“In late 2011 my wife and I decided to do a major remodeling of our en-suite master bathroom of a 30+ year old house that we have been living in for the past 13+ years. Based on our awareness of Frey’s strong reputation for their quality of remodeling work and referrals, we made the decision out of many options to go with Frey. My wife worked closely with the Frey Designer over a period of a few weeks to develop the design, selection of all of the equipment choices of custom cabinets, sinks, fixtures, toilets, reconstruction of the shower area, lighting and color schemes – we were also helped by the Frey Designer for appointments to the various suppliers to make our final decisions. We were surprised how efficiently the installation and construction process took when there were so many sequencing steps needed. The crew was always polite and very careful about working inside our house. And the Designer/Project Manager was always available to answer questions that came up during the process. And everything was completed on budget! In September 2012 when we noted our 30+ year gutters were beginning to leak, my wife and I made a decision to replace our gutters quickly, including leaf protection, so we would not have to clean out our gutters in the Fall, this year or future years. As mentioned above, we previously had Frey remodel our master en-suite bathroom and this work made a huge difference and exceeded our expectations such that we knew Frey would be our clear choice for either inside or outside remodeling. It is quite amazing the difference a beautiful bathroom area makes as to how you feel when you realize how many hours of your life you spend in your bedroom/bathroom area. Until the Frey salesman explained it to us, we didn’t realize how many options we had to get the right mix of choice for gutters to meet our needs. We chose the Absolute Gutter because it carries more water and it is seamless so leaks don’t develop like traditional gutters. And the patented Big Mouth downspout connection for better water flow away from the gutter made a lot of sense. And when we included the Leakproof gutter protection we now don’t have to worry about cleaning out leaves and debris from the gutters. The Frey installation team did a great job doing the work, was very friendly and took extra care to look after our garden plants and bushes around the edge of the house. However, when the gutters were installed late in September we got a big surprise when the job had been completed. The new gutters added a great architectural impact relative to the standard gutters we previously had. We now recognized comparatively that the old gutters had visually interfered with the line between the roof and the wall. The lines and texture of the Absolute Gutters totally merged into the lines of the roofing and the wood walls. Not only do we now have better functioning gutters, an aesthetically more satisfying look, no leaves to clean out each Fall, I know we have added value to our house. And seven months since the gutters were installed and after torrential and for what seemed like continuous rains in this past Spring, we could not be happier about how the heavy water flows immediately clear our house area. These experiences with Frey Remodeling made them the natural choice to examine the attic area in March 2013 when we discovered that too much heat was escaping into our attic area. Scott Frey came out and went throughout the attic and discovered our 30+ year insulation was no longer effective and that heat was also escaping through ceiling light fixtures. And the most critical discovery was that the 30+ year ceiling light fixtures did not meet today’s code and in fact were a potential fire hazard. The Frey team completed the insulation and replacement of 40 ceiling light fixtures during the next week, a very quick turnaround for what had become a hazard concern to us. And we have already noticed our house is warmer and will also save energy during the summer months. It is without hesitation that I can recommend Frey for any remodeling job to change the way you will feel about your house and potentially increase its value. And they have been on budget every time for major remodeling work at our home. “I have been working with a general contractor over the past year on a large renovation project and have been very disappointed with the overall customer service, project management, communication, and cost of the contractor with whom I’ve worked. As a result, I decided to outsource the final finishing work to another contractor, in hopes of finding a better experience. I was looking for a contractor who could meet my expectations in terms of professionalism, quality service, schedule, fair pricing, reliability, and trust. I found that with Mike at Edge Construction. I contacted Mike at Edge Construction after hearing an advertisement on the radio. Mike responded promptly and offered flexible times to review my project and offer a quote (free of charge). My finishing project included installing baseboard and door jamb trim throughout my house, as well as installing several custom closet doors. During the consultation, Mike walked through my property asking questions about what I wanted, what was important to me (cost, material, timelines, etc.), described how the work would be done, and explained options for materials