Pittsburgh native Maximilian J. Mavrovic AIA founded the firm Mavrovic Architects PC in 1993. With his strong motivation, a young support staff, and limitless opportunities in the foreseeable future, he launched a design studio in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh. During his professional career, after graduating from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1983, Max served as vice-president at two of the largest architectural firms in Pittsburgh where he was responsible for client relations, staff supervision, project design, and construction budgets. The small boutique-size office ensures personal service for you and project continuity from start to finish. The needs of each client and every project are responded to personally by professional staff members through in-depth investigation and careful research. Design solutions are developed that exceed client objectives, meet completion schedules, fall within construction budgets, and satisfy the aesthetic goals of staff creatives. Client participation, input, and ideas are encouraged and considered throughout all steps of the design process. For each project, interviews are conducted with stakeholders to establish design criteria and project objectives. First-hand experience with new construction and renovation projects is a prerequisite for employment. For new buildings, a site analysis is conducted considering ecological impacts on the building design and impact of the building on the nearby environment. For building renovations and additions, existing conditions are carefully documented and building systems are analyzed for suitability with the future plan. Current safety, building, energy, and accessibility codes and zoning regulations are researched for all projects. After the foundation investigations are made and documented, then a concise program document is developed as the roadmap that will define the desired project goals and outcomes. A project budget is established based on the approved program, and is rigorously followed for the duration of the project. A project schedule timeline is developed with input from the client and construction professionals. Our decades of project experience have shown that this process virtually eliminates unanticipated results and provides the necessary resources to complete projects on time and on budget.

Drew Weinheimer, RA is an award-winning registered architect from Pittsburgh, PA. He has projects successfully built in the United States and abroad totaling more than $200M, and much more under construction. With project experiences varying greatly in program, scale, and construction types, Drew’s experience allows him draw on a broad design lexicon for unique project solutions. From hospitals, to commercial fit-outs, to schools, laboratories, single family homes, and even the tallest residential tower in the world, Drew has been a proven leader in the design process. Additionally, Drew has become a regional expert in emerging design technology, notably Building Information Modeling (BIM). He has presented and lectured on various aspects of the technology in the Pittsburgh area. Drew has been an early adopter of new design technologies that improve the design process, including 3D printing and digital fabrication, augmented reality, and visual programming. By exploiting new technology, Drew illuminates the design process for all stakeholders. By allowing more in-depth views of the design as it progresses, better feedback is elicited and incorporated from owners and stakeholders. Around this robust and explorative process, Hemisphere Architecture LLC was born. The design philosophy of Hemisphere is balance. The archetypal characters of the right brain as artistic, and the left brain as analytical serves as a metaphor for the design process and its stakeholders, whether they are owners, family, developers, contractors, or engineers. While it is not sufficient for each department to be equally represented, it is paramount that they work together. Design requires portions of each that are mediated by the craft of the architect. Hemisphere is about dreaming big and taking risks, while meeting or exceeding project objectives. It’s about exploring unconventional ideas, while monitoring the pulse of cost, schedule and logistics. The design process is iterative, adaptive, and welcoming of new challenges. A successful project is the result of an in-depth design process that satisfies the concerns of all stakeholders with an outcome that is predictable. When voices are heard, ideas are integrated, and project goals are met, balance is achieved.
