Door County BarnHouse
Converted from “builder” to “architecture”, the Door County BarnHouse underwent a transformation taking a cue from the local farmhouse aesthetic. Alchemy renovated the exterior walls to an insulative R-30 assembly and replaced the vinyl exterior with durable galvalume and stained cedar corncrib siding, increasing efficiency and expressing an honest use of materials. An expressive three-season porch wraps the southern face of the home extending into the landscape as a land-locked dock. The interior features a new stair sheathed in diamond-plate steel. Custom steel details laser cut with a graphic representation of birch bark also hang as kitchen shelves and create the fireplace surround. Within the open living space, an intimate dining booth– complete with a custom designed canopy and a bright red venetian plaster finish personally finished by the project architect– creates a distinctive accent within the home.
