Bull Run Kitchen and Bath
Washington D.C., DC Sustainable Design Professionals
December 11, 2014
“My wife and I contacted several kitchen remodelers in the local area and found Bull Run Kitchen and Bath to be both the most responsive and the most affordable. Our estimator/designer, Tracy, was very courteous and eager to ensure that we got things correct up-front so there would be no surprises. It took my wife and I a few weeks to settle on a design and during that time we made several changes and Tracy was able to react both efficiently and rapidly, always letting us know if we were straying beyond our budget. We finally signed the contract on a Friday and the work began on the following Monday. The foreman, Hakan, who supervised all work accomplished was friendly and incredibly professional. I was particularly impressed with his attention to detail. He responded to our every request and worked around our schedule with absolutely no resultant issues. He made sure that every detail was accomplished properly and followed-up to ensure that even the smallest detail was completed satisfactorily. We've had a lot of major work done over the years and this was one of the largest projects we have attempted; it is also the most successful. A short word about the workmen who did the actual demolition, installation, and follow-up. They were both efficient and highly capable and their response to our many requests was always friendly and helpful. When we asked for the impossible they would explain why the request couldn't work and then frequently showed us other ways to accomplish what we wanted. I'm certain that they saved us many long-term headaches. The BOTTOM LINE is we are extremely pleased with our new kitchen and can't wait to show it off at Thanksgiving. Our thanks to Tracy, Hakan, and the work crew for a job extremely well done!”
Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes

“My wife and I selected Michael Nash from among five separate bids for a considerable renovation and expansion of our home. Michael Nash was the second lowest bidder, but our confidence in Sonny Nazemin’s eye for design and considerable number of award-winning designs was crucial in our initial selection. We have a grand house in Reston built in the late 1960s. It has solid bones but really needed a whole house renovation. We also needed more space to house our extended family. Our project consisted of a new two-car garage, siding, roofing and a totally new floor consisting of a master suite and bathroom. From the start of the project I was impressed with the one price upfront to complete the project. Sonny navigated our plans through the difficult process of approval by our local Design Review Board. His personal attention and negotiation with the board led to the rapid approval of our project. Follow on work for our front porch and driveway was reasonably priced. When we requested a re-design of the ceilings for the master suite, Sonny spared no expense hiring several architects to arrive at the design we desired. His vision throughout the project ensured its success. ******************* EXTRA FOLLOW-ON WORK COMPLETED jANUARY 25, 2014 *********************** We gave Michael Nash extra follow-on work with our kitchen because we were so pleased with how our Master Suite and other work turned out. We told Sonny that we had a limited budget but wanted to get as much of the kitchen done as possible. He suggested that we keep our old cabinets and redo everything else. Sonny has a great eye for design and suggested that we take out some cabinets to open up the room. He helped us with color choices that made the kitchen modern and bright. They replaced the oven, the hood, the induction cooktop, the counter, the floor, the sink, repaired and replaced doors, painted the room and put in a new lighting system with ten canned lights. Michael Nash kept to a timetable except for the hood at the end, which was really unavoidable. We are thrilled with our new kitchen and recommend Michael Nash to our neighbors and friends.”

“I would highly reccomend Cathy Cherry. I had the pleasure of working with her on a house that she designed for Baldwin Homes for the Maryland Green Show Home. The area that I designed and furnished was the Kitchen, Eat-in Area and Great Room. I love how she designed the areas to be an open floor plan. I find that homeowners in this area of Maryland like open floor plans because it is a more interactive but, casual way of life. When I heard that Cathy was designing the home and wanted it to be a "tidal" home I knew that her style would fit hand in glove with my "Chesapeake Cozy" style. The architectural detail on the home was top notch. In my area, I particularly loved the strong columns. I repeated the detail in my custom built-ins flanking the fireplace. It was easy to plan the interior design around Cathy's classic taste! Gina Fitzsimmons, ASID”

“My husband and I hired Virginia Kitchen and Bath for our kitchen remodeling project after a long search for a reliable company. We did not hesitate to go with them after going over the details. We started off by calling them to get an estimate. Their schedule was pretty busy (which is a good thing!) but managed to find us a perfect date and time. The designer that came out was very knowledgeable and nice. He was kind enough to propose his ideas while encouraging us with our own. He took some measurements and left. We received our estimate via email couple days after the initial meeting with a kind invitation to go to their showroom for selection making. The proposal seemed to fit our plan so we went by with great excitement. They have a very nice designed showroom with a wide range of tiles, granite, cabinets and etc. to choose from. They were very professional. They took a note of every selection we made. We finally sat down to go over our design and the contract. We didn't hesitate to sign and to give deposit. We were given a project start date not too far from signing of the contract. The date of the construction, the crew and the project manager came at the time they promised. Project manager went over the changes with everyone. This made us feel extremely happy and comfortable! The crew started off by covering areas in the house for protection. They were very respectful of our property and belongings. They came and left at the same time every day. Project manager constantly stopped by whenever he could to check the progress on the site. We were able to contact our designer whenever we wanted to during their operating business hours. Construction debris was picked up everyday as well. Project went pretty smooth overall and they were able to finish a day before they told us. They work on schedule and are very professional. We are extremely satisfied with the total outcome. Everything turned out to be much better than what we had expected. It was worth to spend every penny (even my husband thinks so). We gladly recommened VKB and Kemal (our designer) to everyone. Our family and friends love our new kitchen. We will definitely be in touch with Virginia Kitchen and Bath for any upcoming projects. Thank you VKB”