and methods to consider. Knowing that cost was a key consideration for me, Mike offered to unbundle his services to allow me to work directly with his recommended suppliers to keep my price at his cost (the tradeoff being that I took on the responsibilities of coordinating timing, material ordering, material defect management, etc.). Mike was able to offer me a rough estimate at the time of the walk through and followed up within a week with a formal quote. The quoting and contracting process was casual but comprehensive. Mike offered a low pressure buying experience, with information and options to meet my needs. The estimate overall was provided at a very fair price point, with some portions being significantly less expensive than other contractors. Something that differentiated Edge during the quoting process was while reviewing the project with me, Mike talked through the projects I was asking for directly, but also offered insight to additional areas with which he could assist to improve the work of the other contractor. What struck me is that while talking through those additional areas, Mike was very respectful of the other contractor’s work (complimenting some portions of it), as opposed to degrading it to build an “up sale” opportunity, but was straight forward in expressing his recommendation. During that discussion, he suggested that I bring those areas to the contractor’s attention for resolution, as that is what he would do if it “was his house”. Mike was most concerned with helping provide a quality complete end product that I would be happy with, regardless of who was doing the work. I ended up having Edge Construction address those recommended areas (which Mike agreed to do at a very low price), in addition to the original finish work Mike quoted for me. Even though I took on the responsibility of ordering materials and coordinating schedules from suppliers to reduce the overall project cost, Mike did assist me by offering a final review of the material order and even following up with the supplier at one point when the material delivery was delayed. Edge Construction remained flexible with their schedule and accommodated my needs very well during material procurement. Once the materials arrived and Edge Construction began their work, I was impressed. The team was very professional, friendly, cleaned up the job site each day, and even accommodated some small on-the-job requests I made. Mike checked in on the work with his team and remained a point of contact for me, to assist with any questions or needs I had along the way. The job took about 1.5 days longer than planned, but was primarily due to unanticipated complexity and additional time needed to do the job correctly. When those complexities and associated schedule extensions were identified, Mike communicated that to me to ensure my expectations were managed. Despite the slight extension to timeline and unexpected complexity, the project came in on budget. At the closure of the job, Mike walked through the work and addressed any questions I had. Mike was prompt to provide an invoice at project closure and flexible with my payment schedule. I was very satisfied with the quality of the work and project overall. I have since worked with Edge Construction on an additional finishing project (trimming the windows) and plan to work with Edge to trim my kitchen island. Edge has continued to provide good customer service and quality; while remaining responsive, flexible, fair, and well-priced through those other projects. I finally found a contractor I look forward to working with again in the future.”

“We used CDSM to redo our outdated kitchen and open it up to the rest of the house. Scott is pretty creative and can see things I couldn't. He has an amazing ability to re-imagine a space’s potential and be able to communicate those ideas through 3D modeling. I really appreciated how he first got to know how we currently use the space and envision using it after the remodel. It helped that Scott was an avid cook and understood what it was like to move and work in a kitchen. The construction process was smooth and it was huge how he helped us to plan out how we would survive without a full kitchen. We set up a mini situation in our downstairs, ate out at times, and changed what we consumed. It helped that they minimized the amount of time we were without use of our kitchen. Communication was always available (including me texting at 8 or 9 at night) and dealing with just one main person made the process feel so much more controlled. The kitchen they created is absolutely beautiful, way more functional for our needs bright and updated, AND they left our house clean (maybe cleaner than I originally had it ;). We will use again. “Outstanding craftsmanship! Beyond the quality of his work, Earle is an excellent problem-solver who both listens carefully to his client AND figures out what the client isn't able to articulate. In our case, the area in our industrial loft that was being converted from a tiny fiberglass "phone booth" shower to an open, walk-in, custom tiled shower required equal measures of creativity and restraint in solving some tricky design issues. Earle came up with highly creative yet deceptively simple solutions that were exactly what we'd hoped for: streamlined, beautifully detailed, beautifully crafted.”

