabricated a slab for our 9x4 kitchen island with a blemish that covers about a 1/5th of the material. They sent us a photo before purchase where the blemish was difficult to detect. They sold and cut the stone without any warning. The owner did come take a look at it initially, but they told us it would go away with oiling. Oil only made the blemish worse, as it became pronounced.
We've been trying to contact Soapstone Werks for 6 months with no response. We thought they may have gone out of business, but based on their voicemail greeting, they are still operating.
After spending so much time and money on a new kitchen, we are sadly disappointed our center island has a 2' blemish across the edge. We have no recourse and the island cost us over $3,000 - ouch.
We understand this is a natural stone, but to fabricate such an expensive piece of stone (they sold you) without any warning of a large blemish is not standard practice for stone suppliers/fabricators. This company clearly does not care about their work or their customers, buyer beware.

Comment from Soapstone Werks:
What makes natural stone beautiful is the natural veins and markings. We are sorry that this client feels she is not happy with the product she chose. We encourage all of our customers to choose there stone and come out for a layout of the stone. This stone was put on a very beautiful kitchen island in a beautiful home. The job was accepted and paid for a year and half ago. We hope that she will find the beauty in the living patina of soapstone.
We want our customers to be happy but also understand the natural stone process
Thank you so much,
Wendy

Greg and Wendy were a true pleasure to work with. Perfect combination of expertise/experience and willingness to work outside the box. We had them leather our soapstone slab for the kitchen island and install hand hammered nickel sinks, neither of which they had done before. I'm sure it was more work than they realized, but they did a terrific job, made sure it was perfect and were very kind, honest and easy to work with. Beautiful craftsmanship and very professional.

I was referred to this company by another counter top dealer in the area, who said they were the best. He didn't lie. Wendy is extremely knowledgeable about the different types of soapstone, and was very patient with me in helping me to pick out a slab. They also offered me the option of telling them how I wanted it oriented/cut. I left that to them, as they are the experts and artists, and I was very pleased with how it came out. There was a problematic area, where the window sill and counter top met. They brought their tools, and fabricated that small piece on-site, so that it would be a perfect fit. The veins in the stone on the counter top and that piece, match up perfectly.
I don't have pics to post, but I will say that the counter tops are absolutely perfect. There is not even the slightest flaw or mistake anywhere. Also, the installation crew was the most respectful of any that worked on the kitchen remodel. They cleaned the area really well when they were done. They took the time to answer any questions I had, and encouraged me to ask questions.
Although this company is in my neighborhood, their reputation extends will beyond it, and deservedly so. If you want soapstone counter tops, or sinks, and you live in SoCal, give them a call. You won't regret it!

Our experience with Soapstone Werks was great from beginning to end! Wendy and Greg were very helpful (and patient) and answered all out our questions about soapstone and quartz. They helped us pick out slabs and then spent a lot of time laying out the templates with us so that we could get the exact look we wanted. Greg does excellent work fabricating and installing, and we couldn't be happier.

I could not more highly recommend this company! Greg and Wendy are so knowledgeable and friendly. They spent over an hour with us when we first went in to pick out the soapstone slabs for our new master bath. Then they held them for a year and a half while we actually built the master bath. During that time we realized we had some special fitting issues with our tub faucet set. I spoke with Greg and he said they would do whatever it would take to make it work. It was complicated and he bent over backwards working with my husband and me to make it right. And it is right. Greg and his crew installed our tub deck and vanity top last week and did a fabulous job. It was a fascinating process to watch. You wouldn't want someone who doesn't totally know what they are doing installing you soapstone. SoapstoneWerks is the seller, fabricator and installer. They are on it every step of the way. I couldn't be happier with their work.