“It has been a pleasure working with the Owings companies over the past several years. They are a family owned contracting company with a heart of gold.. I believe the quality of there work and there desire for complete customer satisifaction to be second to none. As a professional interior designer I have had the pleasure of working with them on many home renovation projects from kitchens, to bath room, to additions and custom builds. They share the same goal of making a clients project dreams a reality at any scale or budget. They provide me with all the tools myself and the client needs to make selections and keep each job moving smoothly from concept to completion. I would absolutely recommend The Owings Companies to any one who is considering a construction project at any scale. In my opinion they are one of, if not the best in the business. “I first met Gina when she was the designer for a friend's home and I loved what she did for them. I hired her to redo the bathrooms in my home in Maryland and that led to the whole house. You can tell that she loves what she does by the attention she pays to each detail of the project. Later I hired her to help me redo my house in Texas. I was a little worried with the house being in Texas but once again she did a great job capturing exactly what I wanted and paying attention to all details of the project. No matter where I live Gina is the one I will go to whenever I have a design project. Gina is a true professional and a joy to work with. Thru our working together we became very good friends and I have been working for her part time in the design studio and in the retail store "Details of Design" for the last eight years. Even though I live in Texas now I still go back to Annapolis occasionally to work for her.”

“After renovating a small townhouse with Andreas and having lived there for couple years with great joy, an opportunity arose to purchase the next door unit which was larger and had a balcony with Washington monument views, but at about the same time I was stationed to Seoul, Korea for work. So we started a long distance renovation with Andreas. Knowing how picky I was and how involved I wanted to stay with the project, he and Juan sent me weekly updates with pictures and we would be on email almost daily. The design part was a breeze. I already knew and admired his style from the first renovation. Clean, modern lines that open up space, eliminate visual clutter and unify the space in such a way that made me feel special to wake up in such a place. But now having lived in Asia I found myself drawn to the understated zen aesthetics there. So Andreaas came to visit me in Seoul and I could show him elements of that style that I loved, But more than just showing them I wanted him to feel the sense of zen that I was experiencing there. We got so tuned in to this mindset that one night our emails crossed suggesting the same stone surround for the fireplace :-). The result is Zen Modern 2. A place that makes me feel happy just by being there. It is my sanctuary. I know a lot of people would think it crazy to do a gut renovation from overseas. Well this was even better for me b/c I only got to see the wonderful product rather than dealing with the stress of a renovation. Andreas and Juan, I am very grateful for what you did. l love my beautiful place. It improved my life quality in a way I couldn't imagine.”

“Sarah was great to work with. I interviewed several architects before deciding to go with her company. She was very flexible and responsive to work with. She listened to our vision and came up with a great design that met all of our needs. She was also able to suggest the builder that we eventually chose and loved working with them as well. It was always a pleasure and never a chore to sit down with her during the design and revision process. I would highly recommend working with Moser Architects.”

“Tom Flach helped us design our dream retirement home. We have a piece of land on a lake and his design incorporated water views into every room in the house. The house has a unique design based on water views and building adjacent to a new septic field that had to be installed. The house took several iterations before it came together and once it did, Tom captured the essence of what we wanted. He made several recommendations on how to improve room layouts and helped guide us through the planning process without inserting too many of his own views into the project. He did what we hired him to do and helped guide us in areas that we needed help. I would highly recommend Tom and his firm for any future projects that we might do.”
Bennett Frank McCarthy Architects, Inc.

August 21, 2013
“I have been working with Bennett Frank McCarthy Architects since April of this year on my home renovation in Mahwah NJ and I can say first hand that I couldnt be happier with what Shawn and the team there have brought to the table. I initially found BFM Architects on Houzz from their Modernized Split Foyer project. I had spoken to several architects both locally here in NY & NJ as well as some west coast firms and none of them gave me the level of comfort and different approach to a renovation that Shawn Buehler and BFM gave me. From minute one my project was never about how to get me to spend more money upping my budget in order to increase fees rather it was finding out ecactly what i needed from my house and figuring out ways in which we could make minimal changes and get maximum impact from them. The design process was smooth and the constant communication Shawn provided was key throughout the process. From design to construction documents and throughout the permit processing and construction observation they have been top notch making my life much easier. Currently the demo on my house is finished and we are in the framing process but once its srtats to come back together i will post pictures and more feedback... but if you are loooking for an architect to help you with a new home or a renovation i wouldnt hesitate to call Shawn and BFM.”