“We hired Tony to do a complete kitchen remodel, which started in late January 2013 and ended at the end of March. He had worked with us in the past on smaller projects, including installation of a solatube in our living room and a bathroom fan. Chris managed the project at our home, but Tony was available whenever we needed him to answer questions. The quality of the work is excellent and we are very happy with the end result. We worked with Cabinet Masters for the design and Tony's company was in charge of the demolition and installation. We would recommend Tony to anyone thinking of remodeling or repairs for their home. Any issues that we might have had, which were relatively minor, were fixed to our satisfaction. For instance, the grout between our countertop and backsplash was cracking a couple of months after installation and Tony had someone come back and redo the work, no questions asked. With any project, unforeseen issues arise during construction and Tony and Chris were quick to let us know what was going on and how that might impact the cost or timeline for the project. All of the subcontractors that Tony hired were topnotch as well and the we are very pleased with the quality of their work. They communicated well with Tony and, again, if there were any issues, they were resolved quickly and to our satisfaction. In fact, the plumber that Tony used noticed that our downstairs toilet was pretty old and used a lot of water. He suggested replacing it during the remodel to save us a trip charge and helped us get the city of Madison rebate on toilet replacement. Since our kitchen remodel, we hired Tony's company to come back and work on issues that arose last winter with our sunroom. He was one of the contractors that works with Green Madison and Focus on Energy, so we were able to get two rebates back from them for a portion of the cost. The work they did surpassed our expectations in terms of energy efficiency and aesthetics.Tony worked with us on the Green Madison recommendations to figure out what was necessary to prevent ice damming and water leakage and what was more of a comfort issue. We fully intend to use Tony in the future to fix the issues that were more comfort related. We would highly recommend Tony to anyone who has a large remodeling project or for more simple home repairs. You might be able to find people to do the job cheaper, but we doubt you'll find anyone who could the job better and that is easier to work with than Tony and the rest of his staff.”

“Blue Terra did a patio project for us several years ago (it still looks great) and we were actively trying to sell our home and move to a home that didn't have a deck on it. We called Paul to see if he would be willing to do the deck project and he told us he could, but that his business was trying to focus on kitchen remodeling jobs. Well, our house purchase fell through and so we decided to invest in our existing home, and we started with a complete kitchen remodel. We contacted Paul at Blue Terra first given the great job they did on the covered patio project. Paul came over to spec the kitchen project and made sure he understood what we wanted and how we planned to use the space. He came back with a proposal and quote and we were pleasantly surprised at the bid given the the fact that we were getting custom cabinets built from the ground up. We shopped a couple of other kitchen remodeling companies and they couldn't even come close to the bid from Blue Terra. Blue Terra spent the next few weeks building the cabinets and working with the granite company to coordinate the project. They also made sure they knew the size of the appliances we were buying so there would be a perfect fit. The installation itself took about a week. We had the kitchen stripped down to the bare walls before they arrived so they could get started on electrical and plumbing and they were installing the cabinets within a couple of days. Jesse, who built the cabinets, also did the installation. Jesse was very particular and precise and made sure that everything was "perfect". The quality and craftsmanship of the cabinets is very evident. Jesse even used the same boards on cabinet fronts that were next to each other so you could literally see the wood grain running from one front to the next. While that might seem like a minor detail, you won't get that from any just any company. Once the cabinets were in place the granite company came to get exact measurements so they could cut our countertops, which took a couple of weeks. While that may have been troublesome for some to have a kitchen without countertops, it wasn't an issue for us as the way Blue Terra builds their cabinets, we literally had very durable and usable "tops" so we had workspace until the granite showed up. We've received so many compliments about the kitchen and how it looks. We've had it now for two years and we enjoy it even more. I've recommended Paul and Blue Terra to several people and wouldn't hesitate to use them again.
