Penthouse on Church Street

The couple were repeat clients of FORMA. They decided to sell their two story townhouse in Dupont Circle for this single-level Penthouse flat with a fantastic mature garden facing the National Cathedral and Washington’s cityscape, located right on Church Street, in the buzzing Logan Circle neighborhood. Their main request, other than updating the look and feel of the faux-industrial space, was for finding ways to maximize storage, as the apartment had minimal storage, exposed ceilings and ducts, and windows everywhere. A clever solution easily turns the study into a guest bedroom, while the expanded kitchen doubled in capacity. The end result turned this under-achiever of an apartment into a modern refuge in the clouds, that they enjoy calling home.

Client comments: "We have had wonderful experiences working with Forma Design. Our most recent project was a total renovation of a Logan Circle condominium. Our wish was to add as much storage space as possible while maintaining an open contemporary feel. Andreas and Forma accomplished both. We love our new home. They are talented and creative and we would not hesitate to use them again."

The guest room/Study is super compact, and features a murphy-bed that easily comes down over the sofa to accommodate guests. Cabinetry on the side provides ample clothes storage for guests. Otherwise the room is used as the shared study by the two owners. A private balcony off to the side allows for drinks alfresco during work breaks. Photography: Geoffrey Hodgdon
