McLean Transitional

FORMA was retained to re-design this two bedroom two-and-a-half bath apartment in McLean by a couple who was selling their large single-family home in the area and downsizing to simplify and enjoy life as empty nesters. The layout of the apartment was opened up as much as the existing structural elements would allow, and we infused a touch of modernism in an otherwise more traditional environment, both in layout and due to the presence of some of the clients' existing furniture and artwork. In the end the space is fresh and bright, functional, comfortable, and retains the elements the clients liked in their previous home, while infusing modern touches in the re-design of the kitchen and bathrooms, as well as in the custom cabinetry throughout, lighting, finishes and some of the new furniture they acquired.

Client comments: "The prospect of moving from a much larger house to a 2,000 sq. ft. condominium was daunting.
We bought our condo because of its relatives spaciousness, excellent location and the wonderful views of the trees and shrubbery directly underneath the windows. But our new home had a rather tired look inside and the configuration of rooms was too confining and fussy. So we decided to completely remodel, consonant with our well-defined functional and aesthetic preferences.
After a thorough search among architectural firms, we chose Forma Design because of the elegance and modern presentation of the finalized projects of this firm.
Andreas Charalambous, the leading architect of Forma Design, had a number of remarkably inventive ideas for the design of our home, creating light, fluidity and functionality. His firm worked very well managing the contractors and subcontractors, making sure that the construction was faithful to the design.
While the design of our home is modern, we had some favorite paintings, sculptures and furniture which we needed to be incorporated. We are really satisfied with the final subtle blendof modernity and a touch of traditionalism.
Working with Andreas was a very interesting and learning experience. He is a brilliant and very determined architect who can be a great asset in any home design project."
