“We’ve always loved our home’s terrific views. Last fall we decided to replace 7 leaky double-hung 12 over 12 windows. Having purchased a Marvin casement window and large patio door in 2007, we focused on that brand and equivalent Andersen models. After visiting 2 showrooms and conferring by phone with another supplier, we expanded the project to replace all of the old windows and a kitchen slider. This let us go with a less-busy style (2 over 2) to bring even more light inside and better play up the vistas outside. We opted for Marvin, liking its features and fit and finish best, and realized that our supplier had to be able to deliver everything already stained to match existing woodwork. (This was critical because the house has a lot of wood, and as we found in 2007, staining just one window is a daunting job for the uninitiated. There was no way we could handle that much staining ourselves, and finding a painter to take it on would be a challenge too.)
